Zimbabwe pulled off a thrilling two-wicket victory over Pakistan in the third and final T20I at Queens Sports Club, denying the visitors a series clean sweep. Chasing 133, Zimbabwe reached the target with just one ball to spare, thanks to a composed knock by opening batter Brian Bennett.

Zimbabwe restricts Pakistan to 132

Electing to bat first, Pakistan posted 132/7 in their 20 overs. The innings struggled to gain momentum as Zimbabwe’s bowlers kept the batters in check. Skipper Agha Salman top-scored with 32 off 32 balls, while Tayyab Tahir (21 off 14) and Arafat Minhas (22 off 26) chipped in with useful contributions. Zimbabwe’s bowlers shared the spoils, with Blessing Muzarabani (2/25) being the standout performer.

Zimbabwe reaches the finish line after middle-order collapse

Zimbabwe’s reply started briskly with Tadiwanashe Marumani smashing 15 off 6 balls, but regular wickets kept the hosts under pressure. Brian Bennett anchored the chase with a mature 43 off 35 balls. The home team did falter in the middle, but reached the finish line with two wickets in hand and a ball remaining.

Abbas Afridi was the pick of Pakistan’s bowlers, claiming 3/24, while Jahandad Khan picked up two wickets.

“We wanted to win the series but unfortunately we couldn’t. The desire to beat Pakistan was there and finishing with a win is incredibly satisfying. We had a tough tour but we backed the youngsters and for them to win it today was heartwarming to see. We did not want to dwell on the past, had we done so, we couldn’t have won today. We wanted to get that first loss out of the system, we had another bad game and we wanted to get that out of the system too. Today I thought the bowling attack did really well to restrict them to 132,” said the winning captain, Sikandar ??Raza, in post-ma?tch presentation.

Despite the loss, Pakistan won the three-match series 2-1, having dominated the first two games with commanding performances. In the opener, Pakistan secured a 57-run victory, followed by a ten-wicket demolition in the second T20I. However, Zimbabwe’s spirited effort in the final match earned them a well-deserved consolation win.

Pakistan kicked off their T20I series against Zimbabwe with a resounding 57-run victory in Bulawayo. Spearheaded by the exceptional spells of Haris Rauf and Sufiyan Muqeem, the visitors? bowled out Zimbabwe for just 108 runs, securing a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. Muqeem, with his career-best figures of 3/20?, stood out, while Rauf’s precision ensured timely breakthroughs.

A balanced start for Pakistan after winning the toss

Pakistan opted to bat first with the intent of setting a formidable target. However, the innings got off to a shaky start as opener Omair Yousuf fell early, managing 16 off 13 deliveries before being undone by a sharp delivery from Richard Ngarava. Despite the early setback, Saim Ayub and Usman Khan brought stability to the innings with a 39-run partnership for the second wicket. Ayub sh?owcased glimpses of his flair with a few elegant strokes but fell for 21, mistiming a pull shot that landed safely in the hands of the long-off fielder, leaving Pakistan in a rebuilding phase.

Tayyab Tahir’s game-changing innings

Tayyab Tahir emerged as the star of Pakistan’s batting effort with a comp??osed yet aggressive knock of 39* off 25 balls. Walking in at a precarious moment, Tahir counterattacked with fl??air, blending timing and power. His ability to find gaps and clear the fielders underlined his batting prowess.

Tahir’s partnership with Irfan Khan was pivotal in turning the innings around. The duo added 65 runs for the fifth wicket, with Tahir anchoring the stand while maintaining a brisk scoring rate. His shot selection, particularly his ability to dispatch anything loose, proved crucial in Pakistan reaching a competitive total. Irfan Khan played a perfect supporting role alongside Tahir, scoring a quickfire 27 off just 15 balls. His aggressive stroke play not only complemented Tahir but also ensured Pakistan finished the innings on a strong note. Irfan’s contribution, though overshadowed by Tahir, played a vital role in t??he final surge of runs.

