Pakistan‘s campaign in the ODI World Cup 2023 began on a high note with impressive victories against the Netherlands and Sri Lanka. However, their fortunes took a sharp downturn as they faced consecutive defeats against India, Australia and Afghanistan. Now, Babar Azam‘s team finds themselves in a must-win situation, with their semifinal hopes hanging by a thread.

Shadab Khan’s unyielding confidence in Pakistan’s turnaround

Nevertheless, Pakistan’s vice-captain, Shadab Khan, remained resolute in his belief that the team miraculously can turn their World Cup journey around. Despite the disappointing performances, Shadab insisted that Pakistan possesses the potential to stage a rem🐻arkable comeback, even when their backs are against the wall.

We have under-performed in all three departments – batting, bowling and fielding. We have not played good cricket but have bounced back from such situations,” Shadab said ꧙during the pre-match press conferenc🌄e

If you have belief, miracles happen. We have not played like we were playing before the World Cup but from tomorrow we have to start a winning streak. When you are in a do-or-die position then I think the pressure is less because you have nothing to lose,” the 25-year-old added.

Shadab responds to critics with confidence

Critics have been quick to voiced their concerns about Pakistan’s World Cup prospects, but Shadab Khan is undeterred. He asserted that Pakistan will not be discouraged by the setbacks and is determined to push forward.

See, this is individual and you should accept reality if you are not able to perform, then you should be honest with yourself. Because you know best about yourself – maybe no one else knows about me. So, I think you should analyze yourself. You should have an honest opinion about yourself. Talk to yourself,” the Sargodha-born cricketer stated.

“Criticizing is the easiest thing and anyone can do it – that should make no difference. I have a simple theory that whatever talent God has given if you give it 100% in the ground, that’s it. Because the result is not in our hands. What is written for us, has to happen. So, do what is in your hands, the rest is in God’s hands,” Shadab concluded.

Tough road ahead for Pakistan

With four crucial group games left to play, Pakistan‘s path to the semifinals is a challenging one, and they cannot afford any further slip-ups. The Men In Green aims to redeem themselves in their upcoming fixture against South Africa, scheduled for Friday, October 27, at the MA Chidambaram Stadium▨ in Ch﷽ennai.
