In the high-stakes theatre of the Indian Premier League (IPL), individual stardom and team dynamics often collide in unexpected ways. The ongoing IPL 2026 season has thrown a massive curveball for the Rajasthan Royals (RR), sparking intense debates across the cricketing community. As franchises fight for the ultimate crown, former Indian batter and six-time IPL champion Ambati Rayudu has made a bold, headline-grabbing statement. Rayudu has explicitly advised explosive left-handed opener Yashasvi Jaiswal to part ways with the Rajasthan Royals and switch franchises. According to the veteran, Jaiswal needs to find a separate home where he can shine independently, away from the blinding light of RR’s newest sensation.

Ambati Rayudu backs franchise switch for Yashasvi Jaiswal

Rayudu’s shocking advice stems from the meteoric rise of Rajasthan’s 15-year-old batting prodigy, Vaibhav Suryavanshi. The wonderkid turned the tournament on its head during the IPL 2026 Eliminator against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), tearing their bowling attack to shreds with a jaw-dropping 97 runs off just 27 deliveries, a blistering knock powered by 12 massive sixes. Rayudu strongly feels that Jaiswal, an established international star, is being heavily overshadowed by the youngster’s destructive exploits.

Speaking directly to ESPNcricinfo, Rayudu highlighted that Jaiswal possesses match-winning capabilities on his own and should not spend his prime competing with his opening partner. “He needs to change his team because he cannot just bat with the guy and be overshadowed every single time because he’s a star in his own right. If he goes to another team, he will win games on his own,” Rayudu explained.

The former Chennai Super Kings star elaborated that an alpha-batter like Suryavanshi requires a senior partner who is secure enough to simply watch the carnage unfold rather than trying to match it stroke for stroke.

And he needs that space and a platform because this guy will keep continuing to overshadow people. And it has to be a senior partner, along with him, who can deal with it. Be happy for him. Be happy for what is happening and not contest, not be in a contest with your non-striker or your striker. You can’t, you can’t compete with him,” he added.

When analyzing potential landing spots for the young Indian opener, a move to the Mumbai Indians (MI) emerged as a highly logical transition. Jaiswal represents Mumbai in domestic first-class cricket, making the Wankhede Stadium familiar territory. Evaluating this possibility, Rayudu concluded, “That can be a nice fit. That’s a great team to play for, for Jaiswal, MI.”

Jaiswal’s dismal run in IPL 2026

Compounding Rayudu’s concerns is Jaiswal’s noticeably quiet run in the current tournament. While his overall IPL track record remains highly formidable, his graph has taken a visible dip in the 2026 season, especially when contrasted with his explosive opening partner. Across 15 matches this year, Jaiswal has compiled 426 runs at an average of 32.76. While a strike rate of 153.23 is respectable by modern T20 standards, it lacks the sheer, unstoppable dominance he displayed in previous editions.

The data reveals that Jaiswal has struggled to convert his starts into those massive, match-winning centuries that fans are accustomed to seeing, failing to hit a single ton in IPL 2026. As the mega-auction cycle approaches, Rayudu’s strategic advice might just give Jaiswal something serious to think about if he wants to fully reclaim his mantle as the undisputed headline act.
