As many as eight Indian cricketers will play in the upcoming Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL). The seventh season of WBBL will take place between October 14 to November 27, 2021, with matches to be played in Tasmania, Adelaide and Queensland.

Opener Smriti Mandhana and all-rounder Deepti Sharma will represent Sydney Thunder in WBBL|07. Notably, Smriti previously played for Hobart Hurricanes (in WBBL|04) and Brisbane Heat (in WBBL|02), while Deepti will appear in th??e WBBL for the first time.

“I like that she keeps her game really simple; she just wants to score runs. While it’s disappointing not to be able to have Heather back, if you could choose any replacement for her, it would be Deepti ?she’s also a star,” Thunder coach Trevor Griffin had said as quoted by cricket.com.au.

Like Smriti and Deepti, other pairs that will be part of the T20 tournament are Shafali Verma and Radha Yadav. Sydney Sixers have signed the exciting duo.

The 17-year-old Verma is currently the world’s top-ranked T20I batter and has established a reputation as one of the most fearless attacking players at the top order. Similarly, Radha strengthens the spin department. She is sitting at 11th position on the ICC T20I bowling rankings.

“Shafali is very impressive. She’s such a talent, and she’s fearless. Radha brings a skill set that we have never had at the Sixers. She has also batted in the middle of the order for India, so she is handy with the bat, too,” said Sixers coach Ben Sawyer.

The other four players that will feature in this year’s WBBL are Jemimah Rodrigues and Harmanpreet Kaur, who will ply their trades for Melbourne Renegades while Richa Ghosh and Poonam Yadav w??ill play for Hobart Hurricanes and Brisbane Heat, respectively.

India T20I skipper Harmanpreet has returned to the Big Bash after two years, while it will be Rodrigues’ maiden appearance in the tournament.

“Jemimah is an immensely talented young player who is already making her mark on the world stage at 21. She was superb recently in The Hundred over in the UK … she’s is a dynamic player who can score quickly and to all parts of the ground. Harmanpreet’s record at the international level over the past decade speaks for itself. She’s a match-winner and can take the game away from the opposition in a heartbeat,” said Renegades coach Simon Helmot.

Here is the list of Indian players set to feature in WBBL|07:

Smriti Mandhana, Deepti?? Sharma (Sydney Thunder), Shafali Verma, Radha Yadav (Sydney Sixers), Jemimah Rodrigues, Harmanpreet Kaur (Melbourne Renegades), and Richa Ghosh (Hobart Hurricanes), Poonam Yadav (Brisbane Heat?).

he Indian Women’s team displayed immense character to reach the finals of Women’s T20 World Cup in Australia. The Blue Brigade remained invincible throughout the?? tournament, only to be beaten in the finals at the hands of ??host Australia at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

One of the spirited performers for?? India in the tournament, Poonam Yadav, picked up 10 wickets in 5 matches of the tournament. She remained the highest?? wicket-taker in the multilateral competition only behind Australian seamer Megan Schutt who scalped 13.

In a recent interaction on Twitter via hashtag AskPY, the leg-spinner revealed about her favourite cricketers. Poonam named former Indian captain MS Dhoni?? as her favorite cricketer, along with former Indian women’s team international Neetu Davids.

Throughout the T20 World Cup, Yadav’s four-over spell turned out to be the deciding factor in the match. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur used her ace ?spinner brilliantly to provide essential br?eakthroughs in the middle overs.

Poonam, more often than not, delivered for the team whenever a wicket was demanded of her.
Her 4/10 spell ripped through the mighty Australian batting lineup in the tournament opener. Yadav impressed one and all with her deception?, flight, and execution of googly, which bam?boozled several batters.

However, on the big stage, the five-time World Champions bull-dozed over India by smashing bowlers to all parts of the ground. Indian batting order capitulated under pressure. As a result, handing ??hosts a massive victory.

Indian women’s cricket team star bowler Poonam Yadav had a tremendous T20 World Cup, which recently took place in Australia. She went on to grab 10 scalps and finished at second place in the leading wicket-takers list. Her incredible show helped ‘Women in Blue’ to reach their maiden T20 WC final.

A few hours back, Poonam ran a ‘Q/A’ session with her fans on Twitter, where she interacted with her followers and also responded to their queries.

A fan asked the leg-spinner who she thinks has the ability to hit a double century in women’s cricket.

Poonam answered the question by taking the name of her team-mate and India opener Smriti Mand??hana.

