Dubai International Cricket Stadium Pitch Report

The pitch at Dubai International Cricket Stadium provides a well-balanced contest between batters and bowlers. Fast bowlers tend to benefit from notable swing, especially in the early stages of the game, and are likely to make the most of the new ball’s movement. This phase is often critical for the bowling side, as the conditions favor seamers who can extract swing and bounce.

However, once the ball loses its shine and the early overs have passed, the surface begins to play in favor of the batters. The even nature of the pitch, combined with less assistance for b??owlers as the game progresses, gives batters more confidence to play their strokes.

The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 kicked off with an encounter between Bangladesh  and Scotland at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium?? on Thursday, October 3.

Bangladesh, led by captain Nigar Sultana?, won the toss and elected to bat, setting a target of 120 runs. Scotland fought hard but ultimately fell short, handing Bangladesh a 16-run victory in a closely contested match.

Sathi Rani and Sobhana Mostary anchor Bangladesh’s innings

Bangladesh posted 119/7 in their 20 overs, with Sathi Rani and Sobhana Mostary providing stability at the top. Sathi Rani, who opened the innings, scored a crucial 29 off 32 balls, striking three boundaries. Sobhana Mostary, batting at number three, top-scored with a composed 36 off 38 balls, hitting two fours. The rest of the batting lineup struggled to accelerate, as Taj Nehar fell for a duck, and Nigar Sultana contribu?ted 18 runs before being di??smissed.

Late in the innings, Fahima Khatun played a quick cameo, smashing 10 runs off just 5 balls, including two boundaries, giving Bangladesh a slight boost towards the end of their innings. For Scotland, Saskia Horley was the pick of the bowlers, claiming 3 wickets ??for just 13 runs in her 2 overs.

Sarah Bryce’s lone stand not enough for Scotland

Chasing 120 to win, Scotland’s innings struggled to gain momentum. Sarah Bryce anchored the chase with a well-constructed 49 off 52 balls, holding one end while wickets tumbled around her. She found brief support from her sister, Kathryn Bryce, who added 11 runs, and Ailsa Lister, who also contributed 11. However, no other batter was able to get going, with Darcey Carter, Priyanaz Chatterji and Lorna Jack all failing to make a significant impact.

Bangladesh restricted Scotland to 103/7 in their 20 overs, securing a 16-run win.

In a significant announcement ahead of the upcoming IPL 2025 player mega auction, the tournament governing council has confirmed that franchises can retain up to six players. This retention can be done through either direct retention or by utiliz??ing the Right to Match (RTM) option.

The player regulations also introduce a new rule that classifies a capped Indian player who has not been part of the playing XI ?in international cricket for the last five years as uncapped. This means that teams can now retain such players as uncapped, potentially saving significant amounts of money.

IPL Retention and RTM Rules

A team is permitted to retain six players from its current squad, combining direct retention and RTM. The maximum number of capped players that can be reta?ined is five, which can include both Indian and overseas players. Additionally, teams can retain up to two uncapped players. There are no r??estrictions on the number of overseas players that can be retained.

The number of RTM cards available to a team will depend o?n how many players they retain ??before the auction.

MS Dhoni’s potential retention

One of the most intriguing aspects of the new retention rules is the possibility of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) retaining former India captain MS Dhoni as an uncapped player. Given that Dhoni retired from international cricket in 2020, he meets the criteria? for being considered uncapped under the new regulations.

If CSK decides to retain Dhoni as an uncapped player, they will be required to pay him four crore rupees, significantly less than the 12 crore he was obliged to b??e paid ahead of the 2022 auctions.

Dhoni’s future in the IPL has been a subject of speculation for the past few seasons. After undergoing knee surgery in 2023, he handed over the CSK captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad and played a limited role with the bat in IPL 2024. Recently, Dhoni hinted that his decision ??on whether to continue playing in the IPL would depend on the finalization of the player retention rules.

In the dynamic world of the Indian Premier League (IPL), the ‘Right to Match’ (RTM) card has been a key strategic tool for franchises during player auctions. Introduced by the IPL Governing Council before the 2018 season, the RTM card allows teams to r??etain a player who had previously been part of their squad but had been released into the auction pool.

RTM option to be used in the IPL 2025 Auction

According to the new retention rules released by the IPL Governing Council on Saturday, the team owners can retain a total of 6 players from their existing squad. This can be either via retention or by the use of RTM card at the IPL 2025 Auction. It means the IPL fra??nchises can opt for a maximum six retentions, including the RTM option.

What is RTM card?

The RTM card is essentially a mechanism that gives franchises the right to “match” the highest bid made by another team for one of their former players, thereby retaining that player in their squad. This rule was designed to provide teams with a safety net to keep their core players, while still adhering to auction dynamics and salary caps.

For example, if Rinku Singh is being auctioned and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) makes the highest bid of INR 7 crores, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Rinku’s current franchise, will have the first right to match that bid. If KKR exercises their RTM, CSK will be given another opportunity to increase their bid. If CSK raises it to INR 8 crores, KKR can again match the bid and retain Rinku for INR 8 crores.

How the RTM card works at the IPL Auction?

Here’s how the RTM card functions during the IPL auction:

  • Auction begins: A player is placed up for bidding, and franchises start placing their bids.
  • Final Bid: Once the final bid for the player is reached, the auctioneer asks if the player’s former franchise would like to use their RTM card.
  • Use of RTM: If the team decides to use the RTM card, they retain the player at the final bid price. The original bidding team does not get the player despite having won the auction.
  • Strategic Decision: The decision to use the RTM card must be made immediately during the auction and can impact the team’s overall budget, as they must adhere to salary caps.

Limitations of the RTM card

  • Eligibility: The RTM card can only be used for players who were part of the franchise’s previous squad.
  • Budget Constraints: Even if a team wants to use an RTM card, they must have enough budget remaining to match the highest bid made for the player.

RTM in previous IPL auctions

The? RTM card has been a game-changer in past auctions. For example, during the 2018 IPL auction, teams like Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) used their RTM card to retain their star all-rounder Andre Russell, while Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) retained their mystery spinner Rashid Khan using the RTM option.
