In a high-scoring encounter between Gujarat Titans (GT) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the IPL 2024, David Miller‘s exceptional fielding skill was on display as he executed a brilliant run out of Rachin Ravindra.

David Miller’s brilliance to run out Rachin Ravindra

In the first over of the CSK run chase at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium, Umesh Yadav delivered a ball on off-stump to Ajinkya Rahane. Ravindra, at the non-striker’s end, responded to Rahane’s call for a run, attempting to steal a quick single. However, Miller, positioned at backward point, swiftly collected the ball and threw it underarm with pinpoint accuracy, hitting the stumps directly at the bowler’s end. Ravindra was caught short of his crease, resulting in him walking back to the pavilion for just 1 run. The dismissal showcased Miller’s exceptional fielding prowess and cricketing intelligence.

Despite the early setback, CSK fought hard but fell short in their chase of GT’s imposing total of 231/3. Daryl Mitchell’s valiant effort with the bat, scoring 63 runs, and Moeen Ali‘s brisk 56 runs were not enough as CSK could only manage 196/8 in their allotted 20 overs.

Gujarat Titans keep their playoff hopes alive

GT’s victory was anchored by stellar performances from Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan, who both scored c??????????????????????????enturies, guiding their ?team to a formidable total.

With this victory, G?T have moved up to the eighth position in the IPL 2024 points table, keeping their playoff hopes alive. They will now look forward to their next fixture against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the same venue.

On the other hand, CSK will have a quick turnaround as they head home to face Rajasthan Royals (RR) in their upcoming match.

Matthew Forde and Roston Chase involve in a run-out debacle

The 21st over of the West Indies innings witnessed a crucial mix-up between Forde and Chase. It all began with substitute fielder Mckenzie Harvey‘s athletic stop to Forde’s mistimed pull shot at deep mid-wicket. As Forde initiated a run, covering more than half the pitch, his partner Chase remained anchored at his end. The swift relay from Harvey to keeper Josh Inglis resulted ??in an effortless stumping and unfortunate run out of Forde who was dismissed for a two-ball duck.

On-field drama: Forde’s visible frustration and exchange of words with Chase

The aftermath of Forde’s dismissal unfolded in a tense on-field exchange between him and Chase. Forde, visibly upset with the miscommunication that led to his dismissal, engaged in a heated discussion with Chase. As Australia celebrated the unexpected wicket, the two West Indies players continued their conversation.

West Indies’ batting collapse: Series finale misery

The run-out incident served as a microcosm of a broader batting collapse for the West Indies, who were put into bat first by Australia in the series finale. Despite starting the first powerplay with a score of 36/2, the visitors lost their way in the middle overs and were eventually bowled out for a paltry 86. Xavier Bartlett emerged as the standout Australian bowler, finishing with figures of 4/21, well-supported by the dynamic duo of Lance Morris and Adam Zampa, who both picked two wickets each.

Jake Fraser-McGurk’s blitz: Australia’s dominant response

In response to the modest target, Jake Fraser-McGurk played a scintillating knock of 41 off just 18 balls, displaying unbridled aggr??ession with three sixes and five fours. Inglis also contributed with a brisk, unbeaten 35 off 16 balls. Australia efficiently reached the target of 87/2 in just 6.5 overs, securing a resounding 3-0 series victory against the struggling West Indies.

Run-out at the non-striker’s end has always been a controversial issue, and cricket enthusiasts across the world are also divided over the legitimacy of this mode of dismissal. However, the International Cricket Council (ICC) last year officially legalised the ‘Mankad’ by moving it from the unfair play category to the legitimate ‘run out’ category. The new rules came into effect on October 1, 2022.

A Tasmanian batter recently fell victim to the non-striker’s run out that left him furious with the bowler and the umpire. The video of the same was posted by the Australian media network Fox Cricket on Twitter.

