India’s fast bowler Mohammed Shami made his much-awaited comeback to professional cricket after a year-long injury hiatus, playing for Bengal in the Ranji Trophy against Madhya Pradesh at the Holkar Stadium in Indore on Wednesday.

Bengal’s struggles and Mohammed Shami’s return

Madhya Pradesh won the toss and opted to field first, leaving Bengal in a difficult position early on. Bengal were reduced to 33/3 and 79/5, with no significant partnerships forming until Shahbaz Ahmed and captain Anustup Majumdar put on 96 for the sixth wicket. Shahbaz top-scored with a valuable 92, he??lping Bengal reach a total of 228 all out.

As the evening session beg??an on day one, all eyes were on Shami, who was making his first appearance since the 2023 World Cup final against Australia on November 19. It also marked his return to first-class cricket since playing in the World Test Championship final? against Australia in June of the same year.

Shami opened the bowling?? for Bengal, but it was clear that he was still finding his rhythm after a long layoff. While he managed to get a few deliveries to beat the bat and sent down a couple of sharp bouncers, there were also some loose deliveries, including wide balls, which indicated his rustiness.

Injury concerns and future plans

Apart from his bowling, spectators noticed Shami appearing to have trouble with his left ankle during the match. His fitness will be closely monitored, with India keen on ensuring that he doesn’t rush back into the national setup too quickly. Despite not being named in the squad for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Shami’s successful comeback could potentially see him make a late inclusion for the latter half of the series, provided his fitness improves.

Shami’s impact on Day 2

Although Shami went wicketless on the first day, he played a crucial role on the morning of day two (November 14), helping trigger a collapse for Madhya Pradesh. He finished with impressive figures of 19-4-54-4, proving his worth with the ball and showing glimpses of the bowler who has been a key fi??gure for India in the past.

Shami’s return to competitive cricket after an injury break is an encouraging sign, and fans and selectors alike will be watching closely as he looks to regain his full form in the coming weeks.

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) booked their place in the final of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 after a thumping win again??st Rajasthan Royals (RR) at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Friday. The Sunrisers will now face Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the summit clash of the ongoing season.

Heinrich Klaasen powers SRH to a competitive total

Sunrisers Hyderabad put up a challenging total of 175 for 9 in their allotted 20 overs. The innings was anchored by Heinrich Klaasen, who scored a crucial 50 off 34 balls, including 4 sixes. As the deadline for retention and trading in the Indian Premier League (IPL) approaches its closure, there has been a sudden surge in activity among franchises. The latest development involves a trade between two southern powerhouses, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

Sunrisers Hyderabad acquires Shahbaz Ahmed in exchange for Mayank Dagar

An official IPL Media advisory on Sunday morning confirmed that Sunrisers have traded Mayank Dagar to the Challengers in exchange for all-rounder Shahbaz Ahmed. Dagar, who was acquired by SRH for INR 1.8 crore last year, is now part of the RCB roster, while Shahbaz, secured by RCB in the 2022 auction for INR 2.4 crore, will don the SunRisers’ colors in the upcoming season.

Player performance overview

Dagar played three games for SRH in the previous season without making significant contributions. In contrast, Shahbaz featured in 10 matches for RCB, with modest suc??cess. Shahbaz boasts a total of 39 IPL appearances with 14 wickets to his name and a best bowling figure of 3/7.

In the 13th match of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, Royal Challengers?? Bangal??ore (RCB) defeated Rajasthan Royals (RR) in a thrilling contest at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday.

Chasing 170, RCB started decently with openers Faf du Plessis and Anuj Rawat, adding 48 runs in the powerplay without any trouble. But in the very next over, Yuzvendra Chahal, the ex?-RCB player, broke the 55-run stand by dismissing Du Plessis (29).

RR didn’t allow to shift the momentum and picked up four more wickets in quick successions to reduce the Challengers to 87/5 in 12.3 overs. It appeared that the RCB had again lost the plot while chasing, but a twist in the tale was waiting to shock the fans.

Experienced campaigner Dinesh Karthik and all-rounder Shahbaz Ahmed turned the tables around with quickfire knocks. The pair went on to add 67 runs for the sixth wicket to almost bring down the equation to run-a-ball. Trent Boult broke the partners??hip by dismissing Shahbaz for a well-made 45 off 26 balls, including 4 fours and three sixes.

