With the South African T20 tournament, SA20, on the horizon, MI Cape Town have unveiled their coaching staff in preparation for th??e upcoming season. The franchise,?? which had a challenging run in the previous edition of the tournament, is gearing up for a fresh start under the guidance of their newly appointed coaching team.

Robin Peterson takes the helm as Head Coach

MI Cape Town have entrusted former South African cricketer Robin Peterson with the role of head coach. Peterson, who previously served as the General Manager for the team in 2023, brings a wealth of ?experience and insight to the coaching position.

Under his leadership, the franchise aims to overcome the setbacks of the previous season when they finished at the bottom of the table with three wins in ten matches. Peterson has succeeded Simon Katich, who held the head coach position in th?e previous? season.

Lasith Malinga joins as Bowling Coach

Former Sri Lankan fast-bowling sensation Lasith Malinga has been welcomed into the MI Cape Town coaching setup as the bowling coach. Malinga takes over from former New Zealand all-rounder Jacob Oram, and his expertise in the art of pace and?? swing is expected to be an invaluable asset to the team.

Hashim Amla continues as Batting Coach

Hashim Amla, the former South African cricketer known for his elegant strokeplay and impeccable technique, will continue in his role as the batting coach for MI Cape Town. Amla’s guidance and mentorship will be crucial for the team’s batsmen as they aim to deliver match-winning performances in the SA20 season.

Notably, MI Cape Town have retained a core group of players ahead of the SA20 auction. This includes Rashid Khan, the dynamic Afghan cricketer who captained the team in the previous season, along with star players like Kagiso Rabada, Dewald Brevis, and Sam Curran.

It is worth noting that both Peterson and Malinga were integral parts of MI New York’s title-winning campaign in the inaugural season of the USA’s Major League Cricket (MLC) earlier this year. Peterson served as the head coach, while Malinga took on the role of the bowling coach. Their experience in guiding a team to success in MLC bodes well for MI Cape Town’s aspirations in the SA20 season.

betvisa888 liveSA20 2023 – Cricket Times - betvisa888 bet //betvisa68.com/2023/08/dean-elgar-lashes-out-at-cricket-south-africa-for-prioritizing-sa20-at-the-expense-of-test-cricket/ Sat, 19 Aug 2023 12:49:10 +0000 //betvisa68.com/?p=91669

Dean Elgar is known for his confident demeanor, his willingness to back up his words with actions, and his tendency to openly express his opinions on matters related to cricket. The former captain of South Africa has not hesitated to criticize Cricket South Africa (CSA) for prioritizing their ??newly established T20 franchi?se league at the expense of Test cricket.

In February 2024, South Africa is poised to face New Zealand in a two-games Test series, which holds significance as part of the World Test Championship 2023-2025. The fixtures are scheduled to take plac??e on F??ebruary 4, 2024.

However, recent reports have indicated that South Africa’s Test squad for this series might not include their premier players. This decision stems from the release of the schedule for the upcoming SA20 season. Cricket South Africa’s CEO, Pholetsi Moseki, has confirmed to AFP Johanessburg, that none of the players who are under contract with various SA20 franchises will be part of the Proteas’ squad for the Test series against New Zealand.

“It is a directive of Cricket South Africa. Because of the time zones, players need at least a week to acclimatise in New Zealand so it will not be possible for some SA20 players to join the team for at least the second Test,” Moseki said

The forthcoming SA20 season is slated to kick off on January 10 and culminate with the final match on February 10. Nevertheless, the timing of this T20 league overlaps with the Test series against New Zealand, creating a dilemma for South Africa’s cricketing authorities.

Elgar slams CSA’s approach towards test cricket

In an interview with City Press, Elgar candidly shared his thoughts on this matter. He acknowledges the difficulty in coming to terms with this reality and emphasizes the adverse impact on players. The 36-year-old also delves into the deeper implications of CSA’s stance on Test cricket. He suggests that the cricket board’s priorities and decisions are reflected in their treatment of Test games.

“It’s tough to take. It shows what the narrative is when it comes to Test cricket, and again it’s the players who suffer. A high percentage of the players still r??eally want to play Test cricket, and it’s just extremely sad and clari?fies a lot of things when it comes to how Test cricket is viewed by the authorities,?/em> Elgar said.

