On Saturday, Javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra scripted history to win India’s first Gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics 2020. He became the second Indian to win an individual Gold medal at the Olympics after shooter Abhinav Bindra and the first I?ndian to win an Olympic medal in a track-and-field event.

The historic moment was celebrated by Indians worldwide, including the commentary panel of the ongoing England versus India Test series. T??h??e entire panel cheered for Chopra for his breathtaking achievement for India on the global stage.

However, one celebration that attracted maximum eyeballs came from none other than the cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar. The former India captain erupted in joy and was even spotted singing and dancing to the patriotic song ‘Mere Desh Ki Dharti’ from the 1967 film ‘Upkar’.

The official Twitter handle of Sony Sports India shared a video on social media where Gavaskar can be seen enjoying the special moment. Apart from the Mumbaikar, former India batsman Ajay Jadeja and fast bowler Ashish Nehra were also spotted celebrating Chopra’s colossal feat at the Olympics.

The other Indian winners, apart from Chopra at Tokyo Olympics 2020, were wrestler Bajrang Punia, weightlifter Mirabai Chanu, shuttler PV Sindhu, another wrestler Ravi Dahiya, boxer Lovlina Borgohain and the Indian men’s hockey team.

After the impressive show by all the medal winners, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) decided to honour them by announcing the c??ash rewards with INR 1 crore reserved for Chopra.

Silver medallists – weightlifter Saikhom Mirabai Chanu and wrestler Ravi Kumar Dahiya โ€?shall be given INR 50 lakh each, while bronze medallists — wrestler Bajrang Punia, boxer Lovlina Borgohain and shuttler PV Sindhu — will get INR 25 lakh each.

Similarly, the men’s hockey team, which won its first Olympic medal in 41 years, will get INR 1.25 crore.

IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have announced a Rs 1 crore cash reward for javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra, who won a gold medal?? for India ??at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Chopra became the first Indian to win a gold medal in track and event at the Olympics with his best effort of 87.58 metres in the men’s javelin throw final in Tokyo on Saturday.

“We as Indians are proud of Neeraj Chopra as his effort at Tokyo 2020 will inspire millions of Indians to take up sport and instill belief in them to be able to compete and excel at the highest level in any discipline of the sport.

“His gold medal winning throw of 87.58m in the men’s javelin has galvanised the entire nation,” a CSK spokesperson said in an official statem??ent.

“As a mark of appreciation and honour on his stellar achievement, CSK is awarding Rs. 1 crore to Neeraj Chopra,” the statement added.

The three-time IPL champions also revealed that they would be creating a special jersey with the number 8758 as a m??ark of respect to?? Neeraj.

The MS Dhoni-led CSK team will resume their IPL 2021 campaign against Mumbai Indians (MI) in Dubai on September 19.
The Super Kings are curre??ntly placed at the se??cond spot in the standings with ten points in seven matches.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the whopping prize money for India’s medal winners at Tokyo Olympics 2020. Through his tweet, the BCCI secretary Jay Shah confirmed that Neeraj Chopra, who won the gold medal in javelin throw, will be awarded Rs 1 crore, while silver medalists Mirabai Chanu and Ravi Kumar Dahiya will receive Rs 50 lakh each.

Bronze medal winners PV Sindhu, Lovlina Borgohain and Bajrang Punia will be awarded Rs 25 lakh each. The men’s hockey team will receive Rs 1.25 crore.

“Our athletes have made the country proud by finishing on the podium at @Tokyo2020. The @BCCI acknowledges their stellar efforts and we are delighted to announce cash prizes for the medallists,” wrote Shah in his congratulatory post.

On Saturday, India celebrated their best ever Olympic campaign with seven medals – 1 Gold, 2 Silver and 4 Bronze.

With 126 athletes across 18 sports disciplines, India had sent their biggest-ever contingent to Tokyo Olympics. Indian athletes participated in 69 events – highest ever for the country.

Indian boxer Lovlina Borgohain secured the second Bronze medal for her country at the ongoing Tokyo Olympics 2020 even after facing a defeat in the 69 kg welterweight semifinal against Busenaz Surmeneli on Wednesday.
