The Indian Premier League (IPL) will continue its legacy into its 17th year in 2024, cementing its status as one of the world’s most popular franchise cricket leagues, evolving and refining its spectacle with each passing season.

Historical context

The tournament’s inaugural edition in 2008 saw the Rajasthan Royals (RR) clinch the title, but since then, they have remained elusive of further triumphs. In the 2023 final, the then-defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) clashed with MS Dhoni‘s Chennai Super Kings (CSK), with the latter emerging victorious, securing their fifth IPL title – a record they share with their arch-rivals, the Mumbai Indians (MI).

Speculations and anticipation

As anticipation brews for the action-packed season ahead, cricket pundits have begun their speculations on the potential contenders for the coveted title among the league’s 10 teams. Former Indian pacer Praveen Kumar recently joined the bandwagon, revealing his?? prediction for the IPL 2024 winner.

Praveen Kumar’s bold prediction: IPL 2024 winner

During a recent appearance on Shubhankar Mishra‘s show, former Indian cricketer Praveen made a bold prediction for IPL 2024. Placing his bet on Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Praveen confidently forecasted their victory in the tournament. When asked about his choice, Praveen responded with unwavering certainty, stating, “This time, the RCB team will win, but don’t ask why; RCB just came out of my mouth. It is 7 o’clock in the evening. Let’s see, this time RCB will win,”

Talent, expectations, and challenges ahead

While the RCB have always boasted a star-studded squad in the IPL including the likes of Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers, their inability to secure the trophy despite their talent epitomizes a collective shortfall in executing pivotal moments. Despite reaching the finals thrice, they faltered when it mattered most. Last season, desp?ite flashes of brilliance, they finished sixth and missed out on playoff contention. This time RCB will commence their c??ampaign in the tournament opener against the five-time champions CSK at the Chepauk Stadium in Chennai on March 22.

betvisa cricketPraveen Kumar – Cricket Times - betvisa live //betvisa68.com/2024/03/ipl-2024-former-mi-pacer-praveen-kumar-makes-serious-allegations-against-hardik-pandya/ Tue, 12 Mar 2024 08:31:37 +0000 //betvisa68.com/?p=126535

Mumbai Indians (MI) took a bold step before the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 Auction, appointing Hardik Pandya as the captain, replacing the highly successful Rohit Sharma. Despite Rohit leading the franchise to a record IPL victory five times, the management opted for a change. Hardik, previously the captain of Gujarat Titans (GT), won the title in 2022 and was?? the runner-up in 2023.

Fans criticism and expert opinions

The decision received criticism from fans who expressed discontent with the change in leadership. Experts, including former Indian player and ex-MI pacer Praveen Kumar, weighed in on the captaincy saga. In a viral video, Praveen addressed questions about the controversial decision and raised concerns about Hardik’s commitment to the game.

Praveen Kumar’s affirmation on Hardik Pandya

Praveen didn’t mince words when asked about the controversy. He criticized Hardik for his approach, stating that the all-rounder got injured two months before the IPL and didn’t play for the country or his state in domestic cricket. Praveen expressed his disapproval of neglecting national and state cricket for the IPL, emphasizing the importance of balancing financial interests with commitment to the sport.

“You got injured two months before the IPL, you don’t play for the country, you don’t play for your state in domestic cricket, and just directly play in the IPL. That’s not how things should be done. It’s okay to earn money; there’s nothing wrong in that. But it’s not good to neglect your cricket for state and country and only give importance to the IPL,” Praveen said.

Rohit Sharma’s captaincy potential

Responding to queries, Praveen further asserted that Rohit ???could have continued as the captain for another year or more. He believed Rohit had the capability to lead the team successfully, but the ultimate decision rested with the management.

“Yes, Rohit can do it. Not only for one year, but he can do it for two years, three years. But eventually, the decision lies in the hands of the management,” the 37-year-old concluded.

