Delhi Capitals (DC) registered a dominant six-wicket victory over Gujarat Giants (GG), propelling themselves to the top of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 standings. After winning the toss, Delhi opted to field first, a decision that paid off handsomely as the Giants struggled to put up a competitive total. The Giants managed only 127/9 in their allotted 20 overs, a target that Delhi comfortably chased down in just 15.3 overs. Jess Jonassen’s stunning 61 not out off 32 deliveries played ?a crucial role in securing Delhi’s emphatic win.

Delhi Capitals’ bowlers decimate Gujarat Giants’ batting line-up

The match started on a disastrous note for the Giants as Delhi’s bowlers ripped through their top order in the powerplay. Shikha Pandey and Marizanne Kapp were ruthless with the new ball, sending back Harleen Deol (5), Phoebe Litchfield (0), Beth Mooney (10) and Kashvee Gautam (0) within the first five overs. Gujarat found themselves reeling at 20/4, struggling to stitch together any significant partnership. Even as Deandra Dottin (26) tried to stabilize the innings, Titas Sadhu struck to remove Ashleigh Gardner, leaving the Giants in deeper trouble. Annabel Sutherland then delivered another blow by dismissing Dottin, ensuring the Giants never recovered from their early collapse. In the end, despite some resistance fro??m the lower order, the Giants could only muster 127 runs for the loss of nine wickets.

Jess Jonassen and Shafali Verma seal the win

Delhi’s chase began with an early hiccup as captain Meg Lanning was dismissed for just 3 runs by Gautam in the fourth over. However, the duo of Shafali Verma and Jonassen quickly steadied the ship. They built a solid 74-run partnership, with Verma leading the charge initially, scoring 44 off 27 balls, including five fours and three sixes. Once Verma departed, Jonassen took over, accelerating the chase with a commanding innings. Her blistering 61 not out off 32 deliveries, featuring eight fours and two sixes, made the chase a mere formality. Jemimah Rodrigues played a supporting role, contributing five runs before falling, but by then, Delhi were firmly in control. Jonassen’s finishing touch ensured Delhi reached the target with 27 balls to spare, markin?g a comprehensive victory.

Delhi Capitals (DC) made a dominant start in Match 10 of Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 as their bowlers ripped through Gujarat Giants’ (GG) top order in the powerplay at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. Marizanne Kapp and Shikha Pandey led the charge, striking early to leave Gujarat Giants reeling at 20/4 within the first five overs. Harleen Deol, Phoebe Litchfield, Beth Mooney and Kashvee Gautam fell cheaply as Delhi’s disciplined bowling attack exposed Gujarat’s batting frailties.

Marizanne Kapp strikes early to dismantle the Gujarat Giants’ top-order

The Capitals came out firing on all cylinders in the powerplay, with Kapp leading the charge in a devastating opening spell. The damage began on the first ball of her second over when she produced a textbook outswinger with Deol fishing at it outside. The extra movement off the surface forced an indecisive poke, resulting in a straightforward catch to wicketkeeper Sarah Bryce. Deol, who had been promoted to open, never looked comfortable and departed for 5 off 10 balls, giving Delhi an early breakt??hrough.

If that wasn’t enough, Kapp delivered another lethal blow just three balls later, trapping Litchfield LBW with a sharp in-swinging delivery. The Australian batter misjudged the length, failing to account for the late movement and was caught plumb in front. A desperate review only ?confirmed her fate, as Hawk-Eye showed all three reds, making it a golden start for Kapp and the Capitals. The Giants were reeling at 16/2, with both openers back in the pavilion.

Shikha Pandey continues the wreckage with twin strikes

If Giants thought things couldn’t get worse, Shikha ensured their misery deepened. With her very second delivery of the match, Pandey exacted revenge on Mooney, who had struck her for a boundary earlier. Pandey cleverly adjusted her angle and came around the wicket, angling the ball into Mooney. The Giants former captain attempted a pick-up shot towards the longer boundary, but mistimed it completely, offering a simple catch to Niki Prasad at long leg. The Capitals?camp erupted in joy as Moo?ney departed for 10 off 11 balls, leaving her team in disarray at 20/3.

Pandey wasn’t done yet. The very next ball, she delivered a well-directed short-?pitched delivery that climbed sharply on Gautam. The batter attempted a pull shot but was completely undone by the steep bounce, skying it high towards deep midwicket. Once again, Niki positioned herself perfectly, sprinting in and diving forward to grab an outstanding low catch. With two wickets in two balls, Pandey had completely rattled Gujarat’s top order, reducing them to 20/4 in just 4??.3 overs.