“I think @mandhana_smriti What do you think? #AskPY” tweeted Poonam.

Smriti has accumulated 2025 runs so far in her ODI career. ?She also has four hundreds and 17 half-centuries to her name.

In ano?ther query, a fan asked Poonam to rate th??e toughest batter she faced in her career.

The leggie replied and took the name of New Zealand women all-??rounder Sophie Devine.

Sophie has played 105 ODI and 91 T20I matches, in which she has clubbed 2570 and 2384 runs, respecti??vely. The Wellington-born has also taken 71 wickets in ODI cricket and 87 in the shortest format of the game.

Amid Covid-19 outbreak, cricketers are trying to engage themselves in various activities to pass the time as there is no cricket tournament or series takin?g place at present.

Recently, many players took to Twitter to interact with their fans. Indian women cricketer Poonam Yadav also joined the list as she ran a ‘Question and Answer’ session where she responded to a lot of queries.

A fan asked Poonam her favourite team in the Indian Premier League (IPL) if women’s league takes place in the future.

The leg-spinner reacted to the question and said she wants to play for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) if given a chance in the women’s IPL.

“Given a chance, I would love to roll my arm over for @ChennaiIPL,” Poonam tweeted.

Another fan asked Poonam, who is ??her favourite leg-spinner in world cricket, to which the Indian leggie took the name of legendary Shane Warne.

In the recently concluded women’s T20 World Cup, Poonam performed outstandingly well and played a vital role in India’s journey to the finals. She ended the mega event at second place in most wickets list. The Agra-born spinner bagged 10 wickets in the tournament.

India ace leg-spinner Poonam Yadav still finds it difficult to move on from the?? loss in the finals of the T20 World Cup in Aust?ralia.

India, who remained unbeaten throughout the tournament, reached the finals of the competition on the back of Poonam’s magical spells, and Shafali Varma’s explosive starts.

Yadav finished second in the tally of wickets (10?? wickets in 5 games) in the tournament, only behind Megan Schutt.

However, midway through India’s long tour Down Under, former Indian captain Diana Edulji questioned the team’s mentality in big matches.

India also lost to the Australians in the Women’s T20 Tri-series, which featured England as the third side. The criticism gained momentum as India lost another game at the big stage.

“We lost just one match ?the final ?but that hurt us. It’s a game after all, and the team which played better, won,” Yadav told Sportstar.

This is now the second time the Indian women’s team came heartbreakingly close to an ICC World title. The Blue Brigade also had a dream run in the ODI World Cup in England back in 2018.

In that tournament as well, India was not able to cross the finishing line in the finals??, losing out to hosts England. Therefore, Yadav rued about not being able to be felicitated with the gold medal f??or once.

“I am tired of finishing runners-up twice, pata nahi gold kab milega! But 2021 World Cup should be ours, and we will go all out to chase our dreams,” added the most successful bowler for India in T20Is.

Coming back from an injury, Poo??nam ripped through the powerful Australian batting?? lineup in the opening match of the T20 World Cup, with her spell of 4/19.

“All I thought was to play to my potential and not let my team down. It was, after all, the first game of the T20 World Cup, so I made sure that I backed my team-mates well. That definitely helped me in scalping those four wickets,” Yadav reflected on her performance against the Aussies.

After the conclusion of the 2020 Women’s T20 World Cup, ICC released the list of Best XI players in the tournament on Monday. Unsurprisingly, five Australians out of the eleven players make their way into the list.

?Meg Lanning, who stood firm in the middle-order pacing few critical contributions in knockouts, also comes?? in as captain of the side. She scored 132 runs at an average of 44 in the series.

Four English women featured in th??e team, namely Nat Sciver, Heather Knight, and spinning pair of Sophie Ecclestone and Anya Shrubsole.

Poonam Yadav is the sole Indian to feature in the list, while batting heroics from Laura Wolvaardt helped her to get a place in the XI. Shafali Verma has bee?n included in?? the side as the 12th Player.

India will take on the hosts Australia in the big final of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup on Sunday.

Ahead of the final, Global music superstar Katy Perry visited the iconic Melbourne?? Cricket Ground (MCG), where she will be ??performing live before and after the summit clash between the two sides.

During her interaction with Harmanpreet Kaur & Co., Katy was curious to know about the composition of the Indian team for the finals. While experienced Veda Krishnamurthy said that the rules don’t allow them to reveal the playing XI before the toss, it was young Jemimah Rodrigues who left everyone in splits with her reply.

