India’s T20 specialist Suryakumar Yadav has received a lot of praise from all active and ex-cricketers for his batting exploits. Australia great Tom Moody has also jumped in to compliment the world’s no. 1 T20I batter and hailed him as Sir Vivian Richards.

In India’s series-clinching victory against Sri Lanka, Surya??kumar?? smashed a brilliant ton in the final T20I of three match-series. He became only the second Indian after Rohit Sharma to score three or more centuries ?in the? shortest format and the fifth overall cricketer to achieve the feat.

Notably, Surya scored his first and second centuries in  T20Is against England and New Zealand, respectively.

Suryakumar was appointed as the vice-captain of Team India before the T20I series against Sri Lanka, and he has retained the position for the upcoming New Zealand series. The right-handed batter is also part of India’s ODI team and got his maiden Test call-up for the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2023.

SKY made his ?debut for India in 2021 and has played 16 ODIs and 45 T20Is so far. He was the leading run scorer in the shortest format in 2022, with 1164 runs to his name in 31 inning??s. The 32-year-old was also the third-highest run-getter at the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia.

In an interview to Sports Tak, tal??king ab??out his favourite T20I batter, Moody named Suryakumar as his choice.

“Suryakumar Yadav. Just the way he plays, it’s breathtaking. It reminds me so much of… when I was a young cricketer, watching the likes of Vivian Richards. The player who just seems to be in control of the game single-handedly,” said Moody.

The 57-year-old has also been part of the Indian Premier League (IPL) as the head coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).

Throughout his cricketing career, Kumar Sangakkara mesmerized the cricketing fandom with his sheer artistry and elegance. There are very ?few sights in cricket more aesthetic and pleasurable than witnessing the free-flowing, flamboyant Sangakkara at his best.

Sangakkara never hammered the bowlers. Instead, he killed them slowly with a perfect blend of flair, mastery and the ease with which he pierced the?? ball through the gaps.

Arguably the greatest ever batsman to emerge from a tiny island nation, Sanga is a gem of a person in real life too. He knows the responsibility a person of his stature carries beyond the periphery of the cricket gro?und. And therefore, he can be often heard talking eloquently about systemic injustices on oppressed minorities, advocating peace and communal harmony in his country.

In his ‘Q&A’ session with fans on Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) official Twitter handle, Sangakkara was asked to name his favourite batsmen.

The current MCC president un??hesitatingly went ahead with Brian Lara and Vivian Richards.

“It was Sir Viv Richards up until Brian Lara came around â€?since then they shared an equal importance on my list,” Sangakkara replied.

“Sir Viv Richards and Brian Lara were my batting heroes. I’d say the 1996 Sri Lanka World-Cup winning side inspired me to play international cricket too,” he added.

Sangakkara further revealed the bowlers whom he found tough to face. He named Pakistan’s legend Wasim Akram and Zaheer Khan from India.

“Wasim Akram, was a nightmare to face. Zaheer Khan I faced many times and was extremely difficult also,” he said.

The Sri Lankan legend played 133 Test matches for his nation and scored 12,310 runs at an astounding average of 57.79. He smashed 3??8 Test centuries and 51 half-centuries in his cricketing career.

S???angakkara ranks sixth in the least of leading run-getters in Test cricket. While in ODIs, he is second only to the iconic Sachin Tendulkar.

In a recent interaction, ‘Little Master’ Sunil Gavaskar has claimed that Indian captain Virat Kohli bats exactly like former West Indiesâ€?great Vivian Richards.

Gavaskar made such claims while reiterating his experiences during India’s maiden World Cup-winning campaign in 1983.

During the era Sunny played in, We?st Indies were a dominant force and popularly acclaimed as world-beaters.

But, Richards gained all the limelight due to his batting masterclass which was detailed by Sun?n?y, who witnessed it first-hand.

“It was challenging to keep Viv Richards quiet when he was at the crease,” Gavaskar said on Star Sports’ show ‘Winning the Cup — 1983’.

Kohli added another feather to his cap by coppin?g huge praises from Gavaskar who compared his bat??ting with the Antiguan.

“Similarly, if you look at Virat Kohli‘s batting today, in the same ball and same line. He will use his top hand and score a boundary towards the extra cover region and will use the bottom hand and score a boundary towards the mid-on and mid-wicket region,” Sunny added.

Kohli, ??over the years, went on to endors?e a positive style of batting even in Test cricket and is often known to have more than a couple of shots in the bag for the same delivery.

“That’s why Virat Kohli is considered as the No. 1 player because he bats exactly like Viv Richards. Earlier, Gundappa Vishwanath, V.V.S. Laxman used to bat like this,” he said.

Back then, Richards batted at a blistering strike-rate and was believed to be a player ahead of his time. Many even affirmed that Richards would have loved T??20 cricket, as his batting style was tailor-made for the format.

“I always felt I was good enough to be competing, and I wanted to express myself in the best way that I can/ I see that little similarity in you and that same passion in you. There are times when folks would look at us and say, ‘Wow, why are they so angry’.” Richards told Kohli when India toured West Indies in August 2019.