Here’s the video:

Hardik Pandya’s challenge as a new MI skipper

Amidst the criticism, Hardik faces the significant challenge of stepping into Rohit’s shoes. Rohit’s captaincy legacy included IPL victories in 2013, 2014, 2017, 2019, and 2020. Beyond leadership, Rohit’s impact as an hard-hitting batter is also highlighted. Hardik now will have the responsibility of guiding the team to new heights in the 17th edition of the IPL.

Opening match against Gujarat Titans (GT)

Adding intrigue to the situation, Mumbai-based franchise, under Hardik’s captaincy, will face Gujarat, his former team, in their tournament opener on March 24. Shubman Gill will lead the Gujarat, creating a compelling matchup between the two s??ides.

In a startling development, veteran Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) pacer Praveen Kumar has levied serious allegations against former IPL chairman Lalit Modi. The nature of these accusations has not been explicitly detailed, but they have raised eyebrows withi??n the cricketing community. Praveen, known for his contributions to Indian cricket, has chosen to make these claims, prompting speculation and interest among fans and cricket enthusiasts alike.

Praveen Kumar shed light on why he wanted to play for Delhi in IPL 2008

In a recent revelation, Praveen brought attention to the inaugural season of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2008), where he unintentionally ended up representing RCB. He elaborated on the incident, stating the reason behind his will to play for Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) rather than RCB as Delhi was near his hometown (Meerut), and he did n??ot like the food of Bengaluru.

“I did not want to play for RCB because Bangalore was quite far away from my place, I didn’t know English, and the food was not to my liking. Delhi is quite close to Meerut, which would have allowed me to travel to my home once in a while,” Praveen said in an interview with The Lallantop.

Praveen Kumar on Lalit Modi’s threat

However, according to the 37-year-old, an RCB official presented him with a document to sign, and he complied without awareness of its contractual nature. A significant twist unfolded When Praveen expressed his reluctance to join RCB and conveyed his desire to play for Delhi. Lalit allegedly intervened by calling the right-arm seamer and delivering a career-threatening warning, adding a layer of complexity to the circumstances surrounding player selections during that ??particular IPL season.

“There was a person (RCB official) who made me sign a paper. I did not know it was the contract. I told them I wanted to play for Delhi and not Bangalore. Lalit Modi called me and threatened to end my career,” the UP-based cricketer added.

Though cricketers are revered as ‘Gods’ by many in India, the players are as accustomed to folly as an ordinary citizen. They have to go through the same process when breaking laws or committing blunders.

Here are five popular cricketers who were arrested in the past for their wrongdoings?:-

1.) Suresh Raina

Suresh Raina

It might shock many that their hero Suresh Raina was arrested for br?eaking the lockdown rules in Mumbai. Th?e incident happened in the later part of 2020 when Raina was attending a party.

The southpaw was booked under Section 269 (Negligent act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to ??life), 188 (Disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant), 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) under Indian Penal Code (IPC).

His team soon released a st??atement defen??ding the former Indian cricketer by pointing out that the 34-year-old was unaware of the local protocols and was in Mumbai for a shoot.

“Suresh was in Mumbai for a shoot which extended to late hours and was invited by a friend for a quick dinner post the same prior to him taking his flight back to Delhi. He was not aware of the local timings and protocols.”

The team further added that once Raina knew the procedures, h??e immediately complied with them and held the?? highest regard for the governing bodies.

“Once pointed out, he immediately complied with the procedures laid out by the authorities and regrets the unfortunate and unintentional incident. He always holds rules and laws laid down by governing bodies with the highest regard and will continue to do so in the future as well.”

The Meerut-born was soon released on bail.

2.) Wasim Akram

Wasim Akram

Pakistan speedster Wasim Akram had to bear the brunt of law when he, along with his ex-teammates Waqar Younis and Aqib Javed, went ??to a beach during their tour in West Indies.

Pakistan tea??m had just reached Grenada from Geo??rgetown and were having a merry time when some unknown men who had earlier claimed to be their fans arrested the trio for possession of marijuana.

Cigarette butts were found in the sand where the three compatriots were sitting during their stay at the beach. However, the cricketers in question were released later and proved not guilty unless a specific sc?ientific test could be taken to indict them for the charges.

