]]>Day 1 of the 1st Test between Bangladesh and South Africa at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Dhaka saw a remarkable moment in cricketing history as Kagiso Rabada became the sixth South African bowler to join the illustrious 300 Test wickets club. His entry into this elite league places him among some of South Africa’s greatest fast bowling legends, including Dale Steyn, Shaun Pollock and Allan Donald. Rabada, known for his fierce pace and unrelenting? consistency, marked this career milestone with a delivery that could only be described as cricketing perfection.
Rabada’s 300th wicket came in the 14th over of Bangladesh’s innings, and it was an absolute beauty. Bowling to Mushfiqur Rahim, one of Bangladesh’s most seasoned batters, Rabada delivered a length ball just outside off stump that jagged back in slightly. Mushfiqur, who had looked somewhat settled after scoring 11 runs, found himself in two minds – unsure whether to play at it or leave it.
He chose to defend, but the ball sneaked through the narrow gap between his bat and pad, crashing into the stumps. It was a sight to behold, as the stumps shattered and the South African fielders erupted in celebration. This dismissal perfectly encapsulated Rabada’s brilliance – pace, control, and subtle movement. This key wicket not only ended Mushfiqur’s brief resistance but also deepened Bangladesh’s early batting woes, leaving them reeling at a critical juncture in the match.
//twitter.com/FanCode/status/1848242215291871416
By achieving 300 Test wickets in just 65 matches, Rabada became the third-fastest South African bowler to reach this prestigious landmark, only behind Steyn, who reached the milestone in 61 Tests, and Donald, who did so in 63. Rabada’s rapid rise to 300 wickets highlights his exceptional talent and consistency in the Test format, putting him in the same conversation as South Africa’s all-time great fast bowlers. His ability to produce match-winning spells in all conditions has made him one of the most feared bowlers in world cricket. Rabada’s success in Test cricket is a testament to his relentless work ethic and hunger for wickets.
The first session of the Test match belonged entirely to South Africa, with both Rabada and Wiaan Mulder causing havoc. After winning the toss and electing to bat, Bangladesh’s top-order collapse began almost immediately. Mulder, sharing the new ball with Rabada, delivered a devastating spell of fast bowling, tearing through Bangladesh’s top three batters.
In just the first over, Mulder struck, removing opener Shadman Islam for a four-ball duck with a well-directed outswinger. The early blow put Bangladesh on the back foot, and things only worsened from there. Mulder returned in his second over to claim the wicket of Mominul Haque, ??trapping him leg-before?? with a ball that straightened off the seam.
By the time Mulder removed Bangladesh’s captain Najmul Hossain Shanto with a sharp bouncer in his third over, Bangladesh were left struggling at 21/3. At the end of the first session, Bangl?adesh’s batting lineup was in tatte?rs, reduced to 60/6 with no signs of recovery in sight. Rabada and Mulder’s unrelenting pressure proved too much for the Bangladesh batters, as they failed to find any rhythm or momentum.

]]>In the ongoing One-off Test match at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Chennai, India showcased their batting prowess, amassing a monumental 603/6 before declaring their innings. Led by notable performances from their t?op-order batter, India set a dauntin??g target for South Africa right from the outset.
South Africa faced an uphill battle from the start, initially reaching 236/4 in their first innings on Day 2 but failing to capitalize further. They were eventually bowled out for 266 on Day 3, with Marizanne Kapp’s resilient 74 off 141 balls being a standout performance amidst India’s formidable bowling attack. Sneh Rana‘s exceptional spell of 8 wickets for 77 runs further underscored India’s dominance with the ball. Deepti Sharma and Harmanpreet Kaur‘s crucial wickets for India have kept the match intriguingly poised.
Forced to follow on after trailing by 327 runs, South Africa faced early setbacks with the loss of Anneke Bosch. However, captain Laura Wolvaardt and Suné Luus turned the tide with a historic partnership of 190 runs for the second wicket, the highest-ever for South Africa against any opponent. Wolvaardt anchored the innings with an unbeaten 93 off 252 balls, while Luus contributed a crucial 109 off 203 balls, showcasing resilience and determination against India’s bowling attack.
At the end of Day 3, South Africa’s second innings stood at 232/2, still trailing by 105 runs with Kapp joining Wolvaardt at the crease after the fall of Luus. The match hangs in balance as South Africa aim to potentially set a challenging target for India. The outcome of the match heavily depends on whether South Africa can build on their current partnership and avoid the collapses witnessed earlier in the game.
Not even an hour has passed and Sneh Rana has cleaned up the Proteas. She now has eight wickets in this innings and is up there with Neetu David and Ashleigh Gardner for?? most scalps in an innings.