Responding to Katy’s query, Rodrigues asked the American singer to call her and she will reveal the XI.

“You can call me tomorrow, I can tell you,” Jemimah said.

The T20 World Cup’s official Twitter handle posted the video of Katty interacting with the Women in Blue on Saturday.

“Not even @katyperry is allowed to know the India team for tomorrow,” the video was captioned.

India entered their maiden Women’s T20 World Cup final after their semi-final clash against England was washed out in Sydney on Thursday, March 5.

Australia, on the other hand, defeated South Africa in the second semi-final at SCG. The defending champions entered their sixth consecutive final in the tournament’s history; they have been a part of every Women’s T20 World Cup final since 2010.

India’s women team became the first to qualify for the semi-finals of the ICC Women’s T20 World after clinching a nail-biting thriller against New Zealand by 4 runs at the Junction Oval in Melbourne.

This is now India’s third consecutive win in the tournament, which enabled them to top the charts in Group A. Earlier in the day, the White Ferns won the toss and put India to bat first. Just when India was looking to build on their positive start, they received a major jolt with star opener Smriti Mandhana playing the ball onto her stumps.

Shafali Verma and Tanya Bhatia t??ried to consolidate with their composed partnership, but the latter succumbed to relentless pressure against disciplined bowling from the New Zealand attack.

The inning also witnessed a different facet of Verma’s batting who intended to anchor through the Indian total with wickets falling at the other end, and still managed a strike rate of above 135, thanks to her four boundaries and three maximums. She was later rewarded with the player of the match title for her efforts.

The Blue Brigade was struggling with the wicket of Shafali, reducing them to 95/5.
?? But late onslaught from Radha Yadav and Shikha Pandey helped their team post a competitive total of 133 for the loss of 8 wickets in their 20 ??overs.

Spells from Rosemary Mair and Amelia Kerr, who picked up a couple of wickets each, consistently put the brakes on Indian proceedings. Coming out to bat, the New Zealand women’s team received a flying start with 12 runs off the very first over.

But a wicket in the subsequent over, followed by the dismissals of Kiwi giants Suzie Bates and Sophie Devine, left New Zealand tottering at 38-3 by the end of 9th over. It was the partnership between Maddy Green and Katy Martin’s put the Kiwis back into the contest.

All of the Indian bowlers constantly applied pressure on the White Ferns, with wickets at regular intervals, backed by their fielders. By t?he end of the innings, all five Indian bowlers used picked a wicket each.

The see-saw battle between the two sides continued with Kerr’s knock. She took India’s ace spinner, Poonam Yadav, with eight wickets under her belt already in the tournament, for 18 runs in the penultimate over of the match, with 34 required to win.

Shikha Pandey, with? 16 re??quired off the final over, was handed the ball. The match turned out to be the last-ball thriller with five runs required off the last delivery.

The behind the wicket shots, which enabled Kerr to score as many as 34 off 18 balls, ultimately led to New Zealand’s downfall, as Pandey nailed a perfect yorker.

Leg-spinner Poonam Yadav claimed three wickets and opener Shafali Verma scored a quickfire 39 as India defeated Bangladesh by 18 runs in a Group A match of the 2020 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in Perth on Monday.

After asked to bat first, India posted a comp?etitive 142-6 on the board and then returned to restrict Bangladesh to 124-8 to notch up their second successive win in the showpiece event.??

Chasing 143 to win, Murshida Khatun scored a 26-ball 30 after her opening partner Shamima Sultana was sent packing in the second over by Shikha Pandey. Once Arundhati Reddy removed Khatun, Nigar Sultana (35) tried to keep them in the hunt, but Bangladesh struggled against the quality spin bowling of Poonam (3/18), who derailed Bangladesh’s chase.

Pandey (2/14) and Arundhati Reddy (2/33) took tw??o wickets each, while Ra??jeshwari Gayakwad (1/25) scalped one wicket.

Earlier, in the absence of her opening partner Smriti Mandhana, 16-year-old Shafali gave India a flying start. Shafali smashed a 17-ball 39 with two fours and four sixes. Jemimah Rodrigues also scored a crucial 37-ball 34, but the rest of the batters failed to fire as India’s run-rate took a hit.

Down the order, Veda Krishnamurthy smashed 20 off 11 balls ?laced with four fours to lift India to a fighting total. For Bangladesh, skipper Salma Khatun (2/25) and Panna Ghosh (2/25) claimed two wickets each.