Kart??hik??, however, stayed till the end to make sure he took RCB home. He smashed an unbeaten 44 off 23 balls, with the help of eight boundaries, including a maximum.

Earlier, another scintillating batting display by Jos Buttler helped Rajasthan reach a competitive total. RR lost opener Yashasvi Jaiswal (4) early in the second over, but then Buttler and Devdutt Padikkal partnered to steady the innings.

The duo added a crucial stand of 70 runs for the second wicket before Harshal Patel broke the partnership by removing Padikkal (37) in the 10th over. Soon, the Royals lost captain Sanju Samson (8) to get reduced to 86/3 in 11.4 overs.

But Buttler held his end and kept on tickling the scoreboard. The English batter smashed a brilliant unbeaten 70 run knock off 47 deliveries with the help of 6 sixes. Buttler formed an undefeated partnership of 83 runs for the fourth wicket with Shimron Hetmyer to take RR to 169/3 in 20 overs. Hetmyer chipped in with a valuable 42 not out from 31 deliveries, in??cluding 4 fours and a couple of maximums.

On Wednesday, Shahbaz Ahmed delivered a match-winning performance that guided the Royal Challengers Bangalore(RCB) to a na??il-biting win over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Asked to bat first, the RCB batting order was restricted to a total of 149 for 8 wickets in 20 overs. Virat Kohli managed to hit 33 but was caught by Vijay Shanker on Jason Holderโ€™s delivery, whereas Rashid Khan sent AB de Villiers back to the pavilion.

However, Glenn Maxwell made another brilliant impression with a 41-ball 59. He provided the much-needed stimulation in the mid??dle overs and stayed at the cre??ase till the final over, hitting 3 sixes and 5 fours.

Defending the total, Ahmad turned the match upside down by dismissing well set Manish Pandey (38) Jonny Bairstow (12) and Abdul Samad (0) in one over. Ba??irstow was caught by De Villiersโ€?trying to play a slog-sweep, whereas Pandey was caught by Harshal Patel on the extra cover on the following ball, Samad soon hit the ball straight into the hands of the bowler. SRH lost the game by 6 runs in th??e end.

Meanwhile, the Royal Challengers had gained some momentum after winning their previous match against Mumbai Indians(MI) in a close encounter that went down to the last ball. The key player of RCBโ€™s bowling line up, Harshal Patel, sent back Vijay Shankar and Mohammed Siraj got Jason Holder caught at long-off in the 19th over. The win also took RCB to th?e top of t?he table.

RCB pacer Siraj in the post-match interview said: โ€?em> Shahbaz had been performing excellently in the practice matches and so he was able to secure his position in the team replacing Rajat Patidar. The pitch at Chennai was slow and turning, so the captain suggested to use the left-arm spinner Shahbaz as there were both right-hand batsmen on the creaseโ€?

โ€?em>Things went as planned as Shahbaz managed to pick up three wickets in the second over of his spell which helped us progress towards winning the match,โ€?he added.

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) continued their winning momentum in theย  ongoing IPL 2021 as they defeated Sunrisers Hydera??bad (SRH) by 6 runs on We??dnesday.

Chasing a paltry target of 150, Sunrisers were in a good position after David Warner and Manish Pandey put the team in a strong position by adding 83 runs for the second wicket. Warner scored 54 off 37 balls at a strike rate of close to 146 before Kyle Jamieson dismissed him in the 14th over.

The dismissal of Warner followed a massive collapse as the 2016 champions could only manage ?to reach 14??3/9 in their 20 overs.

RCB spinner Shahbaz Ahmed turned the game on its head when he came to bowl the 17th over. The left-armer picked up three wickets in that over and inspired his side to make a comeback in the game. He sent Jonny Bairstow (12), Pandey (38) and Abdul Samad (0) to complete his three-wicket feat.

Earlier, Glenn Maxwell displayed his top-quality batting and smashed a much-needed half-century. The RCB power-hitter scored 59 from 41 deliveries packed with five fours and three humungous s?ixes.

Apart from Maxi, skipper Virat Kohli also made a valuable contribution as RCB posted 149/8 on the board. Kohli scored 33 ??off 29 balls with the help of four boundaries.
