The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially announced India’s Test squad for the upcoming five-match Test series against the hosts Australia. This tour, commencing on November 22, will see India face off against the hosts in what promises to be a highly competitive series. Rohit Sharma is set to lead the squad, with pacer Jasprit Bumrah appointed as vice-captain.

Key players dropped from the Indian squad for Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25

In a significant shift, several established pla??yers from the previous Border-Gavaskar Trophy squad have been dropped as selectors made bold changes. Some of these players have either struggled with form, fa??ced stiff competition from younger talents, or been sidelined due to returning veterans.

1. Cheteshwar Pujara: Experienced Middle-Order Batter

Pujara, known for his resilience and technique, has been omitted as selectors opt for younger options in the middle order, ?marking the end of an era for one of India’s most steadfast Test special?ists.

2. Shreyas Iyer: Middle-Order Batter

Despite h?is strong potential, Iyer faced a lean patch in recent series and couldn’t recover in time to secure a spot. His inconsistency in the middle order has led selectors to?? look elsewhere for stability.

3. Suryakumar Yadav: Explosive Middle-Order Batter

Yadav, a dynamic batter in shorter formats,?? has struggled to find his rhythm in the longer format. The selectors opted for consistency, leaving him out of the squad for Australia.

4. Ishan Kishan: Wicketkeeper-Batter

Known for his aggressive batting, Kisha??????????????????????????n misses out as the team prioritizes experienced wicketkeepers like KL Rahul and the returning Rishabh Pant, both known for their Test resilience.

5. Srikar Bharat: Wicketkeeper-Batter

Bharat’s ex??clusion comes as the team’s wicketkeeping roster solidifies with the inclusion of senior players Rahul and Pant. Bharat last played a Test in early 2024, but fierce competition has kept him from the squad.

6. Axar Patel: All-rounder

Patel, a left-arm spinn??er and ??handy lower-order batter, couldn’t find a place in the squad, with Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar providing the all-round options in the spin department.

7. Kuldeep Yadav: Spinner

Yadav, despite his knack for breakthroughs, is left out, with the squad banking on a more balanced attack. His omissio?n underscores the preference for finger spinners who offer control over the wrist spin variation.

8. Mohammed Shami:  Fast Bowler

Shami, one of India’s premier pacers, has been rested in favor of emerging fast bowlers. Although he remai??ns a vital part of India’s pace battery, selectors are focusing on fresh faces for this series.

9. Umesh Yadav: Fast Bowler

Yadav, known for his speed and bounce, has not made the cut, with India’s focus shifting toward younger pace?rs who bring versatility and stamina required for Australian conditions.

10. Jaydev Unadkat: Pacer

Unadkat, wh?o made a brief comeback in recent years, has been left out as the team prioritizes emerging pacers who bring extr??a pace and variety in the Australian pitches.

New additions in the Indian Test squad

India’s squad also sees fresh additions who bring unique strengths to the team. Among them is Prasidh Krishna, an express pacer who debuted in the Boxing Day Test last year. Batting prospect Abhimanyu Easwaran joins to strengthen the top order and emerging talents Harshit Rana (fast bowler) and Nitish Kumar Reddy (all-rounder) a??lso add depth, giving selectors a versatile squad for Australian condit?ions.

India’s Test squad for the 2024-25 Australia tour

Rohit Sharma (c), Jasprit Bumrah (vc), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli KL Rahul, Rishab??h Pant, Sarfaraz Khan, Dhruv Jurel, R Ashwin, R Jadeja, Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep, Prasidh Krishna, Harshit Rana, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar.

The Duleep Trophy 2024 witnessed a thrilling showdown between India D and India B at the Rural Development Trust Stadium B in Anantapur. The match, which concluded on Friday, was marked by exceptional performances from Sanju Samson and Navdeep Saini, two prominent figures in the Indian ??cricket land?scape.

Sanju Samson’s century powers India D out of danger

Batting at number six, Samson played a pivotal role in India D’s innings. Coming to the crease after the team had lost two quick wickets, his aggressive approach immediately set the tone. He launched a calculated assault on the India B bowlers, peppering the boundary with his elegant strokes.

Samson’s century, his 11th in first-class cricket, was a masterpiece of timing and precision. He showcased his power hitting scoring 106 runs facing 101 deliveries with three sixes and his finesse with 12 fours. His partnership with Ricky Bhui helped steady India D’s ship, and his subsequent association with Saransh Jain propelled the team past the 300-run mark.

Navdeep Saini’s five-for strikes back for India B

While Samson’s century provided India D with a solid foundation, Saini’s bowling performance ensured that India B remained in the contest. Saini, who has been a consistent performer in first-class cricket, delivered a spell of 5/74 to derail India D’s innings. His fifth five-wicket haul in first-class cricket showcased his ability to swing the ball both ways and extract bounce from the pitch.

Saini’s most significant contribution came in the form of dismissing Samson, who was caught by Nitish Kumar Reddy. He then cleaned up India D’s lower order, picking up the wickets of Akash Sengupta and Arshdeep Singh to complete his five-for. India D’s last five wickets fell for just 42 runs, with Saini playing a key role in all of those dismissals.