The one-off Test between Australia and England as the final face-off in the Women’s Ashes 2025 has not brought any positive news for England. The dreadful show from the visitors continued on Day 1 of the pink ball Test. The tipping point of the already derailed English innings was when Phoebe Litchfield took an epic catch to send Danni Wyatt-Hodge back to the pavi?lion and further pushed the English batters into the corner.

Phoebe Litchfield’s stunning catch shatters England’s hopes

England had a dreadful start to the innings after the home side won the toss and elected to bowl first. The English openers Tasmin Beaumont and Maia Bouchier could not withstand the Australian onslaught and gave their wickets away cheaply. Heather Knight and Sophia Dunkley tried t??o stabilize the English innings ??but the Australian bowlers?determined effort proved too much for them.

The last notable pair to add some runs in the English total was Wyatt-Hodge and Nat Sciver-Brunt. Just when it appeared that England finally have a partnership t??o save their innings from a crushing end, the phenomenal catch from Litchfield changed the cour?se of the game.

The game-changing catch took place in the 49th over of the innings, as a tossed up full-length delivery from Alana King took an unexpected turn and hit the tip of Hodge’s bat as she aimed to play it towards the leg side. The leading edge drifted towards the silly point where Litchfield was intentionally deployed by the Australian skipper to take advantage of such moments. She dived towards the side and took a one-handed ??stunner to send Hodge back to the pavilion.

The impressive run from Alana King continued

Australia’s ace spinner continued her impressive form from white-ball cricket and proved detrimental to English batters. King’s disciplined line and length and constant une??xpected turning deliveries was the highlight of the Australian bowling onslaught against the English batters.

King bowled 23 overs in the match and sent 4 England batters back to the pavilion giving just 45 runs in the process. Crucially, she bowled 6 maidens during her remarkable spell which further exerted added pressure to the England batting line-up. The 29-year-old is the leading wicket-taker of the Women’s Ashes so far and has 18 dismissals to her name in 7 matc?hes.

After a thrilling contest in ODI and T20I series between Australia and England at the Women’s Ashes 2025, the red-ball cricket is back in action with its scintillating experience and cinematic clashes between the bat and the bowl. Australia have already won the Ashes after dominating England in the ODI and T20I battles. However, the? English side would look forward to?? bridge the gap between the two teams and finally register a win in the prestigious bilateral series.

A heated past between the two sides in Tests

Test matches were the traditional decider for determining the winner of the Women’s Ashes series until 2013, when the multi-format Ashes was introduced. This new format incorporated One Day Internationals (ODIs) and T20Is alongside the classic red-ball Tes??t match, adding a dyn??amic element to the contest.

Since the multi-format series came into play, England has only managed to claim victory in the Test match once, when they defeated Australia by 61 runs in Perth during the 2013-14 series. Despite suffering heavy losses in the white-ball formats, which resulted in an overall series defeat, England remained determined to ove??rturn their poor record in Test cricket against the dominant Australians. They will be keen to rewrite history and make a mark in the traditional format during future encounters.

In the light of wh??at is expected to be a brea??th-taking contest between the two sides in the longest format of the game here are 5 key battles to watch out for in the one-off Test between these arch-rivals.

AUS-W vs ENG-W: 5 key battles to watch out for in Women’s Ashes

1) Heather Knight vs Alana King

The England skipper Heather Knight tried to save her team’s prospects in this year’s Ashes particularly in the T20I format where her emphatic performances brought England right back into the game many times. However, she could not sail her team through Australia’s determined bowling effort in the limited overs format. The star batter would try to do that in Test cricket and get some sort of positive result from Australia this time around. She will be up against the remarkable Australian all-rounder Alana King who has been the leading wicket-taker in the ODI series and could pull out another wonder-show with the bowl at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) as the match progresses.

2) Nat Sciver-Brunt vs Ellyse Perry

With 115 runs in 3 innings, Nat Sciver-Brunt was the standout performer for England with the bat in the ODI series, the right-handed batter would like to continue her fine form in the longest format of the game and score some valuable runs for her side. Standing in her way would be the breath-taking Australian all-rounder Ellyse Perry. The 34-year-old hasn’t bow?led much in the Women’s Ashes this year but can still trouble any batter on her day. She has managed to clinch a total of 39 wickets with a best bowling figure of 6/32 in the 13 matches she has played for her national side so far.

