The Champions Trophy 2025 is just around the corner as the cricketing community gears for an action-packed limited over cricket action. Shane Watson, currently the ICC ambassador for the Champions Trophy has opened up on the Indian team not coming to Pakistan for the prestigious tournament.

Shane Watson shares his perspective on India’s reluctance to go to Pakistan

India had shared their unwillingness to go to the neighbouring country citing security reasons. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), initially not ready to negotiate a neutral venue for India’s matches in the tournament, had to sit with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Later on and the two boards, along with the International Cricket Council (ICC) reached a consensus that the two nations would be playing the ICC fixtures on neutral venues. This paved the way for India’s matches for the upcoming Champions Trophy to be held in Dubai.

Expressing his take on the whole matter, Watson opined in a press conferenc??e that he finds it unfortunate that the Indian team would not be travelling to Pakistan for the tournament.

“It’s unfortunate that things have worked out that way for sure. But there’s no doubt that what everyone loves seeing â€?the India-Pakistan games. Whenever they come together, whether it’s an ICC event, it is a really special time because we’ve got a sense of what’s on the line,â€?/em> Watson said.

Watson confident of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s return to form

Sharing his thoughts on the Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s poor form in Test Cricket owing to their horrible display with the bat in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar T?rophy 2024-25, Watson further said that he is confident that the two Indian batters would eventually return back to their usual momentum.

“I don’t think it will really play a part at all with Rohit Sharma and Virat’s impact in one-day cricket. It’s going to be different conditions where they’re playing in Dubai. One-day cricket does really free them both as well,â€?/em> the former Australian batter further noted.

India is set to play its matches in the Champions Trophy in Dubai. The Indian team is pooled in Group A with Pakistan, New Zealand and Bangladesh while Group B includes Afghanistan, South Africa, England, and Australia. The final of the tournament is set to take place in Lahore. However, if the Indian team qualifies, the fi??nals will also be held in Dubai.

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) are experiencing an extraordinary season in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Led by Pat Cummins, the team has advanced to the final of the lucrative leagu?e and is determined to secure the p?restigious title.

With the final showdown between SRH and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) drawing closer, numerous sports personalities have offered valuable advice to both teams regarding their game plans and on-field strategies. Adding his insights to the discussion, Suresh Raina has also ??contributed suggestions for the 201?6 IPL champions.

Suresh Raina’s vital suggestion for SRH

During a discussion with Jio Cinema, Raina advised SRH to choose batting first in the game and set a formidable total. He highlighted the potential pressure KKR’s spinners could exert on SRH’s batters during 8 overs. The former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) player underscored Cummins’ proficiency as the team captain in implementing game strategies and handling the dressing room. Concluding his remarks, the 37-year-old stated that the Hyderabad players are well-aware of their roles, ensuring smooth organization during the match.

“Sunrisers should back their batting first approach and put runs on the board, but the eight overs of spin will be crucial. With KKR having won an IPL in Chennai, the pressure will be different. The key point for SRH is Pat Cummins who has already won the World Cup, he knows how to keep the dressing room running. You follow the process, you are switched on for the finals, the players know their roles, and everything will be organized,” Raina said on Jio Cinema, as quoted by F??irstpost.

Shane Watson cites what advantage will SRH have in the Final

Joining Raina in the discussion, Shane Watson emphasized that SRH hold an advantage due to their familiarity with the conditions at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, enabling them to understand the pitch’s behaviour. The former Australian cricketer advised SRH to swiftly replenish their mental and physical energy during the game. However, Watson acknowledged that KKR possessed a higher likelihood of securing victory??, given their lineup comprising top-tier players.

“It gives Sunrisers an edge for sure as they know how the wicket plays, especially when there is no dew. They will have to back-up, and regenerate their mental and physical energy quickly, but for me, KKR are the favourites. They are fresh as a daisy; they have got world-class players through their team, and they are going to be very hard to defeat,” Watson stated.