The incident happened during the SCA Grand Final between Claremont and New Norfolk when a bowler, after spotting the batter out of the crease, dislodged the bails at the non-striker’s end just before releasing the ball from his hand and appealed to the umpire. The match official deemed the Tasmanian cricketer out as per the new rules, and the latter had to go back to the pavilion. However, the player was unhappy with the on-field umpire’s verdict and furiously threw his bat in the air to express his dissent. He even kicked off his gloves in anger on his way back to the dugout.

The teammates of the Tasmanian cricketer wer??e also seen stepping onto the field in resentment.

Here’s the video:

It’s not the first time such an incident has taken place. The non-striker run-out has been subject to huge discussions even before this. While many popular cricketers such as Ravichandran Ashwin and Alex Hales support this mode of dismissal, many don’t agree with them.

Going by the ICC law on the non-striker run-out, it states: “If the non-striker is out of his/her ground at any time from the moment the ball comes into play until the instant when the bowler would normally have been expected to release the ball, the non-striker is liable to be run out.”

On Wednesday (February 23), India suffered a heart-wrenching five-run defeat versus Australia in the first semi-final of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023, held in Cape Town.

Chasing 173 for victory, India lost three wickets in the first four overs. But, the team captain Harmanpreet Kaur and Jemimah Rodrigues’ partnership of 69 runs for the fourth wicket kept India’s hopes alive. However, Harmanpreet’s bizarre run-out proved to be a turning point in the match.

During the fourth delivery of the 15th over, Harmanpreet played a slog sweep to deep mid-wicket against Georgia Wareham. She completed a single but her bat got stuck in the middle while coming back for the second run. Aussie wicketkeeper outAlyssa Healy was quick to remove the bails, and Harmanpreet had to walk back to the dug after a well-made 52 off 34 balls. Her dismissal was termed “schoolgirl error” by former England captain Nasser Hussain, who was commentating at that moment.

Despite the disappointment of the defeat, India showed glimpses of promise in their ?performance. The partnership between Harmanpreet and Rodrigues gave India a fighting chance, after their bowlers restricted Australia to 172, which was a par score ?for the conditions. While it was a bitter pill to swallow for the Indian team, they can take heart from their performance and come back stronger in the future.

In the aftermath of the match, Harmanpreet was quizzed abou??t her run-out.

“How will you take the pressure when someone like Nasser Hussain on live commentary calls it a schoolgirl error or a club cricket error? How do you defend something like that?” the reporter asked.

The Indian skipper looked surprised after knowing that Nasser made such a remark. She k??ept her calm and gave a fitting reply.

“He [Nasser] said that? (Raises her eyebrows). Post-match? Okay. I don’t know, that’s his way of thinking but sometimes it happens. I have seen many times in cricket when batters are taking a single like that and the bat gets stuck there.

“Obviously, I will take it as, we were unlucky today. Some things we still have to improve to go to the finals. Definitely, we didn’t field well, we didn’t bowl well in patches and we didn’t bat well. You have to do well in all the departments, then only you have the chance to go to the finals.

“I think it was unlucky but I don’t think it was a mistake by a school girl. We are mature enough, we are playing international cricket and whatever he said, that’s his way of thinking. I don’t think it was like that,” she added.

After India lost the first ODI against ??West Indies by eight wickets, Virat Kohli voiced his displeasure at the sequence of events that led to Ravindra Jadeja being adjudged run-out during the first i??nnings in Chennai.

The Indian captain categorically stated that outside intervention led to on-field umpire Shaun George consulting the third umpire to take up the decision, eventually leading to Jadeja’s dismissal.

Jadeja was short in his crease when the fielder affected a direct hit at the stumps, but on-filed did not g??ive that out. However, in a bizarre sequence of events, the umpire referred it upstairs, but by t?hat time, the ball had been long dead, and also the replay of the run-out was displayed on the big screen.

Kohli, therefore, slammed the umpires and made it clear that what happened on the field in the 48th over of India’s innings was not right.

