The rise of Vaibhav Suryavanshi continues to leave the cricketing world stunned. The teenage sensation has become one of the biggest talking points of IPL 2026 after producing yet another explosive knock for the Rajasthan Royals (RR), this time hammering 93 runs off just 38 deliveries against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).

His breathtaking six-hitting ability has now drawn reactions from some of the biggest names in world cricket, including England stars Jos Buttler and Stuart Broad.

Jos Buttler amazed by Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s six-hitting numbers

Buttler admitted that even some of the underlying numbers behind Suryavanshi’s batting have left him stunned. Buttler further added that the 15-year-old could realistically surpass Gayle’s tally if Rajasthan Royals manage to stay alive in the tournament.

“Balls per boundary in the powerplay is two. So every other ball in the powerplay, he hits a four or a six, which is just crazy. Chris Gayle, best T20 player to ever play the game, I think, especially in terms of six-hitting, is the record with 59. So I think if Rajasthan get through to the playoffs, then Vaibhav will definitely go past that record,” Buttler said on the For the Love of Cricket podcast.

Broad, meanwhile, joked that every time the teenager starts batting, cricket fans in his WhatsApp group immediately begin discussing another outrageous innings from the 15-year-old.

Suryavanshi continues dream IPL campaign

Suryavanshi’s latest assault came during Rajasthan’s chase of a daunting 221-run target against Lucknow. The opener raced to a stunning 23-ball half-century before completely dismantling the LSG bowling attack with a spectacular display of clean hitting. He smashed 10 sixes and seven boundaries during his 38-ball 93, single-handedly shifting the momentum of the chase before eventually falling to Mohsin Khan.

For years, Chris Gayle’s six-hitting peak in the IPL has been viewed as untouchable. The former Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) superstar smashed 59 sixes during his unforgettable 2012 campaign, setting a benchmark many believed would never be challenged. However, Buttler believes Suryavanshi now has a realistic opportunity to surpass the record, especially if Rajasthan manage to qualify for the playoffs and extend their season.

At just 15 years of age, Suryavanshi is no longer being discussed merely as a promising youngster. He is already beginning to force comparisons with some of the greatest power-hitters the T20 format has ever seen.