3.) Praveen Kumar

Praveen Kumar

Once a mainstay of the Indian bowling attack, Praveen Kumar was accused of beating up his neighbour and the latter’s son in a brawl. Kumar immediately washed his hands off the charges as he stated that he didn’t live in the house next door and had only gone there to check the paintwork that was being done.

The former Utt??????????????????????????ar Pradesh cricketer further added that the case was a prime example of local politics and blamed the neighbour for trying to snatch his chain.

“It is all a lie. In fact, he tried to snatch my chain. It is a case of local politics and nothing else. I don’t even live in that area. I have two-three houses there and I had gone to see the status of paintwork there,” Kumar told PTI.

4.) Vinod Kambli

Vinod Kambli

Vinod Kambli was labelled as the rising superstar in Indian cricket by media outlets. But Kambli soon lost his place in the team after a series of unfortunate events. The left-hander was also known for his arrogant attit??ude and regularly made headlines for all the wrong reasons.

An FIR was filed against Kambli and his wife Andrea Hewitt in 2015 when their house helper Soni Nafesinh Sarwal accused the couple of holding her up without permission in a room for three days afte??r the maid had asked for her wages.

However, Andrea rubbished the charges and described a different story where the serv??ant used to take illegal drugs and used to take a lot of l?eaves and was sacked following her casual attitude towards the job.

“Our maid was taking drugs and often remained absent. So she was sacked. Hence she filed a false case against us,” Hewitt argued.

5.) Ben Stokes

Ben Stokes

Ben Stokes was arrested for a night on charges of a confrontation outside Mbargo nightclub at Bristol in 2017. ??A 26-year-old man was also taken in custody for the suspicion of causing phys?ical harm, while another man was taken to the hospital with facial injuries.

After spending the whole night i??n prison, Stokes was released without any conclusive accusations as two gay men appeare??d as witnesses and stated that the former had saved them from a homophobic attack.

It was speculated that his England teammate Alex Hales was also i?nvolved in the incident, and the duo was excluded from the playing XI against West Indies for th?e fourth ODI.

However, this was not the first time that Stokes had gotten into trouble, as the police had ??also detained him during a night out in 2012.

One of the most iconic Indian wins under the captaincy of MS Dhoni is the 2008 Comm?onwealth Bank Tri-series victory over hosts Australia and Sri Lanka.

The trio of Suresh Raina, Prav?een Kumar and Rohit Sharma was part of the triumphant squad which brought laurels back?? home.

The reason why the win remains notable is that it came under the new regime of Ind??ian cricket, where Dhoni infused young blood and fresh legs into the side and translated his T20I success ?in ODI cricket.

This win came soon after India’s success in the T20 World Cup in South Africa which involved the young brigade.

Rohit’s knock with Sachin Tendulkar at SCG, while Kumar’s spell throughout the tournament was instrumental in the tournament win.

Praveen recently took to Twitter to share a picture with his UP teammate Raina and Mumbai stalwart Rohit??, who was still finding his feet in international cricket.

“Those days What about this bro’s @ImRaina @ImRo45,” Praveen captioned his post.

Soon after, close friend Raina and Rohit too reacted to the picture, while retweeting it. ‘Hysterical, those were the days man what fun,’ said Rohit.

“It was a good match brother, still remember your spell where you took Dilshan off stump with outswinger !! Stay safe love to family,” said Raina’s post.

After the Australia tour, Raina and Rohit went on to become regulars in the Indian side. However, Praveen’s career spiralled down with a dip in performances.

Praveen and Raina were part of the now-disbanded Gujarat Lions franchise for a couple of seasons while Rohit is now one of the?? modern greats in world cricket.

The UP seamer announced his retirement from the?? gam?e in October 2018, after playing his last international match in March 2012.

Raina remains out-of-favour in the national side due to his domestic form. He was looking forward to yet another impressive stint in th??e IPL for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), to make his contention for the 2020 T20 World Cup.

But the IPL?? 2020 has been suspended for an indefinite period due to coronavirus pandemi??c.
