Iyer dealing with pressure-filled IPL 2026 campaign
While the internet enjoys the viral interaction, Iyer remains fully focused on an important phase of IPL 2026 with Punjab Kings (PBKS). The franchise’s playoff hopes are hanging by a thread after a dramatic dip in form during the second half of the season. PBKS had once looked like genuine title contenders and even topped the points table earlier in the campaign. However, a string of poor results has pushed them down to fifth place with 13 points from 13 matches.
Their upcoming clash against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) has now turned into a virtual knockout fixture. A defeat would officially end Punjab’s hopes of qualifying for the playoffs but despite the team’s struggles, Iyer has continued to contribute consistently with the bat. The right-hander has scored 397 runs in 12 innings at an average above 44 while maintaining a strike rate of over 160 this season.
Once the IPL concludes, Iyer will quickly switch focus to international cricket. The Indian batter has already been named as vice-captain for India’s upcoming ODI series against Afghanistan national cricket team. The three-match ODI series is scheduled to begin in Dharamsala on June 14, with Iyer expected to play a key leadership role alongside the senior core of the Indian side.