That could cause a breakdown in the relationship

The former Test captain does not hold back in expressing his displeasure with CSA’s plan to send a third-string team to New Zealand for the Test series. Elgar believes that this approach could potentia??lly strain the cricketing relationship between the two nations.

“We can’t butter ou??r bread on both sides here. It’s lekker to have the franchise T20 comp??etition, but what’s the bigger picture? How would New Zealand Cricket, with whom we probably have the strongest relationship of all countries, view us sending a ‘C?side over there? That could cause a breakdown in the relationship,?/em> the Walkom-born cricketer concluded.

South Africa’s future in test cricket: Challenges and prospects

While South Africa may not have been part of the traditional “Big Three” cricketing nations, their Test cricket prowess has always been noteworthy. In the upcoming years of 2024, 2025, and 2026, South Africa is scheduled to play a total of nine Test matches annually. This is a quantity that aligns more with their historical Test cricket schedule. Nonetheless, there are uncertainties and considerations about the state of their Test cricket game when they reach this point.

The much-anticipated second season of the SA20 is poised to captivate c??ricket fans as it kicks off in Gqeberha on January 10, 2024, and will conclude with an exciting Final a month later on February 10, 2024.

This cricket extravaganza promises riveting action as each of the six participating teams will host a home match during the opening week of the tournament. The season will encompass a total of 34 matches, played across six prominent venues in South Africa.

A notew?orthy feature of the schedule is the consistency in start times. Midweek clashes will commence at 17:30 local time, creating an optimal evening atmosphere for spectators and viewers. Additionally, matches scheduled for Sundays will begin slightly earlier, at 15:30 local time.

As part of the organizational strategy, double headers will exclusively take place on Saturdays, offering an action-packed day for fans to relish. This?? condensed format ensures audiences are treated to back-to-back, thrilling encounters on weekends.

Structure of playoffs changed

While th?e tournament structure remains consistent with the inaugural season, where each of the six teams confronts all others twice, the playoffs format has ??been altered.

In the second season, the SA20 will embrace the qualifier-eliminator approach. The top two teams from the league stage will vie in the ?first qualifier, with the victor directly securing a place in the final. Simultaneously, the teams placed third and fourth will engage in an eliminator, seeking a chance to progress.

A mini-auction for the 2024 edition has been scheduled ??for September 27, 2023??.

Meanwhile, James Neesham grabbed three wickets for PC and guided his team to victory. Anrich Nortje also picked up a wicket for PC in the contest.

On the third ball of the 4th over, Nortje delivered a 152 km/hr ripper to dismiss Jason Roy. The 29-year-old pacer bowled a lightening angled-in delivery to Roy which the right-handed batter failed to get his bat onto and was found Leg Before Wicket (LBW) by the on-field umpire Marais Erasmus.

“Am really enjoying every single moment (in SA20). The home ground of MI Cape Town at Newlands is a special place (for us). We already had special memories (here),” Brevis concluded.

Sunrisers Eastern Cape (SEC) faced Durban Super Giants (DSG) in match no. 19 of SA20 at St George’s Park in Gqeberha on Sunday (January 22).

Asked to bat first, SEC put up a mammoth total of 210 for the loss of just two wickets with the help of Adam Rossington‘s storming 72 runs off 30 deliveries. Jordan Hermann (59) and Aiden Markram (44) also contributed to the team’s total. Meanwhile, Dwaine Pretorius was the only bowler for DSG to pick up a wicket.

After Rossington’s explosive outing, Tristan Stubbs came in to bat at no. 4 and scored a quickfire 27 off 13 deliveries. On the second ball of the 19th over, Stubbs smashed a massive six off Wiaan Mulder, and the ball went up so high in the air that even spi??der cam failed to keep track of it after a certain point of t??ime.

Wiaan bowled an off-side in slot delivery to Stubbs, which the 22-year-old batter read well and smacked with a lightning bat flow over the long-on fence for a six. The crowd was astonished to see the biggie by Stubbs, and one of the commentators was heard saying, “Tristian Stubbs sends this one into orbit!”

Here’s the video:

Put in to bat first, the Royals had a shaky start as they lost both their openers with just 18 runs on board.
