Indian Test batter Hanuma Vihari showcased an unreal level of courage and determination during a Ranji Trophy game between Andra Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday.

On Day 1 of the ongoing 4th Quarter Final at Holkar Stadium in Indore, Vihari, who was captaining the Andhra team, sustained a broken wrist after being hit by a delivery from Avesh Khan and was forced to retire hurt. However, after his te?am suffered a mid-inning collapse on Day 2, the 29-year-old took th??e courageous decision to go out and resume his inning.

Vihari, who has played in 16 Test matches for India so far, came out at No. 11, and added 26 runs for the last wicket with No. 9 batter Lalith Mohan (22 not out). Further, Vihari ?w?ho is a right-handed batter ?batted left-handed to ensure his wrist remains protected. He was the last Andhra batter to get dism??issed. Vihari made 27 runs from 57 balls and helped his side post 379 runs on the board in the first innings.

Vihari’s exemplary bravery was widely lauded by fans and admirers on various social media platforms. Senior cricketer Dinesh Karthik also expressed his views and heaped praises on ??Vihari for his unbelievable effo??rt.

“Hanuma Vihari. Batting LEFT handed and also, more importantly, just with one hand, the top hand. Bravery to another level,” Karthik wrote on Twitter.

Sarfaraz Khan has been making headlines? for the past few weeks for his exploits in the ongoing edition of the Ranji Trophy 2022-23. In the last two seasons of the tournament, he has amassed more than 900 runs each for Mumbai and continued the domination in the ongoing edition as well.

Despite his top-notch performances, Sarfaraz did not get a chance in the national team and wasn’t considered by the selection committee for the upcoming matches of the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2023, which commences next month on 9 February. Meanwhile, India’s T20I specialist Suryakumar Yadav and wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan got th?eir maide??n call-ups for the Test side against Australia.

Disappointed for not making it to the Indian team, Sarfaraz responded with yet another century against Delhi in the domestic circuit. The 25-year-old has scored three tons in six matches he played so far in the ongoing Ranji Trophy tournament?.

Sarfaraz’s father, Naushad Khan, while talking to the Indian Express, recently shared a heartwarming childhood incident about the former U-19 batter involving legendary Sachin Tendulkar‘s son Arjun Tendulkar.

Naushad recalled that when Sarfaraz played junior games with Arjun, the Mumbai batter approached his father and said, “Dad, how fortunate Arjun is, no? (Abbu, Arjun, kitna naseeb wala haina?) He’s Sachin sir’s son and has everything in life, like cars, ipads etc.”

The cricketer’s father at that time felt helpless and didn’t know how to respond, but soon young Sarfaraz came back, hugged his father and added, “I am more fortunate than him because my dad gets to spend the whole day with me. Arjun’s father can’t spend enough time with him.”

Notably, Naushad himself is a former cricketer and coach of Sarfaraz and his brother Musheer Khan.

Talking about Arjun, he is also having a fine season in the ongoing Ranji Trophy. While representing Goa, the 23-year-old smashed a century on his debut game against Rajasthan. He h?as also scalped 12 wickets in s?ix games and is yet to make his India debut.

Vidarbha defeated Gujarat by 18 runs in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2022-23 and created history. Left-arm spinner Aditya Sarwate shined for Vidarbha in their recor??d win and picked u??p an 11-wicket match haul.

On the third day of the match in Nagpur, Vidarbha bowled out Gujarat for just 54 runs and successfully defended 73, which is the lowest defended total in the history of first-class cricket in India. Previously in 1948-49, Bihar safeguarded 78 against Delhi in Jamshedpur.

Vidarbha won the toss and elected to bat first, but the decision backfired for them as they were bundled out for just 74 on the board. Five of Vidarbha’s batters returned to the pavilion without adding a run. The only batter to have played well for them was opener Sanjay Raghunath who scored 33 runs. Meanwhile, Chintan Gaja and Tejas Patel picked up five wickets each for Gujarat.

In reply, Gujarat batted decently, with opener Aarya Desai scoring 88. However, they were bowled out at a score of 256, gaining a lead of 182 runs, while Sarwate too??k five wickets for Vidarbha.

Coming to bat again on Day 2 after a patchy first inning, Vidarbha started well this time but only managed to secure a lead of 73 runs and lost all their wickets at 254 in 65.5 overs. Jitesh Sharma (69) and Atharva Taide (44) contributed to the team’s total.

With just 73 runs to defend, Vidarbha resumed the fourth innings on Day 3, and what almost seemed impossible was accomplished with the help of Sarwate’s six-wicket haul. Gujarat were restricted to a mere 54, and Vidarbha won the contest. Sidharth Desai (18) was the only Gujarat batter to? reach a double-digit score.

Surprisingly the match between Vidarbha and Gujarat saw a fall of 40 wickets in 3 days. Notably, the same venue will host the ?first match of the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2023.

Team India will face Australia in four-match Test series commencing on February 9. It is ?an important assignment for the Men in Blues if t??hey want to reach the finals of the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023.

