Australia scripted history on Sunday evening in Dubai to become the new T20 World Cup champions after registering a comprehensive 8-wicket win over New Zealand in the summit clash.

Australia opener David Warner played an eventful knock during his team’s thrilling win over Pakistan in the second semi-final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Dubai on Thursday.

Warner’s innings was, however, laced with a couple of controversial moments. The first, when he hit a six off a double-bounce delivery from Mohammad Hafeez, and the second when he was dismissed caught behind from a Shadab Khan delivery despite replays showing no contact between bat and ball. Both moments have been creating a lot of buzz ?on social media since that evening.

Former India opener Gautam Gambhir slammed Warner for coming down the pitch to smash Hafeez’s miscued double-bounce delivery into the stand.

//twitter.com/ShaunakCr??ic/status/1458836604512968721

“What an absolutely pathetic display of spirit of the game by Warner! #Shameful,” tweeted Gambhir.

However, now the Aussie leg-spinner Adam Zampa has come out in defence of his teammate. On the ABC Grandstand podcast, Zampa said that though Gambhir’s take was interesting, what Warner did cannot be termed as wrong.

“It’s an interesting take from Gautam Gambhir. It’s a pretty big effort from David Warner and I think he had every right to,” opined Zampa.

Warner was later given out on 49, and despite Australia having t?wo referrals left, the swashbuckling batter walked back to the dugout, seemingly convinced that he had nicked the ball.

Warner’s dismissal notwithstanding, Australia went on to win the contest by five wickets and six balls to spare, thanks to Matthew Wade’s 41 not out off 17 and Marcus Stoinis’ unbeaten 40 off 31 balls.

Australia will take on New Zealand in th?e summit clash of the marquee event on Sunday, November 14.

A new T20 World Champion will be crowned on Sunday when New Zealand takes on Australia in the grand finale at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. New Zealand knocked out England while Australia defeated Pakistan to reach the final.

The Black Caps will miss the services of their star batter and wicketkeeper Devon Conway as he broke his right hand during the semi-final clash against England. In place of Conway, Tim Seifert is set to fulfil the keeping duties. He, too,? is handy with the bat in top-order.

There are no injuries ahead of the match for Australia, and Aaron Finch should field with the same team as they aim to clinch their first-ever T20 World Cup title in men’s cricket.

New Zealand and Australia faced off only once in T20 World Cups when the Black Caps edged past the Aussies by?? eight runs on a slug??gish surface in Dharamshala, India.

Head-to-Head record:

Played: 14 | NZ won: 0?5 | AUS won: 09 | No result: 0

Pitch report:

The pitch in Dubai often favours batsmen, especially in the second innings. But spinners will have a role to play ??in the middle-orders since there are bigger boundaries at this venue. Keeping dew in mind, the team winning the toss will opt to bowl first.

Probable XIs:

New Zealand: Martin Guptill, Daryl Mitchell, Kane Williamson (c), Glenn Phillips, Tim Seifert (wk), James Neesham, Mitchell Santner, Adam Milne?, Tim Southee, Ish Sodhi, Trent Boult

Australia: Aaron Finch (c), David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Steve Smi?th, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Matthew Wade, Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Adam Zampa, J?osh Hazlewood

Match Prediction:

Case 1:

  • NZ wins the toss and bowls first
  • Powerplay score: 35-40
  • AUS total: 140-150

Case 2:

  • AUS wins the toss and bowls first
  • Powerplay score: 40-45
  • NZ total: 150-160

Team batting second to win the contest.

Australia defeated Pakistan in the second semi-final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 by five wickets at the Dubai International Stadium on Thursday, November 11.

It was a tough fixture as Australia had to chase down 177, but a scintillating knock from wicketkeeper Matthew Wade helped them cross the finish line. David Warner scored a quick-fire 49, and amidst that, he ??hit a double-bounce delivery for a maximum.

The experienced batter’s decision to send Mohammad Hafeez’s wayward delivery into the stand drew critici??sm from some quarters.

Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir terming it “absolutely pathetic” and slammed the Aussie ope?ner for lack of sportsmanship.

“What an absolutely pathetic display of spirit of the game by Warner! #Shameful What say @ashwinravi99?,” tweeted Gambhir.

But Australia head coach Justin Langer said he was impressed by Warner’s instinct to make a shot out of the ball that would have surprised any batsman.

“Oh my gosh! it’s one of the best things I have ever seen in the game of cricket. I don’t think anyone would have the instincts to do that,” Langer told reporters.

“Most people would not have been sure what to do. It’s a no-ball, and then to have the talent and ability to hit it for six, unbelievable.

“And then he walked of course when he nicked it, so anyone thinks it to be unsportsmanlike, probably evens it up a bit.”

Too much noise in the stadium: Langer

Soon after the incident, Warner walked back to the pavilion after he was given out caught behind. However, replays and ultra-edge confirmed that the ball did not touch his bat. Neither Warner nor Glenn Maxwell, who was at the non-striker’s end, opted for DRS.

Talking about the same, Langer said, “So much noise out there [at the stadium], honestly it was like a rock concert.

