Brisbane Heat clinched the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) 05 title after trouncing the Adelaide Strikers by six wickets on Sunday.

After winning the toss, Heat asked Strikers to bat first. Amanda Wellington slammed 55 runs off 33 balls to help her side post a competitive total of 161/7 in 20 overs. Coming down to chase 162, Heat’s opener Beth Mooney smashed an unbeaten 56 off 45 balls to help her side cross the finish line with 11 balls to spare.

After the match, Mooney, who was awarded the Player of the match said: “There are a few other people that deserve this award before me. There were some outstanding performances throughout the game. JJ was outstanding again and we were obviously well led by Short. A lot of credit goes to Kirby Short, the way she has led this side.”

She added: “She’s been in talks with various leadership mentors and worked really close with them. Really exciting, now that this one’s (WBBL) over, we can look at that one (World Cup). We have had outstanding support throughout this WBBL. It shows that when the World Cup is on home soil, we are going to have the whole of Australia behind us.”

The winning captain, Kirby Short said: “In one word, proud (when asked how she felt). As a group, we have got a lot of feedback over the extended period of time over our consistency. To have made two finals in two years and to have won both is a pretty big deal.”

She added: “Incredibly proud to stand as a leader of this group. The word is belief. When you’ve been in tight situations, you learn how to win ugly. We have won a lot of games ugly this year. That allows you to have the belief that you can. Being in those moments allows you to succeed in most moments.”

Sydney Sixers registered a big win over the Melbourne Stars in the ongoing Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) game at Hurstville Oval on Saturday.

All-rounder Marizanne Kapp clean bowled Madeline Penna and Nicola Hancock before trapping Holly Ferling lbw to complete her maiden WBBL hat-t???rick. There was a strong South Africa flavor in the first half of the match as Mignon du Preez (44) top-scored for the Stars while Dane van Niekerk claimed two wickets for 18 in her first appearance of the fifth season.

Apart from all this, what grabbed the attention of fans was the brilliance of Sixers’ all-rounder Ellyse Perry to run-out Stars wicket-keeper Katey Martin.

On the last ball of the 16th over, Perry hit the bullseye to send Mart??in pack?ing for one.

Fans on social media were quick to applaud the Sixers’ skipper for her masterclass.

Adelaide Strikers legspinner Amanda-J?ade Wellington was left stunned when her boyfriend proposed in fro??nt of teammates and hundreds of cheering fans. After their thumping win over Melbourne Renegades on Saturday, the Strikers were seen giving autographs to the fans.

Tayler McKechnie, who has been dating Wellington for over a year, soon took the help of ground staff to get the players together for what they all thought was a “group photo.”

Wel??lington had no idea what was going on when ??McKechnie came on the field.

“When I saw him on the field, I just thought: ‘Get off, we’re trying to take a team photo.’ I had no idea what was really happening, but I’m so happy, I’m still shaking,” she said.

McKechnie proposed Wellington using a Pokemon card with the words ‘Will you marry me?’ written on it and the ring inside the ‘poke ball.’

The 22-year-old Amanda didn’t think twice before happily saying ‘Yes.’

Australia women’s wicketkeeper Alyssa Healy is known for her sense of humour, given that she was recently spotted showing off her dance moves during the Sri Lanka ODIs.

Alyssa married Australia men’s fast bowler Mitchell Starc in April 2016, after knowing him from the age of 9, when Mitch started as a wicketkeeper.

During the first match of the Women’s Big Bash League on Thursday, Sydney Sixers opener Alyssa was mic’ed up by the 7Cricket crew who are the official broadcasters of WBBL|05. At the same time, Mitchell moved into the commentary room, joining Lisa Sthalekar.

When another fellow commentator announced that Starc had joined them LIVE, the message was relayed to Alyssa in the middle as well. And she quipped that it was the ‘bring your husband to work day.’ This hilarious quip left Mitchell, Lisa, and another commentator in splits.

Here is the video:

Alyssa and Mitchell is only the third married couple to play Test cricket, afte??r the English couple the Prideauxs (Roger and Ruth), in the 1950s to 1960, and the Sri Lankan de Alwis couple (Guy and Rasanjali), in the 1980s and 1990s.