3) Beth Mooney vs Sophie Ecclestone

Australian wicket-keeper batter Beth Mooney is in fine form with the bat in the Ashes series so far with 303 runs in 6 innings, making her the top-scorer of the series. The left-hander would aim to secure another stellar innings against England and end her Ashes campaign with her head held high. The 31-year-old would be up against Sophie Ecclestone who has been sensational with the bowl even though England’s Ashes ru?n has not been up to the mark. The ace spinner has clinched 11 wickets i?n this series so far, second only to King.

4) Georgia Voll vs Kate Cross

The young Australian opening batter Georgia Voll would like to set the tone of her international career with a memorable knock starting off the Australian innings in the Test encounter against England. The 21-year-old would face the likes of England’s pace sensation, Kate Cross who is eyeing a ret8urn in the ??squad following her name being ruled out before the ODI series due to a back injury. Cross carries the ability to provide lateral seam movement during the early hours of t??he Test which can trouble the Australian opening pair.

5) Phoebe Litchfield vs Lauren Bell

The rising star of Australian batting order, Phoebe Litchfield managed to impress the cricketing world and made 102 runs in 6 innings. The Test face-off against England would be an ideal situation foe her to display her technique and temperament. The English all-rounder Lauren Bell would aim to derail her innings. The 24-year-old has proved out to be a handy bowling inclusion in the English?? squad and can trouble batter Australian batters in the transition overs.

The Women’s Ashes 2025 has entered another exciting chapter of white-ball cricket with the beginning of the first T20I between the Australia and England women. The Australian Women team has remained undefeated during the 3-match ODI series between the two nations and have set their eyes to win the first 1st T20I in order to ultimately win another Women’s Ashes.

A fine glimpse of batting display solidifying their quest to claim the Ashes came at the hands of Australia’s top-order batter Phoebe Litchfield as she hit a ra?ther unconventional six to add to the already exciting display of batting from the Aussies.

Phoebe Litchfield hammers a massive six

Litchfield arrived on to the crease during the 4th over of the match when debutant Georgia Voll was sent back to the pavilion after a valian??t display of 21 runs off 11 balls. The ace top-order batter, after spending some time on the pitch took the offensive matters into her own hands and started wreaking havoc on English bowlers.

The highlight moment of her short-lived but crucial innings came when during the 8th over of the innings she took a full length delivery from Sarah Glenn on her bat by instantly switching sides anticipating the pitch of the ball. The otherwise left-handed batter turned on her right and smashed a six towards the off side for a scintillating six, astonishing the English players and crowd at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).

Her unconventional six was the only maximum in her 25-run innings off 20 balls before was unfortunately run-out by Heather Knight in an outstanding display of fielding. Litchfield crucially provided a solid support base to wicket-keeper opener Beth Mooney who played a remarkable innings of 75 runs off 51 ball?s.

In an outstanding display of her batting prowess, Australia made a respectable total of 198 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in their 20 overs. Mooney’s stable and skillful innings was the highlight of the Australian innings. Additionally, she was supported well by Voll, Litchfield and skipper Tahila McGrath who made 21, 25 and 26 runs respectively.

The English bowling display had a night to forget at the SCG. Lauren Bell and Sophie Ecclestone were the only bowlers who had some impact on the Australian batters. Both English bowlers took 2 Australian wickets each. Glenn had a rough game with the ball as she gave away 40 runs in just 3 overs that she bowled without taking a ?wicket.

A moment of pure brilliance lit up the third Women’s Ashes 2025 ODI between Australia and England as Phoebe Litchfield pulled off an extraordinary catch to dismiss the dangerous Danni Wyatt-Hodge.

Phoebe Litchfield’s sensational catch to dismiss Danni Wyatt- Hodge

Chasing a challenging target, England were cruising on the back of Wyatt-Hodge’s fluent 35 off 32 balls when Alana King delivered a? teasing delivery, on fifth ball of the 37th over, entic??ing an aggressive shot. Wyatt-Hodge, in fine form, aimed to loft the ball inside out over extra cover, but what followed was a spectacle of athleticism and skill.

Litchfield, stationed at extra cover, immediately anticipated the trajectory and sprinted backward, eyes fixed on the ball. As it descended, she executed a full-stretch dive, both hands outstretched, completing a stunning two-handed catch just inches off the ground. The effort left spectators in awe, as it wasn’t just a catch – it was a game-defining moment. The dismissal not only broke a flourishing partnership between Nat Sciver-Brunt and Wyatt-Hodge but also reaffirmed Litchfield’s reputation as one of the sharpest fielders in the game. Australia, under pressure, once again showcased their ability to turn matches with f?ielding brillian??ce, and Litchfield’s extraordinary effort epitomized their unrelenting determination.
