The eagerly awaited 11th edition of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2023 is poised to kick off on August 16, marking the commencement of another thrilling season of Twenty20 cricket. Established by Cricket West Indies in 2013, the CPL has evolved into a prominent ann??ual cricketing event that captures t??he spirit of the Caribbean and enthralls fans worldwide.

With its action-packed matches and electrifying performances, the CPL has become a major highlight in the cricket calendar. This year, a total of six teams will be partaking in the tournament, engaging in a total of 34 matches. The participating teams include the Saint Lucia Kings (SLK), Jamaica Tallawahs (JMT), Barbados Royals (BBR), Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR), St Kitts and Nevis Patriots (SKN) and Guyana Amazon Warriors (GAW).

The Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium will set the stage for the tournament’s opening clash between the SLK and the JMT. As the competition unfolds, cricket enthusiasts can anticipate a series of high-stakes battles, strategic gameplay, and exceptional cricketing skills.

The tournament is set to transpire across five venues and it will follow the familiar format of a round-robin league phase, followed by the Eliminator, Qualifiers 1 and 2, and ultimately culminating in the final. The grand finale of CPL 2023 is slated to take place at the Providence Stadium on September 25, where the two most formidable teams will vie for the presti?gious title.

The majority of the league matches, a total of 30, will be hosted by five of the six teams: SLK, SKN, BBR, TKR and GAW. Furthermore, Guyana will play host to the playoffs. While the defending champions, JMT, won’t be hosting any matches in this edition, the competition remains fierce.

TKR have a commendable record with four CPL titles to their name, making them a team to watch out for. JMT have clinched the title thrice, BBR twice, and SKN once. As for Saint Lucia and Guyana, they’re still vying for their first CPL championship.

In what comes as a significant development within the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the decision-maker?s are divided 3-2 when it comes to the venue for t??he 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). While the matter is heavily tilted in favour of hosting the tournament in the country, some team-owners want to take it outside if needed.

Also, players across the globe have been vocal about looking forward to playing in the IPL now that it is almost certain that Cricket Australia (as per their mail to the ICC) is not in a p?osition to?? host the T20 World Cup in October-November as per initial schedule.

There are countries w?here COVID-19 is not present at all, or the cases are very few in number. Hence those countries could get a chance to host IPL 2020. Here are the top 3 candidates.

Here are the three countries which can host IPL 2020 if it is moved outside India:

1.) Barbados

While the entire United States of America (USA) is worried about coronavirus pandemic, Barbados – the eastern Caribbean island – is free from the COVID-19. Since many matches of Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2020 will be played at the two stadiums of Barbados, IPL officials could consider moving the tournament to this Caribbean Island this year. Besides, two-three IPL teams hold stakes in the franchises of the CPL. Thus, it will help them in the marketing process as well.

2.) Sri Lanka

The neighbouring country of India is the frontrunner in this race because unlike Barbados, there will not be a completely different time zone in Sri Lanka. The time difference is pretty less which would allow the IPL Governing Council to host matches as per the Indian fans’ convenience. The island nation has less than 350 active cases as of now. Therefore, BCCI could seriously consider Sri Lanka as one of the venues for IPL 2020.

3.) Saint Kitts and Nevis

Similar to Barbados, Saint Kitts and Nevis – a dual island nation situated between the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea – has now become free from the deadly coronavirus. There were as many as 15 cases in Saint Kitts and Nevis earlier, but since last week, no positive case has been recorded in the island nation.

Another reason which would drive BCCI to conduct the tournament in Barbados or Saint Kitts an??d Nevis is that the West Indies Cricket Board (CWI) has a good relat??ion with BCCI.
