The Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI) in India on Saturday announced the venues and dates for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 final and pl??ayoff mat?ches.

The first Qualifier and the Eliminator will take place at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on May 24 and 26, respectively. Meanwhile, the second Qualifier will be played on May 27 and the final on May 2??9, both at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. All matches will mark the full spectator attendance.

“As far as the men’s IPL knock-out stage matches are concerned, it would be held in Kolkata and Ahmedabad, with hundred percent attendance allowed for the matches to be played after the league staged finishes on May 22,” BCCI President Sourav Ganguly said after the apex council meeting on Saturday.

During the meeting, it was also decided that the three-team Women’s T20 Challenge, involving Trailblazers, Supernovas and Velocity, will be held in Lucknow from May 24-28.

Talking about IPL, the fifth season of the tournament has so far witnessed 35 matches, with newly-added Gujarat Titans (GT) leading the standings with 12 points from seven games while five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) are yet to open their account in the points table. After facing a 3-wicket defeat against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Thursday, they created an embarrassing record of losing the first seven matches in an IP?L season.

The third season of Women’s T20 Challenge is all ready to get down to the business from Wednesday (November 04) in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The three teams – Supernovas, Velocity and Trailblazers – are set to play three matches between November 4 and 9 in Sharjah, with the final scheduled on November 9 at the same venue.

In the first game, defending champions Supernovas will face the challenge of Velocity. Like the eight IPL franchises, the women’s contingent also underwent a mandatory six-day quarantine at the team hotel.

This year, fans would, however, be missing the presence of star Australian and New Zealand players. The reason behind it is that this year’s Women’s T20 Challenge is clashing with the ongoing Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) 2020 in Australia.

Some top most Australia women cricketers like Ellyse Perry, Meg Lanning, Beth Mooney and Alyssa Healy will be missing the T20 Challenge 2020.

Apart from the Aussies, New Zealand all-rounder Suzie Bates, Amelia Kerr, West Indies’ Hayley Matthews and England’s Natalie Sciver will also be absent as the?y are currently plying their trade in the WBBL 2020.

12 foreign players will be playing in T20 Challenge

A total of 12 foreign players will be playing in the 200 Women’s T20 Challenge. Supernovas have South Africa’s Ayabonga Khaka, Sri Lankan women’s team captain Chamari Atapattu and her countrywoman Shashikala Siriwardene. Supernovas also have West Indies’ star, Shakera Selman.

Trailblazers, on the other hand, will have the No. 1 bowler in women’s T20 cricket, England’s Sophie Ecclestone. They also have explosive Caribbean batter Deandra Dottin and Bangladesh off-spinner Salma Khatun. Thailand’s Natthakan Chatham, who impressed everyone with her performance in the Women’s T20 World Cup held earlier this year, is a part of Tr?ailblazers?.

Velocity have England opening batter Danielle Wyatt and South African all-rounder Suné Luus. They even have New Zealand off-spinner Leigh Kasperek and Bangladesh seamer, Jahanara Alam, in the squad.

Taking one step ahead towards the Women’s IPL, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to add a new team to the Women’s T20 exhibition matches it has been conducting over the last two IPL seasons.

In 2018, two teams – Supernovas and Trailblazers – competed in a one-off exhibition match, which finished in a last-ball thriller. Last year, a third-team – Velocity – was added with four matches hosted in Jaipur, which ran parallel to the main IPL playoffs.

For the 2020 edition, the fourth team is yet to be named. But there will be in ??t?otal seven matches, including the final, which will be played once again around the IPL playoffs.

The IPL Governing Council has also decided to let an off-field ma??tch official supervise no-balls. The move is bound to be welcomed by the players considering the errors by on-field umpires over the years that have left cricket f??ans, experts and players fuming.

Last IPL, Virat Kohli, leading the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in a crucial match against the Mumbai Indians, called the umpiring standards “ridiculous” and club standard. Incidentally, the no-ball delivered by Lasith Malinga went unnoticed by S Ravi, one of the on-field umpires who has now been removed from the ICC’s Elite Panel.

Trailblazers withstood the onslaught of hard-hitting Harmanpreet Kaur to pull-off a last ball thriller against Supernovas in the opening game of the Women’s T20 Challenge played at Sawai Mansingh in Jaipur on Monday.

Needing 19 off the final over, Sup??ernovas skipper Harmanpreet (46 not out off 34) almost got her team over the line with some sensational hitting but veteran pacer Jhulan Goswami held her nerves after being smashed for four consecutive boundaries.

In response to Trailblazers’ 140 for five, Supernovas ended agonizingly 2 runs short at 138 for six. Harmanpreet and all-rounder Sophie Devine (32 off 22) took the game deep with a 48-run partnership for the fifth wicket.