]]>In a commanding display of batting prowess, India Women posted a formidable total of 525/4 in their first innings against South Africa Women on Day 1 of the One-off Test in Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium. Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana set ?the tone with exceptional centuries, showcasing their skill and determination on the crease.
India opted to bat first after winning the toss, with Shafali and her opening partner Smriti scripting history by forging the highest-ever opening partnership in Women’s Tests, accumulating a remarkable 292 runs in 52 overs. Shafali began her innings briskly, reaching fifty off just 60 deliveries, followed swiftly by her maiden Test century in 158 balls. Post lunch, she intensified her scoring rate, ultimately surging past the double century milestone. Meanwhile Smriti became the second-fastest Test centurion in Women’s cricket history after Shafali who achieved the milestone in the same game.
Smriti played a pivotal role in India Women’s formidable first innings total against South Africa Women. Her composed innings of 149 runs off 161 deliveries was a testament to her ability to build an innings. Smriti’s innings was highlighted by 27 boundaries, which included a mix of elegant drives and powerful strokes, showcasing her technical prowess and ability to dominate the bowling attack.
Shafali’s blazing knock of 205 runs off just 197 balls was the cornerstone of India’s imposing total. Her innings was a display of aggressive batting, marked by 23 fours and 8 towering sixes. Shafali’s ability to find gaps in the field and dispatch loose deliveries to the boundary kept the scoreboard ticking at a brisk pace. Her double century laid a solid foundation for India, providing the team with momentum and confidence throughout the innings.
After the fall of Shafali and Smriti wicket, the middle order ensured India’s dominance continued. Jemimah Rodrigues contributed a steady 55, while captain Harmanpreet Kaur remained unbeaten at 42, steering the innings towards a mammoth total. Richa Ghosh provided late fireworks, scoring a brisk 43 not out off 33 deliveries and remained not out at the close of first day’s play, accelerating the scoring rate in the final overs.
South Africa struggled to break through India’s batting lineup, with their bowlers facing a daunting challenge. Despite efforts from Delmi Tucker, who claimed two crucial wickets, the rest of the bowling attack found it tough to contain the rampant Indian batters. Nadine de Klerk w??as the only other bowler to manage a wicket, but the overall economy rates were elevated as India maintained a steady run rate throughout their innings.

]]>Shafali Verma, in a historic display of skill and determination, etched her name into the annals of cricket history during India‘s one-off Test against South Africa at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium.
On Day 1 of the match, Shafali achieved the remarkable milestone of becoming only the second Indian woman to score a double century in Test cricket. Her innings, characterized by aggressive stroke play and impeccable timing, saw her reach 205 runs off just 197 deliveries. This included an impressive tally of 23 boundaries and 8 towering sixes before an unfortunate run-out ended her innings at the striker’s end. This innings not only made her the youngest Indian to reach 500 Test runs but also the second youngest to score a Test hundred, following in the footsteps of the legendary Mithali Raj.
Shafali’s double century also set a new benchmark in women’s Test cricket, breaking the previous record for the fastest double century held by Australia‘s Annabel Sutherland, achieved in 248 balls earlier in 2024 against South Africa. She joined a select group of cricketers, becoming only the second Indian and the tenth overall to achieve this milestone in women’s Tests.
Batting first after India won the toss, Shafali and her opening partner Smriti Mandhana created history by setting the record for the highest opening partnership in Women’s Tests, amassing an impressive 292 runs off 52 overs. Shafali’s fifty came off 60 balls, followed swiftly by her maiden Test century off 158 deliveries. In the post-lunch session, she accelerated her scoring rate to reach the double century mark.
Despite Mandhana’s dismissal, Shafali continued to dominate the South African bowling attack, displaying her attacking prowess until an unfortunate run-out ended her innings just short of Mithali’s record of 248 runs. Despite the disappointment of falling short of another milestone, Shafali received a warm ovation from the Chepauk crowd for her extraordinary achievement.