Other notable performances from the match

Apart from Samson and Saini, several other players made significant contributions to the match. Devdutt Padikkal, Srikar Bharat, and Ricky Bhui scored half-centuries for India D, while Rahul Chahar picked up three wickets for India B.

In the other last-round match, Avesh Khan scored his second fifty in first-class cricket for India A against India C. His unbeaten knock of 51 from 68 balls helped India A post a respectable total. Avesh’s partnership with Shashwat Rawat was crucial in rescuin?g India A from a precarious positi??on.

The Duleep Trophy continues to be a platform for young and emerging Indian cricketers to showcase their talent. The performances of Samson and Saini in this particular match serve as ?a testament to their skills and potential.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially announced their men’s squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh, scheduled to begin from September 19th. The selection features several high-profile comebacks, including players like Virat Kohli, KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant. Additionally, promising left-arm pacer Yash Dayal received his maiden cal??l-up to the national team.

Key inclusions: Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant make Test comebacks

Kohli’s return to the Test squad has generated considerable excitement. The Indian cricket maestro, who missed the previous Test series against England, will make his highly anticipated return to the format. Kohli last played a Test match against South Africa in January 2024 and will be looking to reestablish his dominance in red-b??all cricket.

Rahul also finds himself back in the squad after sustaining an injury in the England series earlier this year. His comeback will add depth to India’s top-order batting lineup, which struggled in patches during the England series.

Another significant inclusion of wicketkeeper-batter Pant, who will be making his return to Test cricket after an extended injury layoff. Pant last played a Test match against Bangladesh in December 2022 and missed the entire 2023 calendar year due to a severe injury??. His explosive batting and wicketkeeping skills will be crucial for India as they prepare for the Bangladesh series.

Yash Dayal: The new face in the Indian squad

Making his debut for the Indian Test squad is 26-year-old fast bowler Yash. The left-arm seamer has garnered attention for his consistent performances with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 and his standout showing in domestic cricket. Notably, in the opening match of the Duleep Trophy 2024 between India A and India B, he claimed 4 wickets.

Dayal boasts a??n impressive record of 74 wickets in 24 First-Class matches, and the team management will be eager to see him replicate his domestic success on the int?ernational stage.

Shreyas Iyer and others failed to make a cut

While some players are making their comebacks, others have been le?ft out of the squad after a disappointing England ser??ies earlier this year.

1. Rajat Patidar, who had been a part of the squad for the England series, failed to deliver consistent performances during the se?cond, third, and fourth Tests. His poor form has resulted in him being dropped from the squad for the Bangladesh series.

2. Devdutt Padikkal, who made his Test debut in the fifth match against England and managed to? score a half-century, has also been dropped. Despite his promising start, the selectors have ??opted for more experienced options, and Padikkal will have to wait for another opportunity to prove himself.

3. Srikar Bharat, another casualty of the squad reshuffle, finds himself excluded??, largely due to the returns of senior wicketkeepe?rs like Rahul and Pant. Bharat had his last Test appearance in January 2024 against England, but with more experienced options now available, he was unable to retain his place.

4. Mukesh Kumar, who last played in the Test series against England and failed to make a significant impact with his bowling, has als?o been excluded from the squad. The selectors have opted to revamp the bowling lineup, bringing in the promising Yash to inject fresh talent into the attack.

5. Shreyas Iyer, the middle-order batter??, who underperformed in the first two matches against England, has not been named in the squad for the Bangladesh series. Iyer has struggled to regain form after a string of low scores in the Test format.

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) comprehensively defeated Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the 43rd match of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 at Dubai International Cricket Stad?ium on Wednesday.

Chasing 150, the Challengers started well with captain Virat Kohli (25) and young star Devdutt Padikkal (22), adding 48 runs for the opening wicket. But soon, both Padi?kkal and Ko??hli lost their wickets as RCB were reduced to 58/2.

Then, Srikar Bharatand Glenn Maxwell steadied the ship and never allowed the Royals to come back in the game. The pair went on to form a crucial 69??-runs partnership for the third wicket to put RCB close?? to the winning position.

Although Bharat missed out from scoring a half-century by six runs, Maxwell (50 not out) managed to reach his fifty and RCB finished the game???? in the 18th over with seven wickets in hand.

Earlier, Evin Lewis and Yashasvi Jaiswal gave RR a flying start. The duo put together 77 runs for the opening wicket in just 8.2 overs before Daniel Christian sent back Yashasvi for 31. But, Lewis kept the momentum and reached his half-century. As the left-handed batter was looking set to go far, debutant George Garton removed him to provid?e another breakthrough.

Lewis’ dismissal opened the flood gates as the Royals kept losing wickets at regular intervals only to reach 149/9 after 20 overs.

For the Challengers, Harshal Patel picked three wickets for 34 runs in his quota of 4 overs. Similarly, Yuzvendra Chahal (2/18) and Shahbaz Ahmed (2/10) bagged a couple of scalps each.