“The thought is simple, the fielder asked ‘how is that,’ and the umpire said ‘not out.’ The dismissal ends there,” Kohli said, adding, “The people sitting on the TV outside cannot tell the fielders to then say to the umpire to review it again. I’ve never seen that happen in cricket.

“I don’t know where the rules are, where the line is drawn. I think the referee and the umpires have to take that up, see that incident again. And figure out what needs to be done in cricket. People sitting outside can’t dictate what happens on the field. I think that’s exactly what happened there.

“We would have got 15-20 runs more had something not happened out there”.

Meanwhile, Windies skipper Kieron Pollard, on his part, said that the correct decision was made? without delving into the manner it was achieved by??.

“For me, at the end of the day, the right decision was made, which is important. We appealed, and the umpire didn’t take it at that time, but eventually, the right decision was made,” he said.

Controversy and drama surrounded Ravindra Jadeja’s run-out dismissal in the first ODI between India and West Indies at MA Chidambaram stadium in Chennai on Sunday (December 15).

The incident happened in the 48th over of India’s innings when Jadeja tried to sneak a quick single off Keemo Paul. There was no doubt that Jadeja didn’t make his ground in time, but confusion prevailed over the nature of appeal and the process followed by the umpires.

The fielder who directly hit the stumps at the bowler’s end, Roston Chase, made a proper appeal to the on-field umpire Shaun George. The umpire, however, didn’t immediately check with the third umpire.

Before delivering the next ball, Kieron Pollard, who was possibly alerted by the West Indies dressing room, asked the umpire to check Jadeja’s dismissal. After further delay and confusion, the third umpire was called in, and the right decision was made.

The incident, meanwhile, made Virat Kohli furious as the ??Indian skipper left his seat and? walked towards the field angrily. Kohli, however, did not enter the ground as Jadeja walked back to the dressing room.

It must be noted that neither the l?aws of the game nor the ICC playing conditions have set a time limit for an on-field umpire to check run-out decisions with the TV umpire.

?India scored 287/8 in their stipulated 50 overs batting first.

Indian captain Virat Kohli, on Monday, showed why he is one of the best fielders in world cricket as he effected a brilli?ant run-out against the Windies to send back Kieran Powell packing on 4.

The incident happened in the sixth over of second innings when Mar?lon Samuels played a shot towards off-side and called Powell for a run only to turn him back after watching Kohli running towards the ball.

The Windies opener at the non-striker’s end was way down his crease and Kohli took no time to collect the ball and hit the stumps with an under-arm flick, thus catching Powell short of his crease.

On a gloomy Friday afternoon at Lord’s cricket ground, England picked up their third wicket leaving India wounded with just 15 runs on the board. Pujara walked back with a single after a horrible run-out mix-up with the Indian skipper Virat Kohli with many on social media reckoning that it was the latter’s fault.

Cheteshwar Pujara

With five slips behind Pujara in James Anderson’s second over after the rain-interruption, the pacer delivered a simple length delivery with the batsman tapped it down to the fielder at point. Pujara set off for a single and Kohli responded to it. But sensing the danger, Kohli stopped and turned back and returned to position, leaving Pujara stranded at the halfway mark and allowing debutant Ollie Pope to collect the ball and dislodge the bails at the striker’s end.

Only till a few years ago, cricket was bound to just a few nations but now the sport is spreading to countries where people previously didn’t even know about cricket, let alone have a team.

Recently, pictures of Russian players holding a practice session went viral. Also, we came across German Cricket TV Super Series 2018 T20 league whose m??atches were str??eamed live for viewers on Facebook.

During the league, the bowler went through a range of emotions on a single delive??ry while a match between BW Sharks and Northern.

Run-out

The batsman tried to take on the spinner and went for an attacking shot. The bowler too went on to grab the ball with both hands but it slipped through. The deflection caused led to the ball hitting the top of the stu??mps and dislodging the bails. The non-striker was well outside the crease and ended up losing his wicket.