]]>In a display of exceptional batting prowess, the Indian women’s cricket team asserted their dominance on the Day 1 of the one-off Test match against South Africa in Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium. Both Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana shone brightly with remarkable centuries, laying a solid foundation for India’s innings.
Shafali opened with aggression and precision, reaching her century with 17 boundaries and 2 sixes, boasting a striking strike rate of 87.40. Verma’s fearless approach from the outset put India in a commanding position early on. She also made history by smashing the fastest century in Women’s Tests, achieving the milestone in just 113 balls, breaking the previous record of 137 balls set by Janette Brittin in 1984. Verma’s aggressive batting set the tone for India’s innings.
Smriti complemented Verma’s attacking style with a composed century of her own. Her innings included 21 fours, maintaining a solid strike rate of 80.29. Following Shafali, Smriti reached her century off 122 balls, placing her second on the list of fastest centuries in Women’s Tests.
Shafali and Smriti combined to record the highest opening partnership for India Women in Tests during this match. Their ongoing unbeaten partnership surpassed their own previous record of 167 runs against England in Bristol in 2021. T??heir cohesive batting display demoralized the South A?frican bowling attack and put India in a commanding position.
Led by captain Harmanpreet Kaur‘s decision to bat first, India capitalized on the absence of injured players like Yastika Bhatia with Richa Ghosh taking over wicketkeeping duties. The team opted for a spin-heavy attack, featuring Deepti Sharma, Sneh Rana and Rajeshwari Gayakwad, supported by seamers Renuka Singh and Pooja Vastrakar.
On the other hand, South Africa introduced fast bowler Annerie Dercksen to Test cricket, while Sinalo Jafta returned as wicketkeeper. The team faced setbacks with players like Tazmin Brits and Eliz-Mari Marx ruled out due to illness, relying on Nonkululeko Mlaba as their lead spinner.
Top ton for Shafali. Hopefully first of the many she end????s up scoring.

]]>The Indian women’s cricket team cruised to a comfortable six-wicket victory over South Africa in the third and final ODI at Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Sunday (June 23). Led by Smriti Mandhana‘s record-laden innings and Deepti Sharma‘s impressive bowling performance, India registered a series clean sweep. Mandhana’s commanding presence with the bat and Sharma’s crucial contributions highlighted India’s dominance throughout the match, underscoring their superiority in the series.
India, having already secured the series, made strategic changes to their lineup for the final match. Priya Punia returned to international cricket in place of Dayalan Hemalatha, while Shreyanka Patil replaced Asha Sobhana. South Africa also made one change, bringing in Tumi Sekhukhune for Masabata Klaas.
Opting to bat first after winning the toss, South African captain Laura Wolvaardt continued her remarkable form, anchoring the innings with yet another fifty-plus score. Despite her efforts, the Indian bowling attack, led by the crafty spinner Deepti and the emerging talent Arundhati Reddy, struck at crucial intervals to stymie South Africa’s progress. Their disciplined bowling restricted South Africa to 215/8 in their allotted 50 overs, preventing them from accelerating in the later stages of the innings.
India’s response to the target was anchored by opener Mandhana, who had already showcased her prowess with two centuries earlier in the series. Mandhana played a pivotal role once again, crafting a fluent innings of 90 runs off just 83 deliveries. Her partnership with the experienced Harmanpreet Kaur, who contributed a steady 42 runs, provided the necessary stability to India’s chase. Together, they guided the team to achieve the target comfortably, with six wickets in hand and a significant 56 balls to spare, showcasing India’s depth and adaptability in their batting lineup.
