The Indian cricket team has made some changes in its squad for the ongoing T20I series against England following injuries to two players. Shivam Dube has been called up to replace Nitish Kumar Reddy, while Ramandeep Singh has been added as cover for Rinku Singh.

Nitish Kumar Reddy ruled out with side strain

Nitish Reddy sustained a side strain during a nets session on Friday, ahead of the second T20I in Chennai. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed that Reddy will undergo further management at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. He is expected to require approximately four weeks of rest and rehabilitation, effectively ruling him out of competitive cricket until the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, where he represents Sunrisers Hyderabad.

This injury comes as a significant setback for Reddy, who has been showing promise as an all-format player. Interestingly, this isn’t the first time Reddy has been replaced by Dube due to an injury; a similar situation occurred during Reddy’s maiden T20I tour of Zimbabwe.

Dube, a big-hitting all-rounder, has played 33 T20Is, scoring 448 runs at a strike rate of nearly 135 and taking 11 wickets with his medium-pace bowling. However, his recent domestic performance hasn’t been ideal; he bagged a pair (two ducks) while playing for Mumbai in a Ranji Trophy match against Jammu and Kashmir. Despite this, his ability to strike big and contribute with the ball has earned him another chance in the national setup.

Rinku Singh’s low back spasm

Lower-order batter Rinku Singh also sustained a low back spasm while fielding during the first T20I against England at Eden Gardens. According to the BCCI, Rinku is progressing well under medical supervision but will miss a few games of the remaini??ng series.

Ramandeep, who has shown promise in the domestic circuit, joins the squad as a backup for Rinku. Known for his hard-hitting abilities in the lower order, Ramandeep will provide depth and flexibility to the Indian side a??s they aim to maintain momentum in the series.

India re??gistered a thrilling win in the second T20I on Saturday and are now 2-0 ahead in the ??five-match leg.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has recently unveiled the eagerly awaited squad for the T20I series against England, but the ODI roster remains under wraps, fueling ongoing speculation. Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar made bold decisions by including several marquee names, while some players from India’s victorious 3-1 T20I series against South Africa in December were left out. These omissions raise questions about the evolving team dynamics and the selectors’ approach to balancing experienced campaigners with fresh talent.

Major inclusions and notable omissions

While the squad features star performers who have been instrumental in India’s recent success, it also excludes a few consistent contributors from the domestic circuit. Some players who have shone in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and demonstrated their potential for India in previous outings failed to secure a spot in the Suryakumar Yadav-led side. This deci??sion reflects the selectors?strategy to explore new combinations and focus on long-??term planning for upcoming global events.

With a blend of experienced players and newcomers, the squad highlights India’s depth in talent but also underscores the challenges of accommodating deserving performers within a limited roster. As the team gears up under Suryakumar’s leadership, the focus will be on maintaining the momentum from the South Africa series while building a cohesive unit for future challenges.

5 Indian players who failed to make a cut in T20I squad for England series

1. Ramandeep Singh

Ramandeep Singh was part of the Indian squad during the South Africa T20I series and had a brief opportunity to showcase his batting skills. In his solitary innings, he scored 15 runs off just six balls, displaying a remarkable strike rate of 250.00. Known for his power-hitting in domestic cricket and the? IPL, Ramandeep can provide the much-needed acceleration in the lower middle order. How??ever, with stiff competition for all-rounder spots, his omission from the England series suggests that selectors may be prioritizing players with more experience or a proven track record at the international level.

2. Avesh Khan

Avesh Khan featured in two matches during the South Africa T20I series and made his presence felt with c??onsistent performances. He bowled a total of 35 deliveries, claiming two wickets with a best of 2/28. Despite his economy rate of 8.74, Avesh demonstrated his knack for striking at crucial moments, maintaining a respectable average of 25.50 and a strike rate of 17.50. His ability to generate pace and execute variations makes him a valuable asset in T20 cricket. However, his absence from the England series might indicate that selectors are rotating their pace attack to manage workloads and explore other options.

3. Jitesh Sharma

Jitesh Sharma, a dynamic wicketkeeper-batter, was part of the Indian squad during the South Africa series but didn’t get an opportunity to showcase his skills. Known for his explosive hitting in domestic cricket and the IPL, Jitesh’s ability to accelerate in the middle overs made him a contender for a place in the playing XI. Despite his strong domestic and IPL performances, he faces stiff competition from other keepers in the national team setup. His absence might be a result of the selectors focusing on players who can bowl part-time or add versatility to the squad. Nevertheless, his aggressive batting remains an asset for India in the shortest format.

4. Vyshak Vijaykumar

Vyshak Vijaykumar, a promising pacer who had impressed during the IPL, was included in the squad for South Africa but didn’t get a game. Known for his ability to swing the ball and maintain a disciplined line and length, he provided a reliable bowling option in the powerplay and death overs. However, with the return of senior bowlers like Arshdeep Singh and Mohammed Shami, he finds himself out of the mix for the England series. Vyshak remains an exciting prospect for India and could return to the national fold with consistent performances in dome??stic and IPL tournaments.

5. Yash Dayal

Yash Dayal, a left-arm seamer, adds variety to India’s bowling attack and was a part of the squad in the South Africa series. He brings the ability to extract movement and bounce, particularly on surfaces that assist seamers. Unfortunately, Yash couldn’t make his debut during the South Africa tour, and his exclusion from the England series could be attributed to competition among India’s pace bowlers. The selectors may have opted for players with more experience, but Yash’s potential makes him a valuable option for the future.

