South Africa completed a sweep of their two-match series against Sri Lanka as they recor??ded a 10-wicket victory on Day 3 of the second Test on Tuesday.

South Africa reached the paltry target of 67 without losing a wicket. Openers Dean Elgar (31 not out) and Aiden Markram (unbeaten 36) guided them to victory at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesbu??rg with two and a half days still remaining in the contest.

Earlier in the day, Dimuth Karunaratne and Niroshan Dickwella start?ed brightly as Sri Lanka resumed on their o?vernight score of 150 for four.

Karunatne went to a 123-ball century with two successive boundaries on the off??-s??ide of fast bowler Anrich Nortje but the Sri Lankan skipper in an attempt to pull the same bowler gave an easy catch to Wiaan Mulder, who was fielding at backward square leg.

Lungi Ngidi picked up the wicket of Dickwella in the n???ext over as a leading-edge flew to Temba Bavuma at mid-off and there was minimal resistance from rest of the players.

South Africa will now depart for their first series in Pakistan since 2007/08. The first of two Tests begins in Karachi on January 26.

Sri Lanka, on the hand, will return home on a chartered fl????ight and go straight to Galle, where they will play two Tests against England, starting on January 14.

Riding high on confidence after the massive win in the Centurion Test, South Africa continued their domination over Sri Lanka on D??ay 1 of the second Test at The Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg.

Sri Lanka elected to bat first, but their decision went horribl??y wrong as South African pacers demolished Lankan batting to bundle up visitors for just 157.

In the absence of star speedster Kagiso Rabada, right-arm paceman Anrich Nortje wreaked havoc at the Wanderers as he went ?on to pick six wickets, recording his second five-wicket hall in Test cricket.

Nortje got the first breakthrough for the hosts after removing Sri Lanka skipper Dimuth Karunaratne for just two runs. He then dismissed Minod Bhanuka (5), Niroshan Dickwella (7), Dasun Shanaka (4), Dushmantha Chameera (22), and Asitha Fernando (4) to claim six wickets for 56 runs in 14.3 overs.

Apart from Nortje, 22-year-old Wiaan Mulder bagged three scalps for 25 runs in seven overs. Pacer Lutho Sipamla, who earned six ??wickets ??in the first Test, took one scalp for 27 runs in nine overs.

In reply, South Africa got off to an unsteady start as Aiden Markram was dismissed cheaply. However, Dean Elgar and Rassie van der Dussen got together t??o form an unbeaten 114 runs for the second wicket.

Elgar con??tinued from where he? left in the two-match series opener. He played at an impressive strike rate of 77.31 to score 92 not out with the help of 16 boundaries. On the other hand, van der Dussen assisted Elgar well with unbeaten 40 runs.

At stumps, South Africa posted 148/1 and are only trailing by nine runs with four days to go. Elgar, who missed out to hit century by five runs in the first Test, will be looking forward to reach triple-figure tomorrow ?morning.

The final Test of the two-match series between South Africa and Sri Lanka ??will begin from Sunday (January 3), at The Wanderers in Johannesburg.

The hosts are confident enough as they have taken 1-0 lead after smashing the visitors with an innings and 45 runs in the Centurion ??Test. Therefore, the Quinton de Kock-led side would be look?ing forward to seal the series 2-0.

On the other hand, Sri Lanka, who were hit by injuries in the first Test, would?? focus on coming with the best combination in order to bounce back and win th?e final Test.

Pitch report:

Opening the batting at Wanderers is generally a death trap as the bouncy tracks? assist seamers and sideways movement works as the additional advantage. However, the outfield is relatively quick, which might come as a relief for batters.

Head to Head record:

Match?es played: 30 | South Afri?ca: 15 | Sri Lanka: 9 | Draw: 6 | Tied: 0

Playing Combination:

South Africa

However, on Saturday, the team officials made it clear that Rabada would not be considered for the second Test as they want him to be fully fit for the upcoming series against Pakistan.

Sri Lanka

The camp’s several injuries might give Minod Bhanuka and Asitha Fernando a ch??ance to make their ??Test debuts in the Wanderers.

Kusal Perera smashed 64, and Wanindu Hasaranga scored 59 before the visitors were bundled out for 180. They resumed the fourth day at 65/2 but failed to recover after Proteas all-rounder Wiaan Mulder removed overnight batsman Dinesh Chandimal and Niroshan Dickwella in quick successions.

Earlier, Sri Lanka started the proceedings well, making 396 after winning the toss. However, an injury-depleted bowling attack en?ded up conceding 621 runs when the hosts came to bat in their first innings.

The SuperSport Park in Centurion is ready to host the much-awaited Boxing Day Test between South Africa and Sri Lanka, starting from Saturday.

Pitch and weather report:

The track in SuperSport Park is expected to be fast, bouncy and will offer swing to the seamers for? the first two days. Then the pitch might deteriorate with some up and down for the rest of the match. The thunderstorms are expected to impact the game on Day 1 in the afternoon session but only for an hour or so.