Former Australian cricketing legend Shane Watson has raised poignant concerns regarding the fortunes of his erstwhile Indian Premier League (IPL) outfit, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), as they endeavor to acquire a? coveted playoffs berth in the ongoing 2024 campaign.

Setback against Punjab Kings

CSK’s aspirations for playoff contention suffered a considerable setback in their recent fixture on Wednesday (May 1), as they succumbed to a significant seven-wicket defeat against Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the iconic MA Chidambaram Stadium. Notably, this marked CSK’s second home defeat this season. After being invited to bat first, the reigning champions managed a respectable score of 162/7 in their allotted 20 overs, with only skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad showcasing fortitude with the willow. Despite setting a challenging target, PBKS, led by their resilient batters, chased down the ??total with 11 balls to spare.

Shane Watson’s concerns for Chennai Super Kings

Despite currently occupying a spot in the top four of the IPL 2024 points table, CSK finds themselves teetering on the edge, ??where a??ny further slip-ups could prove catastrophic. With a tally of five wins and an equal number of defeats, CSK are in the dire need of a formidable winning streak to advance to the next phase.

While uncertainties abound for the five-time champions, Watson foresees a daunting journey ahead for his former team. Watson pointedly emphasized the litany of injury setbacks that have beset CSK of late, with Matheesha Pathirana and Tushar Deshpande sideli?ned from the recent PBKS encounter due to injury and illness, respectively.

“Certainly. That’s not an easy run home. The things that compound it are their injury worries and their bowling stocks. That’s going to be the biggest challenge that they would have to face CSK. There were moments throughout this tournament where it looked like they had no weakness and no holes,” Watson said on JioCinema.

Looking ahead with uncertainty

During the game, CSK suffered another big blow when Deepak Chahar walked out off the field after bowling just two balls. CSK are also set to lose the services of Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman for the remainder of the tournament as the fast-bowler will return home for the T20I series against Zimbabwe.

“Then we have seen at certain times that holes have appeared and now, because of the injuries and concerns they have, Mustafizur Rahman has played his last game. There’s going to have to be a lot of shuffling around, something that CSK aren’t known for. They have had so much success in the past with continuity through their playing group. There’s going to be a lot of talks around making best of the combinations available, for the run home,” the 42-year-old concluded.

A thrilling encounter unfolded in the 31st match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) at Eden Gardens on Tuesday. KKR, after being asked to bat first, set a daunting target of 224 runs thanks to a phenomenal century by Sunil Narine (109 runs off 56 balls). However, RR had other plans as their star batter, Jos Buttler (107 runs off 60 balls), also smashed a century to take his team over the f?inish ??line.

Narine, who scored his maiden T20 Hundred in the first innings, also shined with the ball. The Trinidadian picked up two wickets for 30 runs in his quota of four overs. With that, Narine achieved a special feat in the cash-rich league. He became one of the few players in IPL history to score a hundred and take a wicket in a single game. Let’s have a look at five such instances when a player scored a hundred and took a wicket in a single IPL game.

1- 2011, RCB vs PBKS, Bengaluru:

Chris Gayle, the “Universe Boss,” lived up to his name with a truly phenomenal display in the IPL. He entered the history books by becoming the first player to score a century (107 runs) and claim a three-wicket haul (3/21) in the same match. This all-around brilliance propelled Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to a dominant victory over Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Bengaluru in 2011.

2- 2013, RCB vs PWI, Bengaluru:

Two years later, Gayle did it again for RCB. This time, his unbeaten 175* was even more brutal, and his two wickets (2/5) further dented Pune Warriors India’s (PWI) hopes as RCB emerged victorious once? more at their home ground in B??engaluru.

3- 2015, RR vs KKR, Brabourne:

Shane Watson, the Australian all-rounder, carved his name into IPL history during his time with RR in 2015. He became part of an elite group by scoring a scintillating century (104 runs) and taking two wickets (2/38) in the same encounter against KKR at the Brabourne Stadium. Watson’s all-around display played a pivotal role in securing a win for RR.