On Friday (January 13), the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) a?nnounced a 17-member squad for the first two matches of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023.

Notably, the two games will take place in Nagpur (February 9-13) and Delhi?? (February 17-21), respective?ly.

However, the BCCI took everyone by surprise when they included India’s T20I specialist Suryakumar Yadav into the Test squad but ignored Sarfaraz Khan, despite the latter’s prolific performances in the domestic circuit.

Many former cricketers questioned Sarfaraz’s exclusion, and the fans also weren’t thrilled about the fact that the 25-year-old didn’t get picked into the longest format.

After being ignored by the selectors once again, the disappointed Sarfaraz took to his Instagram and p?osted two stories showing his records in first-class and domestic circu??it.

The opening story depicted Sarfaraz’s first-class batting stats. With an average of 80.47, the Mumbai cricketer is only second to legendary Sir Don Bradman among batters with a minimum of 50 innings.

The second sto?ry, on the other hand, showed hi??s batting average (110.73) for Mumbai in first-class matches.

In the 2021-22 Ranji Trophy, Sarfaraz smash??ed 982 runs at an average of 122.75 with four centuries and two fifties. Meanwhile, in the ongoing edition of the tournament, he slammed 431 runs at an average of 107.75 with two tons and a half-century.

Other than Suryakumar, even Ishan Kishan received hi??s maiden ?call-up in the Test side for the upcoming home series.

Before the Australia challenge, India will face New Zealand in three T20Is and as many ODIs. Right-handed opener Prithvi Shaw has be?en recalled in the shortest format following his sensational performance in the domestic level.

Prithvi Shaw, who slammed a triple hundred in the game against Mumbai versus Assam, had claimed that he was not out, and the way he was batting, h??e cou??ld have easily reached to 400.

On Day 2 of the first innings, Shaw scored the second-highest individual score in the prestigious tournament and surpassed Sanjay Manjrekar‘s 377 runs. The 23-year-old also became the first Indian to score a triple ton in Ranji Trophy, a double hundred in Vijay Hazare Trophy and a hundred in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

Batting on 379, Shaw was dismissed by Riyan Parag of Assam, as the umpire adjudged the Mumbai batter leg-before-wicket (lbw). The match official at first didn’t seem impressed with the bowler’s call, but as Parag appealed louder, the former raised his finger to signal out. Shaw shook his head in disbelief and walked back to the pavilion.

Both Parag and Shaw have played togethe??r in the India U-19 team.

After the end of Day 2, Shaw speaking to Sportst?ar stated that he was unhappy to miss out on a 400 and claimed that he was not out.

“I was very disappointed because you don’t get such opportunities often,” said Shaw.

“I am not saying it was a wrong decision, but when I came back and saw the video, the ball was perhaps missing the stump. I told sir (match referee Arindam Sarkar) also, but I am sure, on the field, the umpires must have thought that it was hitting the stumps,” he added.

“It is hard to understand at times, and such things happen. The umpires are also not at fault because they obviously went by what they saw on the field,” Shaw concluded.

Talking about the match, with the help of Shaw’s 379 and skipper Ajinkya Rahane‘s 191, Mumbai declared their first innings on 697.

On Day 2 of the Mumbai vs Assam domestic game, Prithvi shaw smashed the second-highest individual score in the history of the Ranji Trophy. The Mumbaik??ar smashed his maiden triple hundred and scored 379 off just 382 balls.

Shaw surpassed the former Mumbai cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar, who had scored 377 runs back in 199?1 against Hyderabad.

However, Shaw couldn’t exceed Bhanusaheb Nimbalkar, who still holds the record for the highest individual score by an Indian batter at the dom??estic level. Nimbalkar scored an unbeaten 443 for Maharashtra against Kathiawar in 1948.

Shaw had ended Day 1 of the game at a score of 240, and resuming his innings on Wednesday, he surpassed 350+ and became only the 9th Indian batsman to do so in Ranji Trophy tournament. But the 23-year-old failed to reach the 400 mark as he fell lbw to leg spinner Riyan Parag on 379 in the last over before lunch.

Apart from Shaw, the Mumbai Captain Ajinkya Rahane 191 (302) also scored a decent century. Rahane and Shaw b??uilt a 401-run partnership for the third wicket.

It was a really important inning for Shaw as he didn’t start t??he ongoing Ranji season well and had scored just a single? fifty in the last seven games.

Manjrekar posted a tweet reacting to Shaw’s inning, ?em>Thrilled that my record of 377 was beaten by a batter I adore! Well done Prithvi!?/em>

Speaking to The Indian Express at the end of Day 1,?? Shaw had said that his knock was a result of the hard work he had put in for the la?st few years.

“I was happy with the way I was batting (this season), just that I was not getting a big score,” told Shaw to The Indian Express.

“But when you are hungry to score runs and doing your process, you will eventually be rewarded. The innings was a result of the hard work I put into my game in the last few years.” he added.

With the help of Shaw’s triple hundred and Rahane’s ton, Mumbai declared the first inning on a massive total of 687 for the loss of 4 wickets.