Zimbabwe’s bright start fades quickly: Sufiyan Muqeem and Haris Rauf shine

Zimbabwe began their chase with promise, despite losing Brian Bennett early. A solid 59-run partnership between Tadiwanashe Marumani and Sikandar Raza kept the hosts in contention. Marumani, in particular, looked comfortable against the pacers and was instrumental in steadying the innings. However, a poor call for a second run led to Marumani’s run-out, opening the floodgates for a Zimbabwean collapse. Following his departure, Zimbabwe lost wickets in a flurry, with no batter able to withstand Pakistan’s disciplined bowling.

Muqeem’s left-arm spin was a revelation on the slow surface. His variations, particularly the googly, left Zimbabwe’s middle and lower order clueless. Rauf, with his pace and accuracy, continued to strike at crucial junctures, dismissing key batters like Ryan Burl cheaply Zimbabwe captain Raza stood tall amidst the ruins, scoring a valiant 39 off 28 balls. However, his dismissal – an ill-timed cut shot caught brilliantly at backward point – sealed Zimbabwe’s fate.

Following their 2-1 victory in the ODI series, Pakistan are gearing up to face hosts Zimbabwe in a three-match T20I series, beginning on December 1st at the Que??ens Sports Club in Bulawayo. The team will look to build on their strong form and further assert their dominance over Zimbab??we, having won eight of their last ten T20I encounters.

The Queens Sports Club has not been a favourable ??venue for Zimbabwe, as they lost their most recent T20I match there. Pakis?tan, with a balanced squad and a mix of experienced and young players, aims to exploit this advantage.

Here is Pakistan’s best starting XI for the T20I series against Zimbabwe:

1. Salman Ali Agha (captain)

In the absence of Mohammad Rizwan, Salman Ali Agha will lead Pakistan, bringing his experience and calm demeanour to the table. Additionally, his tactical acumen will play a key role in guiding the relatively young squad.

Tahir’s role will be to stabilize the innings if early wickets fall. With his ability to absorb pressure and play long innings, he provides balance to the lineup. His adaptability allows him to play both attacking and defensive roles depending on the match situation.

Pakistan concluded their ODI series against Zimbabwe with a commanding 99-run victory in the third match at the Queens Sports Club, claiming the series 2-1. A stellar batting performance, led by Kamran Ghulam‘s brilliant century, and an effective bowling display ensured Pakistan’s dominance in the decider.

Pakistan sets a challenging total against Zimbabwe

Winning the toss, Pakistan elected to bat and posted an imposing total of 303/6 in their 50 overs. The innings revolved around Kamran’s 103 off 99 balls, featuring 10 fours and 4 sixes. He anchored the innings after steady starts from the openers, Saim Ayub (31) and Abdullah Shafique (50).

Wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan contributed a vital 37 runs, while middle-order batters Agha Salman (30 off 26) and Tayyab Tahir (29 off 16) added quick runs towards the end. Zimbabwe’s bowlers struggled for breakthroughs, with only Sikandar Raza and Richard Ngarava picking two wickets each, and they too conceded 47 and 55 runs respectively.

Zimbabwe batters falters under pressure

Chasing 304 for victory, Zimbabwe’s innings never gained momentum as they were bowled out for 204 in 40.1 overs. Captai??n Craig Ervine led from the front with a gritty 51 off 63 balls, but he lacked support from the top order.

The middle order showed brief resistance, with Brian Bennett scoring a brisk 37 ??off 27 balls and Sean Williams chipping in with 24, but consistent wickets derailed their chase. Lower-order contributions from Richard Ngarava (17) and Clive Madande (20) were not enough to rescue Zimbabwe.

Pakistan’s bowlers delivered a disciplined performance, with six bowlers sharing the wickets. Aamer Jamal (5-0-19-2) and Haris Rauf (7.1-0-34-2) impressed with their pace and control, while spinners Abrar Ahmed (9-0-45-2) and part-timer Saim Ayub (4-0-29-2) contributed crucial breakthroughs. All-rounder Ghulam capped his memorable day with the ball, taking 1 for 7 in two overs.

Player of the Match

Kamran Ghulam’s all-round heroics earned him the Player of the Match award, while Pakistan’s ability to recover from early setbacks and execute their plans underlined their depth and resilience. Zimbabwe, despite showing flashes of brilliance, struggled with consistency, particularly in their batting department.

Both teams now turn their attention to the T20I series, with the first match scheduled for Sunday, December 1, at t??he sam?e venue.
