West Indies faced UAE in the third and final ODI of the three-match series at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Friday, Jun?e 9. The Me?n in Maroon emerged victorious in the contest with four wickets and clinched the series (3-0) to whitewash UAE at their home.

Winning the toss and electing to bat first, UAE started well and were 142/3 at one stage. However, their middle order failed to make any further impact, and they were eventually bundled out for 184 in 36.1 overs. Vriitya Aravind was the top scorer for UAE, as he contributed 70 runs to the team’s total. Meanwhile, Muhammad Waseem also added crucial 42 runs for his side. Kevin Sinclair shined with the ball for W?est Indies and claimed four ??wickets.

In reply, despite losing their opener Johnson Charles cheaply, West Indies comfortably chased down the set target with four wickets to spare. Alick Athanaze was the standout performer for the visitors in their win. Athanaze hammered quickfire 65 runs off 45 deliveries comprising nine fours and three sixes. Apart from Athanaze, Shamarh Brooks added decent 39 runs off 58 balls.

It is worth mentioning that it was Athanaze’s debut match, and he reached the half-century mark in just 26 balls which went down into the record books as joint fastest ODI debut fifty. The other batter to have achieved the feat is Krunal Pandya. The Indian all-rounder also slammed a 26-ball fifty a??gainst England on ??his debut.

Coming back to the match, Athanaze’s exploit not only helped West Indies win the match, but they went on to clinch the series as well. The Caribbean side had defeated the hosts in the first two O??DIs by seven wickets and 78 runs, respectively.

While Sinclair was adjudged ‘Player of the Match’ for his exceptional performance in the match, Brandon King won the ‘Player of the Series’ award.

The West Indies produced a fine team display to secure a series victory over the United Arab Emirates (UAE) with a 78-run? win in the second One-day International (ODI). Th?e match was played at the Sharjah International Cricket Stadium on Tuesday (June 6).

West Indies won the toss in the 2nd ODI and elected to bat first. Johnson Charles and Brandon King, the centurion of the previous match provided a scintillating start to their team. The attacking opening duo scored runs all around the park by punishing the bad balls. Charles and King took full advantage of the powerplay and got the better of the opponent’s bowling attack by scoring at a blistering pace.

During his impactful inning of 63 in 47 deliveries, Charles smashed eight fours and three sixes. He and King added a 129-run opening stand in just 16 overs. King led the scoring for West Indies with 64 runs from 70 deliveries, while Keacy Carty (32), Shai Hope (23) and Kavem Hodge (26) made their contribution with the bat in the middle order. Odean Smith hammered 37 runs off 24 deliveries before being bowled out by Zahoor Khan (3/44) who also ended the Windies innings in 49.5 ?overs.

Chasing 307 for victory, UAE openers Mohammad Waseem and Aryansh Sharma failed to capitalise on the presence of only two fielders outside the ring in the starting ten overs. They both departed ea??rly, courtesy of some tight bowling from the new ball operators of?? West Indies.

Vriitra Avarind withstood the early pressure to compile 36, while Basil Hameed (49) and Ali Naseer (57) helped the home team bat through the full 50 overs. But they could only manage to take the team total ?to 228/7.  Eventually, West Indies won the match by 78 runs and took an invincible lead ?of 2-0 in the three-match series.

It was the first ODI series victory for the newly appointed captain Shai Hope and head coach Daren Sammy.

Notably, West Indies won the first match at the same venue by seven wickets with 88 balls to spare. The th?ird and final ODI is scheduled for Friday (June 9) in?? Sharjah.

West Indies edged past United Arab Emirates (UAE ) in the first ODI of the three-match series on Sunday (June 4). They defeate??d the hosts by seven wickets with 88 balls to spare in the match played at Sharjah International Cricket Stadium. With the victory, West Indies took a 1-0 lead in the se?ries.

UAE won the toss and chose to bat first. They were bundled out for 202 in 47.1 overs, with paceman Keemo Paul taking 3 wickets for 34 runs. The 19-year-old Ali Naseer top-scored for UAE with 58 off 52 on debut, while Vriitya Aravind scored a slower-paced 40 off 77. Dominic Drakes (2/29), Odean Smith (2/40) and Yannic Cariah (2/26) were the other wicket-takers for West Ind??ies.

Chasing 203, the opening duo of Johnson Charles and Brandon King gave Men in Maroon a steady start. Charles took on Naseer early in the powerplay, extracting 18 runs off the fourth over. However, Charles could not continue long as he fell just before the end of the powerplay, and West Indies were 50 for 1. After the departure of his opening partner, King joined hands with Sharmarh Brooks and stitched a 91-run stand to put the tourists on driver’s seat. King started dealing in boundaries as he progressed in his innings and stroked his maiden ODI hundred. Towards the end, Shai Hope provided the finishing? touch by striking two consecu?tive sixes to take West Indies home.

Kicking off a new era for West Indies under new captain Hope and new head coach Daren Sammy, the visitors looked untroubled chasing in testing conditions on a pitch offering turn and uneven bounce. The win boosts West Indies’ morale as they prepare for the ODI World Cup Qualifier later this month in Zimbabwe.

The second ODI between the UAE and West Indies will?? tak?e place on Tuesday (June 6) at the same venue.
