In the final of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) against Australia at The Oval, India faced a crushing defeat,? succumbing to a 209-run loss in the one-off Test. Chasing a target of 444, the Indian team was dismissed for 234, with none of their batters managing to surpass the fifty-run mark in the pursuit.

During Australia’s first innings, the partnership between Travis Head and Steve Smith proved? to be a turning point. The duo skilfully negotiate?d the Indian bowlers and constructed an impressive 285-run partnership for the fourth wicket. This significant collaboration propelled Australia to a formidable total of 469 runs.

Expressing his perspective on India’s defeat, BCCI President Roger Binny stated that Rohit and his teammates suffered the loss right from the opening day of the match. He specifically highlighted the impressive performances by Head and Smith, which ultimately shifted the momentum in the game. Bi??nny further emphasized that if that partnership had been broken, the match would have been evenly poised.

“We lost the game on the first day itself. The big partnership that Australia put on was what really turned the tables in this game. Otherwise, the game was even. If you take away that partnership, the game was totally even,” Binny was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

The ex-cricketer went on to encourage Team India to maintain a positive outlook and concentrate on the upcoming 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup. The tou??rnament is set to take place in India between October and November of this year.

“We have something bigger coming up in the future so we have to keep our spirits up and make sure that we do well in the World Cup and it’s at home. So that is important,” he added.

Former Indian cricketer Roger Binny, who played a big role in Kapil Dev-led Team India clinching the ODI World Cup title in 1983, was appointed the President of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) last month. He replaced ex-India captain Sourav Ganguly for the top job.

Almost 7 weeks after his appointment, Binny has now received a conflict of interest notice from the BCCI ethics officer Vineet Saran. The notice was sent by Saran after the complainant, Sanjeev Gupta, alleged that Binny is conflicted since his daughter-in-law Mayanti Langer works for Star Sports N?etwork, which holds the home seaso??n media rights for Indian cricket.

According to a PTI report, Binny has been aske??d to file a written response by December 20 against the conflict of interest allegations charged against him.

“You are hereby informed that a complaint has been received under Rule 39(2)(b) of the Rules and Regulations of BCCI by the Ethics Officer, BCCI for breach of Rule 38 (1) (i) and Rule 38(2) of the said rules, constituting an instance of ‘conflict of interest’ on your part.

“You are directed to file your Written Response to the accompanying complaint on or before 20/12/2022. The said response should be supported by a duly executed affidavit,” wrote Saran in the notice dated November 21.

For the unversed, the Star Sports anchor Mayanti is the wife of former India all-rounder Stuart Binny. They have been married for over 10 years now. She is four months o??lder than Stuart who recently?? played for India Legends in the Road Safety World Series.

Former India cricketer Roger Binny, who is currently the President of BCCI, has hit back at ex-Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi after the latter commented that the International Cricket Council (ICC) is biased in India’s favour during global tournaments.

Afridi’s comments came after Bangladesh lost to India in the Super 12 fixture of ongoing T20 World Cup, effectively making Pakistan’s way to reach the semi-finals more difficult.

“You saw the ground how wet it was. But ICC is inclined towards India. They want to ensure India reaches the semi-finals at any cost. The umpires were also the same who officiated India vs Pakistan & will get the best umpire awards. Given the amount of rain that happened, the game resumed immediately after the break. It is very evident that many things were involved, the ICC, India playing (the game), the pressure that comes with it, and there are many factors involved. But Litton’s batting was amazing. He played positive cricket. After six overs, we felt that if Bangladesh didn’t lose wickets for another 2-3 overs, they would have won the match. Overall, the fight shown by Bangladesh was brilliant,” Afridi had said on Saama TV.

Responding to Afridi’s comments, Binny said that the international apex body treats every nation equally. He admitted that BCCI is a big powerhouse in cricket, but it doesn’t get any special treatment from ICC.

“Not fair. I don’t think we’re favoured by ICC. Everyone gets the same treatment. No way in which you can say that. What do we get different from other teams? India is a big powerhouse in cricket, but we’re all treated the same,” Binny was quoted as saying to ANI.

After their win against Bangladesh??, India are at the top of their group and quite close to qualify for the semi-finals of the multi-team tournament. Pakistan and Banglades?h will face each other in Adelaide on Sunday and have to look at the results of South Africa vs Netherland and India vs Zimbabwe games.

Roger Binny, member of the 1983 World Cup-winning squad, was elected as the new President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) during its 91st Annual General Meeting at the Taj Mahal Hotel in Mumbai on Tuesday, October 18. Binny will take over the duties from former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly, whose three-year tenure as the BCCI chief comes t?o an ?end.

The other office bearers, who were elected unanimously include Jay Shah (secretary), Ashish Shelar (treasurer), Rajeev Shukla (vice-president) and Devajit Saikia (joint secretary). Outgoing treasurer Arun Dhumal will be the new IPL chairman as Brijesh Patel will turn 70 next month.

Binny, who represented India in 27 Tests and 72 ODIs, was a handy batter down the order. He is most remembered for his performance in the 1983 World Cup. With 18 wickets, Binny ended up as highest wicket-taker of the tournament and played a key role in the Kapil Dev-led Team India lifting their maiden ODI trophy.

His team-mate for many years, Madan Lal is elated at the unanimous choice of the 67-ye??ar-old Binny and hopes that In??dian cricket will be in a much better position than it is currently under the new boss.

“Like they say, nicest things happen to the nicest persons. I am sure Roger will definitely do well. All of us are very happy. At the end of the day, he has to do the job. Whatever decisions he will take, he will take them wisely. I wish him good luck. I am very happy. He is a gentleman. He has to make some tough decisions. Former India skipper Sourav Ganguly will no longer be the President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) as his three-year stint is ending next week, with former all-rounder and Karnataka Cricket Association president Roger Binny set to become the new chief of the world’s richest cricket body.

Notably, Ganguly had taken over as BCCI’s President in October 2019 and looked favourite to continue till 2025, especially after the Supreme Court of India waved off the three-year cooling-off period clause.

But according to several media reports, Ganguly, who wanted to continue as BCCI’s chief, was denied as there is no precedent for giving a second term to the role. Instead, the ex-captain was offered the IPL chairmanship post, but he refused the offer.

Further, Ganguly was left disappointed as he did not propose Binny’s name and also being informed about the developments post the nomination process held at BCCI’s office on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Jay Shah will continue as BCCI secretary, while Rajiv Shukla will also stay on as the board’s vice president. Moreover, Ashish Shelar, who served as Mumbai Cricket Association president between 2017 and 2019, will be the treasurer, and Devajit Saikia, who is currently a secretary at Assam Cricket Association, will be the joint sec?retary in the apex board.

Another key appointment is of Arun Dhumal, who is set to take over as the new IPL chairman. Earlier, this post was held by Brijesh Patel, the former India batter. But Patel will be forced to vacate the seat as he turns 70 on November 24, and as per BCCI’s constitution, the maximum permitted age limit for an office bearer, or an administrator is 70.
