The 2020 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) was initially scheduled? between March 29 to May 27 in ??India. But due to the onset of the global pandemic, the tournament was deferred indefinitely.
After months of speculations and gruelling wait, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), along with IPL Governing Council (GC), decided to conduct the tournament in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The 13th season of the IPL will take place from September 19 to November 10. However, this is not the first time the cash-rich league will be conducted outside India. Due to conflicting dates of Elections in India, IPL 2009 was moved to South Africa.
Five years later, the tournament was shifted t??o UAE in 2014 due to the same reason. Moreover, the latter hal??f of the competition was conducted in India, that year.
The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) ended up winners of the 2014 edition of IPL. But, it was the Mumbai Indians (MI) who put up a stellar show in the tournament.
After a disastrous start – losing the first five games – MI managed to qualify for the playoffs by winning the remainder of their league matches.
Today, let’s have a look at the highest wicket-takers in IPL from the UAE leg of the tournament:
Mohit Sharma was one of the many cricketers backed by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) talismanic captain, MS Dhoni.
Sharma ended up donning the ?purple c??ap in the 2014 edition for picking up the most number of wickets in the competition (23 wickets in 16 games).
In the UAE-leg of the tournament, Mohit picked up 8 wickets in five matches, boasting an average of 13.25.
Sunrisers Hyderabad’s (SRH) mainstay Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been a revelation over the years?. He made the Purple Cap his own, donning the orange je??rsey of SRH.
Bhuvi ended up as the third-highest wicket-taker in the tournament with 20 wickets in 14 games. In the UAE-leg of the tournament, Bhuvi scalped 8 wickets in 5 games, with an average of 15.
Further, Bhuvi is the all-time sixth-highest wicket-taker in IPL. His tally of 133 wickets is the third-most by any pacer, following Lasith Malinga and Dwayne Bravo.
The all-time leading wicket-taker in the IPL, MI’s Lasith Malinga is a living legend of the cash-rich league.
In the 2014 edition, Malinga could only feature in 10 games and ended up with 16 wickets. Eight ??of those wickets came during the UAE-leg of the tournament.
His tally is the thi??rd-most amongst bowlers in IPL, during t??he games held in UAE.
Express fast bowler Varun Aaron, had a decent outing in IPL 2014, with 16 wickets in 10 games, donning the jersey of the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
The Jharkhand pacer also had a brilliant UAE-leg of the competition, with 8 wickets in just four games. His tally was the second-most by any bowler in the tournament, du??ring the UAE segment of IPL 2014.
When one talks about the leading wicket-taker in the IPL, it is hard to ignore the name of Sunil Narine, who has scalped a total of 122 wickets in 110 m??atches for KKR.
In the 2014 edition of the IPL, Narine was amongst the wickets yet again with 21 wickets in 16 games. The mystery spinner from Trinidad ended second in? the race for the Purple Cap.
However, Narine picked the most number of wickets in the UAE leg of the tournament – nine wickets in five games – at a phenomenal average of 11.88.

]]>Rajasthan Royals rode teenager Riyan Parag’s heroics to keep their hopes of IPL 2019 playoffs berth alive by pulling off a dramatic three-wicket win over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) who were pushed to the brink of elimination, in a thrilling contest at the Eden Gardens on Thursday.
Dinesh Karthik silenced his critics with a career-best 97 not out? as KKR posted 175/6 in 20 overs after being asked to bat first.
Karthik promoted himself to No. 4 and smashed nine sixes and seven fours?? in his 50-ball unbeaten knock, as KKR ??hit top gear in the back end of the innings, scoring 126 off the last 10 overs.
In reply, the Royals were down in th??e dumps at 98/5 after 13 overs before 17-year old Parag ?who was dropped on a duck by Sunil Narine (2/25) off his own bowling ?came of age with a 31-ball 47.
All-rounder Jofra Archer also smacke??d an unbeaten 12-ball 27 to hit the winning runs by smashing a four and a six off Prasidh Krishna in the first two balls of the final over in which nine was required. Royals put on 177 for 7 in 19.2 overs and won the game with four ??balls to spare.

This Riyan Parag looks a serious cricketer. Didn't think he'd grow so much in a year, when I watched him at the U19 WC last year, but he has. The kid can play!

What a talent this kid #RiyanParag is! So cool, calm & collected in such pressure situation! He was hit on helmet, but played more aggressively & sensibly after! Remember he is just 17 yr old, playing infront of a big Kolkata crowd. He needs to be nurtured. #KKRvRR #IPL2019

]]>Not many had given Varun Aaron much of a chance before Thursday’s IPL match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Eden Gardens.
In just his second appearance for Rajasthan Royals (RR) this season, he rocked the Knight Riders top order with disciplined bowling. The Jharkhand pacer’s effort (4-1-20-2) also earned him the Man-of-the-Match award.
After winning the toss and opting to bowl first in Kolkata, Steve Smith gave Aaron the new ball in absence of Dhawal Kulkarni. The 29-year-old pacer started off brilliantly, dismissing the dangerous Chris L??ynn in his first over before coming back two overs late to haunt the hosts with another wicket, this time of another opening batsman Shubman Gill.
The 19-year-old Gill, who had?? hit Aaron for a boundary earlier in the over was completely deceived by the banana inswinger. Gill was looking to play the same shot which had earned him a boundary two balls earlier but the sw?ing bamboozled him completely this time and he ended up playing across the line. The ball took the faint edge of the bat before crashing into the stumps.

Later, RR chased the 176-run target in the last over and won the?? game against KKR?? by 3 wickets.

]]>The Board of Control for Cricket in India (B??CCI) has recently announced the ann??ual contracts of Indian cricketers.
The ??Indian board has doubled the retainer amount of the players in a?ll the three grades- A, B and C.
The biggest surprise is the exclusion of India’s limited-overs specialist, Suresh Raina, from the list of 32 players. Though in the last 12 months, Raina hasn’t played much cricket for India but he was a part of the Indian team in the last T20I series against England. He played exceptionally well in all the 3 games but still couldn’t find his place in BCCI’s annual contract this year.
Another Indian ace cricketer, Harbhajan Singh, who is trying hard at the domestic level to make a comeback in the Indian team,? was also ignored by BCCI in the annual contracts ?2017.
Well, Bhajji’s name didn’t disappoint cricket fans, since he at the domestic level, hasn’t given any spectacular performance to catch eye-balls of selectors.
Meanwhile, here are the names of the 7 players??, and their grades in the last contract, who missed out on BCCI’s annual contracts this year-
Suresh Raina ?Grade B
Mohit Sharma ?Grade C
Stuart Binny ?Grade C
Varun Aaron – Grade C
Karn Sharma ?Grade C
Harbhajan Singh ?Grade C
Sreenath Aravind ?Grade C