Earlier, Trailblazers ?skipper and explosive opener Smriti Mandhana enthralled the Jaipur crowd with a match-winning 90 off 67 balls. Mandhana took her side to a fighting total after Supernovas opted to bo?wl first on a tricky surface.

No players from Australia are in the three squads that will take part in the four-match Women’s T20 Challenge 2019, which will be held in Jaipur from May 6 to 11 on the sidelines of the IPL playoffs.

The world leaders in the women’s game, Australia had fielded the largest overseas contingent in last year’s one-off exhibition match, including stars such as Ellyse Perry, Meg Lanning, Megan Schutt, Alyssa Healy and Beth Mooney.

Only last month, Cricket Australia’s female high-performance manager Shawn Flegler had told cricket.com.au that the board would support Australians participating in any exhibition matches played this year. “It’s a great opportunity for the players, and to see a women’s IPL get off the ground would be a great thing for the game more broadly,” Flegler had said.

But now, Australian women cricketers have been stopped by Cricket Australia (CA) from participating in the Women’s T20 Challenge next month owing to a men’s bilateral series dispute with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), which says its counterpart Down Under is indulging in “blackmail”.

An email from CA’s top official Belinda Clark (former Australia skipper) in possession of PTI indicates that stopping the three is a “pressure tactic” to ensure postponement of men’s ODI series.

As per the new Future Tours Program, Australia were supposed to play three ODIs in J?anuary 2020, which is during the peak Australian summer, owing to pressure from broadcasters.

“We will be in a position to consider the request when the current issue regarding the men’s ODI series that was agreed in the FTP for late January 2020 is resolved by Rahul (BCCI CEO Rahul Johri) and Kevin (CA CEO Kevin Roberts). I understand that this is being worked through at present,” Clarke wrote in an e-mail to the IPL operations team.

The BCCI has lambasted CA for putting conditions o?n t??he release of women players.

“If you look at the contents of Belinda’s email, it is clear that they are resorting to blackmailing tactics. How is releasing women players related to men’s series. It was agreed as per FTP and they want to backtrack now,” a senior official told PTI on condition of anonymity.

The BCCI’s IPL operations team had written to the CA for the release of the three players on April 4 and Clark mailed on April 5.

“Since April 5, there hasn’t been a single communication from CA and we had no option but to name the teams. Using women players to sort out men’s cricket issue is in bad taste,” the official added.

A four-match Women’s T20 challenge, comprising three teams, will be held during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 playoffs, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently announced.

T?he round robin matches of the tournament will be played on May 6, 8 and 9 while the final will be played on May 11 with all matches taking place at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium in ?Jaipur.

The tournament will comprise of the Supernovas, Trailblazers and Velocity ?all of whom will play each other before the two teams with the most points compete in the final. While the full list of players is yet to be confirme?d, Smriti Mandhana, Mithali Raj and Harmanpreet Kaur are expected to lead the three sides.

“The teams will comprise current and future stars of Indian cricket playing alongside a selection of the world’s best players,” the BCCI said in a release. “The combined strength of talent on display will showcase the quality of women’s cricket.”

The BCCI had experimented with Women’s T20 exhibition match that was played last year prior to the first play-off game of the men’s IPL at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai. The Mandhana-led Trailblazers had clashed with the Harmanpreet-led Supernovas with the latter winning by three wickets in a last ball thriller.

Elite women cricke??ters such as Ellyse Perry, Alyssa Healy, Suzie Bates, Meg Lanning and Sophie Devine had taken part in the match last ti??me around.

The full schedule for the Women’s T20 Challenge 2019 is as follows:

  • May 8 – Trailblazers vs Velocity
  • May 9 – Supernovas vs Velocity
  • May 11 – Final

Ellyse Perry won bragging rights over her good friend and Australian teammate Alyssa Healy in the Women’s T20 challenge match in Mumbai on Tuesday.

Perry’s Supernovas beat Healy’s Trailblazers by three wickets when Pooja Vastrakar, needing one run off the last ball of the match, hit a single through mid-wicket.

After put in to bat first by the Supernovas skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, the Trailblazers made 6-129 off their 20 overs, with the help of decent scores by Suzie Bates (32) and Jemimah Rodrigues (25). Perry (2-20) and Megan S??chutt (2-18) led the way with?? the ball for Supernovas.

In reply, Mithali Raj (22)?? and Danielle Wyatt (24) helped to set a solid base, and despite a splu??ttering finale to their run-chase, the Supernovas limped to victory with Perry finishing unbeaten on 13.

However, it was Perry’s brilliance in the field which changed the game into Supernovas favour. When the partnership between Rodrigues and Bates seemed to be going strong, Perry grabbed a stunner to send the young Indian batswoman back to the dugout.
