After featuring in eight County Championship matches for Hampshire this summer, Indian batsman Ajinkya Rahane is looking forward to the upcoming West Indies-India Test series. The two-match tournament is scheduled from 22nd August to 3rd September 2019.

Speaking at an event in Kolkata, Rahane said, “I am really excited, as we all know they (Windies) are a dangerous team and often unpredictable too. It is important to respect them and play the game as we’ve been playing, especially in Test cricket”.

India’s Test vice-captain, Rahane is currently undergoing his fitness training at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.

I’m actually doing my fitness in Bengaluru because it’s raining heavily in Mumbai now. As I wanted to train outdoors, I thought Bengaluru is the best place,” told Rahane.

In July, BCCI appointed ‘The Wall’ Rahul Dravid as the Head of Cricket at the NCA. Rahane was delighted to find his ‘inspiration’, Dravid at the academy. “I am really happy to find him there. I always follow him, he is one of my role models,” he added.

Last month, former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly expressed his disappointment after Rahane was n??ot picked up in the ODI squad to face West Indies.

It is often believed that former Indian cricketer Rahul Dravid is nicknamed as ‘The Wall’ because of his staunch technique and the patience to spend long hours at the crease, and also a mark of appreciation of his skills as a batsman who was very hard to dismiss from the wicket. But recently Rahul Dravid himself revealed how he got the name ‘The Wall’.

A famous stand-up comedian Vikram Sathaye on his show ‘What the Duck’, asked Dravid, “So when is the first time you heard ‘The Wall’? to which the former legend replied, “I can’t remember exactly the first time but I know where it sort of came out from, where it originated. I think, it probably came out after one of my long, typically, maybe boring innings but when I saw the headline, ‘The Wall’.”

Dravid also said that it was a clever move by one of a person of the media houses of the country.”I think, later on, a reflection after going through my career, I really thought that it was really clever boy or girl sitting on a desk in some newspaper office somewhere. Actually, looking into the future and sort of decided, Okay, let’s name him ‘The Wall’ today in a really positive sense. But also we can flip that around for our future headlines, which could be ‘The Wall’ crumbles or another break in ‘The Wall’, or ‘The Wall’ fell down. As it happened, when I went through a bad patch, later on, I saw those headlines elsewhere in the newspaper. So, I think someone really clever in a newspaper office somewhere sitting there decided you know this is a good one for the future.”

Dravid is ??currently the coach of India U1?9 and India A team and is hailed as a great thinker of the game.

You will be surprised to hear that in past, hostel guests used to complain about weird noises coming from former Indian batting legend Rahul Dravid‘s room!

Recently, famous stand-up comedian Vikram Sathaye on his show ‘What the Duck’, revealed a very interesting story about the former Indian skipper. Sathaye asked Dravid about how once guests complained about weird noises coming from his hotel room. “Are you aware of the fact that hotel guests used to complain, people who were especially living next to your room that weird noises would come out of Rahul Dravid’s room because there was actually a net practice happening there. The night before,” a laughing Sathaye said.

‘The Wall’ replied to the host by saying “No, I mean, I wasn’t. I mean you carry a bat with me, I like to carry the bat in my room and just sometimes, pick up the bat and get a feel of what it felt like in my hand and so when you are tapping the ground and sometimes you know, the people below you the floor, sometimes you get the odd calls and saying ‘can you stop that’.”

Sathaye also told a very interesting story about the night practice sessions of the former cricketer by saying “Vijeta (Rahul Dravid’s wife) said that early in your marriage she thought you were sleep walking.”

To this, laughing Dravid replied, “No, I mean it happens so sometimes you can’t get sleep. So, you know swinging the bat or you just you know sort of practicing a drill something and I think that’s a lot of batsmen will do that. They’ll sort of and you are taught that as a youngster. You used to drill your technique in front of a mirror, so you know practicing, sort of shadow practicing and it just becomes the habit and it’s almost a comfort feeling I think. It’s just a little bit of a comfort feeling when you feel nervous and pick up your bat and shadow practice and imagine you self-smashing the bowlers all over the ground.”

Sathaye then revealed another part of the first story, about hotel guests who used to complain about those weird noises, “Mane kaka (Ramesh Mane, Team India’s masseur for a long time) tells a story that somebody complained that a lot of noise is coming out of Rahul Dravid’s room. So, they went back and said, sorry on your behalf and when they found out that it was Rahul Dravid’s room, they came and apologized because they didn’t want to go down in history as culprits who disturbed Rahul Dravid and caused India’s loss.”