Special mention: Ruturaj Gaikwad

Ruturaj Gaikwad‘s omission from the 15-man squad for the England T20I series has raised several eyebrows. Known for his consistency and elegance, Gaikwad boasts an impressive T20I record, averaging close to 40 with a strike rate of 143.53. He excelled in his last series against Zimbabwe, demonstrating his versatility by performing as both an opener and a middle-order batter. Despite these achievements, the selectors seem to have favored other options, possibly due to team composition or workload management. Gaikwad remains a key player for India’s future, with his ability to adapt to various batting roles making him a strong contender for a comeback.

Changes in India’s playing XI for the third T20I

India A’s all-rounder Ayush Badoni left the crowd spellbound with a sensational catch to dismiss United Arab Emirates (UAE)’s Muhammad Jawadullah during the Men’s T20 Emerging Asia Cup 2024 clash on Monday (October 21). His lightning-quick reflexes and athleticism were on full display, adding to India A’s momentum and reinforcing their dominance in the tournament.

Ayush Badoni stuns with a spectacular catch

The standout moment occurred in the 15th over, with Ramandeep Singh delivering a full-length ball around the leg stump to Jawadullah, who attempted a powerful drive towards long-on. As the ball rocketed through the air, Badoni sprinted across the field, closing the gap with remarkable speed. Timing his dive to perfection, he soared through the air and caught the ball with both hands just inches above the ground. It was a jaw-dropping display of skill and precision. This pivotal catch not only ended Jawadullah’s brief innings of 1 run from 2 balls but also sealed UAE’s ninth wicket, further tipping the scales in India A’s favour.

Batting first, UAE struggled to find momentum, managing just 107 runs before being bowled out in 16.5 overs. Opener Rahul Chopra was the only player to offer any significant resistance, scoring a fighting 50 off 50 balls. Unfortunately, he lacked support from the other end as the UAE lineup crumbled under pressure. India A’s Rasikh Salam was the pick of the bowlers, delivering a stellar spell to claim 3/15 in just two overs. Ramandeep also made an impact with the ball, taking 2 wickets, while Vaibhav Arora and Nehal Wadhera chipped in with a wicket each.

In response, India A chased down the target with ease, thanks to Abhishek Sharma‘s explosive 24-ball 58, which included 6 boundaries and 4 massive sixes. Tilak Varma provided stability with his 21, while Badoni added an unbeaten 12, steering India A to victory with 55 balls remaining. The UAE bowlers found it tough to contain the aggressive Indian batting lineup, with Omid Shafi Rahman, Vishnu Sukumaran and Muhammad Farooq picking ?up one wicket each but unable to prevent the inevitable.

In a thrilling encounter at the ACC T20 Emerging Teams Asia Cup 2024, India A triumphed over Pakistan A by a narrow margin of seven runs. The match, held at the Oman Cricket Academy Ground on Saturday (October 19), featured a standout moment when Ramandeep Singh executed a stunning catch to dismiss Yasir Khan, a pivotal m??oment?? that shifted the momentum in favour of India A.

Ramandeep Singh grabs a stunner

On the first ball of the ninth over, Pakistani opener Yasir Khan flicked a shot that seemed destined for the boundary. However, Ramandeep, positioned at mid-wicket, covered significant ground and leaped to his right to pull off a stunn?ing one-handed diving catch. The Indian players erupted in celebration at Ramandeep’s remarkable effort, and he too reveled in the moment.

Yasir, who was well-set at the crease, had scored 33 runs before spinner Nishant Sandhu managed to dismiss him.

Dinesh Karthik praises Ramandeep’s effort

Ramandeep’s sensational catch quickly went viral on social media, with former Indian cricketer Dinesh Karthik tweeting about it, calling it?? one of the greatest catches ever by an Indian.

Yasir’s dismissal put immense pressure on the middle-order, and despite a valiant effort from Arafat Minhas and a brief cameo by Abdul Samad, the team struggled to regain control. India A’s bowling attack, spearheaded by right-arm pacer Anshul Kamboj, was equally formidable. Kamboj delivered an outstanding performance, taking 3 wickets for 33 runs in his 4 overs, preventing Pakistan A from building any momentum. His consistent breakthroughs dashed their hopes of a comeback, securing a 7-run victory for India A.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) emerged triumphant in the IPL 2024 final, defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by a convincing 8 wickets at the MA Chidambaram St??adium in Chennai on Sunday.

KKR’s thumping win over SRH in IPL 2024 final

KKR’s bowlers set the tone for a one-sided victory, restricting SRH to a meagre total of 113 runs. Pat Cummins‘ decision to bat first after winning the toss backfired.

Mitchell Starc got the Knight Riders off to a flier by dismissing SRH opener Abhishek Sharma in the very first over. From there on, KKR never relinquished control, maintaining a stranglehold on the SRH batters throughout the innings. The disciplined bowling attack, led by Andre Russell‘s impressive spell of 3 for 19 in just 2.3 overs, bundled out SRH in 18.3 overs.

Chasing a paltry target of 114, KKR reached the finish line in just 10.3 overs, thanks to Venkatesh Iyer’s 52 not out off 26.

This victory marked KKR’s third IPL title, solidifying their place as one of the most successful teams in the tournament’s history. Mitchell Starc was deservedly awarded the Man of the Match for his match-winning opening spell.