“I think we have all talked about it. He was surprised. Maxi was surprised, he was his partner when saw it on the replays later on in the innings. We will work through that.”

New Zealand wicketkeeper Devon Conway has been ruled out of the 2021 T20 World Cup final after breaking his right hand. The 30-year-old punched his bat in frustration after getting out for 46 in first semi-final against England in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday.

Conway was stumped by Jos Buttler off Liam Livingstone in the 14th over of second innings before his team successfully chased t?he set target of 167 with five wickets in hand and six balls ??to spare.

“He’s absolutely gutted to be ruled out like this at this time,” NZ head coach Gary Stead said in his statement.

“Devon is hugely passionate about playing for the BLACKCAPS and no one is more disappointed at the moment than he is – so we’re really trying to rally around him.

“It looked a pretty innocuous reactionary incident on the field, but the blow obviously caught the bat between the glove padding and while it’s not the smartest thing he’s done there’s certainly an element of bad luck in the injury.

“Devon is a great team-man and a very popular member of the side so we’re all feeling for him. He’s determined to support the team in anyway he can for the remainder of the tour before he returns home to recover,” added Stead.

Conway will also miss the upcoming tour of India, starting with a three-match T20I series from November 17??.

“Due to the timelines we won’t be bringing in a replacement player for this World Cup or next week’s T20 series against India, but are working through our options for the Test series later this month,” the Black Caps coach added further.

Babar Azam & Co. will be riding on a wave of momentu??m after a near-perfect tournament so far. They have been brilliant, winning all the five games of the Super 12 stage.

Pitch report:

India’s campaign in the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup ended on a winning note as they thrashed Namibia by nine wickets at the Dubai International Cricket Stad?ium on Monday, November 8.

Captain Virat Kohli’s bid to lead the inaugural champions to their second T20 World Cup title got over after the embarrassing defeats against Pakistan and New Zealand, both of whom reached the knockout stage from Group 2.

The pre-tournament favourites won their last three games comprehensively but still crashed out of what was Kohli’s final tournament as T20I captain.

Spin duo of Ravindra Jadeja (3/16) and Ravichandran Ashwin (3/20) shared six wickets between them to restrict Namibi?a to 132-8 after optin??g to field first.

Rohit Sharma (56) and KL Rahul (54 not out) smash?ed half-centuries as India reached the set target in 15.2 overs.

Rohit Sharma dived forward to grab a stunner

In the 15th over of the first innings, Namibian all-rounder JJ ??Smit was undone by a stunning catch from Rohit Sharma at short cover.

S??mit had to walk back to the pavilion for just 9. After his dismissal, Namibia could add only 39 runs to their total in the nex??t five overs.

Here’s the video of Rohit’s brilliance:

After India’s superb win over Namibia, the ‘Player of the Match’ Ravindra Jadeja said: “As a bowler, I enjoyed the game, the ball was dry, and that is always good for a spinner. Some turned, and some didn’t, so the batsman had to keep guessing.

“I’ve been playing with Ashwin for 10 years, he’s played well in the IPL with the white ball, and he’s brought that here.”

Pakistan Television (PTV) has sent Rs 100 million defamation notice to former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar after he walked out of a show for the rude behaviour of host Nauman Niaz.

The incident took place last month on the live PTV sports show ‘Game on hai’, where Akhtar was present alongside David Gower and Viv Richards. Akhtar gave credit to Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Lahore Qalandars for discovering fast bowlers Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf after Pakistan’s victory over New Zealand in the Super 12 stage match o??f the ongoing T20 World Cu??p 2021.

Reacting to Akhtar’s statement, host Niaz said: “You’re being a little r??ude and I don’t want to say this, but if you’re being over smart, you can go. I am saying this on air.?/em>

Soon, Akhtar left the show and while storming out, he said: “I am resigning? from PTV. The way I have been treated on national TV; I d?on’t think I should be sitting here right now.?/em>

After the controversial episode, PTV faced a massive financial loss. They accused the former Pakistan speedster of viola??ting the clauses and demanded Rs 100 million as damages along with Rs 33,33,000, which is equivalent to a thr??ee-month salary of the organisation.

“As per clause 22, both sides shall have right to terminate his agreement by serving three months?written notice or payment in lieu thereof. Whereas, Shoaib Akhtar resigned on air on October 26 which has resulted into huge financial losses to PTV,?the notice to Akhtar read.

“You also left Dubai during T20 World Cup transmission without any prior info?rmation to PTVC management. Besides, appearance on an Indian TV show along with Indian cricket??er Harbhajan Singh, also caused irreparable losses to PTV,?/em> it further stated.

Akhtar responded to the defamation notice on social media and will now take help from his lawyers.  Expressing his disappointment on Twitter, he wrote: “Utterly? Disappointed. After miserably failing to safeguard my respect & repute while i was working for PTV, they have now sent me a Recovery Notice. I am a fighter & will not give up & fight this legal battle. My lawyer @SalmanKNiazi1 will take this forward according to law.?/em>
