Central Districts cricketer Will Young recently made his Test debut for New Zealand in the two-match series against West Indies. He was picked in the playing XI in place of Kane Williamson, who had taken paternity leave.

After Williamson’s return, Young couldn’t get a chance to show his talent in the Test series against Pakistan as he was the 12th man. But Young didn’t take long to make a big impact when he came to field on Day 4 of the second Test as a substitute fielder for the injured Henry Nicholls.

Young grabbed a one-handed diving catch at point to dismiss Pakistan opener Abid Ali for 26 at Hagley Oval in Christchurch.

It all happened in the 30th over bowled by pacer Kyle Jamieson when A??li played a front foot drive, but the lack of timing forced the ball to travel towards backward point where Young was stationed. The North Islander dived to his right and plucked a stunner.

Pakistan were bundled out for 186 in their second innings, thereby losing the contest by an innings and 176 runs. It was ??undoubtedly a thumping win for the Blackcaps as they climbed to the top of the Test rank??ings.

Jamieson was the pick of the bowlers for the hosts as he ended the second Test with 11 wickets (five in first innin??gs and six in the second). After the epic victory, Kiwi skipper hailed Jamieson for his outstanding show, terming him a special cricketer.

“It’s an incredible couple of games. Even though the result on paper was in our favour, but Pakistan is a quality side. We worked hard and got lucky with a few moments. Kyle is a special cricketer. He’s gone a long way to moving this team forward and complementing the bowling attack,” said Williamson at the post-match presentation.

Williamson appreciated?? the way his team performed in both the Tests against Pakistan. He expressed happiness for finishing the New Zealand summer on a high note.

“Daryl bats higher and bowls a few more overs, but the attitude both of them brought in was great to see. I am sure there are many more hundreds to come Daryl’s way. It was a real battle for a long time. The openers gave us a great start and Nicholls batted with a calf muscle injury, and it was an incredible effort. Really pleasing performance, nice to finish the Test summer on a high,” added Williamson.

New Zealand paceman Kyle Jamieson has impressed one and all with his remarkable bowling in the second Test against Pakistan at Hagley Oval, Christchurch.

The Kiwi pacer was unplayable throughout the match. On Day 1, he took a five-wicket haul for 69 to restrict th??e vis?itors at 297 in their first innings.

Not only with his extremely good bowling, but Jamieson also grabbed attention wit?h his humble behaviour with a fan who came to support the Black Ca??ps.

It all happened during the first day’s play for the final Test when the tall fast bowler signed a bald man’s head. The supporter was happy with the gesture as he seemed to pump his fists in joy.

Jamieson’s second fifer takes Black Caps to victory

Jamieson continued from where he left when Pakistan came to bat in thei??r second innings. The speedster picked up his second five-wicket haul of the match and took his side to yet another massive win over Pakistan.

Jamieson had already taken Shan Masood‘s wicket at the end of third day’s play as Pakistan finished at 8/1. When the tourists resumed the fourth day, Trent Boult provided the first breakthrough when he sent back nightwatchman Mohammad Abbas for 3 in the fifth over.

It was then all about Jamieson, who removed Abid Ali for 26 followed by the dismissal of Haris Sohail for 15. The Kiwi paceman removed heroes of the first innings Azhar Ali (37) and stand-in skipper Mohammad Rizwan (10).

Faheem Ashraf, who showed some fightback with 28 off 65, became another victim of Jamieson as the bowler ??claimed his sixth wicket. With five sca?lps in the first innings and six in the second, Jamieson also became the first bowler to complete a 10 wicket-haul in a Test at Hagley Oval.

After 81.4 overs on Day 4, P??akistan were b??undled out on 186, losing the second Test by an innings and 176 runs.

New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson notched up his fourth Test double-ton while Henry Nicholls and Daryl Mitchell smashed centuries in the second and final Test against Pakistan in Christchurch on Tuesday.

Williamson scored 238 and added a marathon 369-run stand for the fourth wic?ket ??with Nicholls, who made 157.

Captain? Kane then allowed Mitchell to complete his maiden Tes??t hundred before declaring their first innings on 659 for 6.

The Mohammad Rizwan??-led Pakistan, who were bundled out for 297 in their first innings, finished Day 3 on 8/1, still trailing by 354 runs and staring at an innings defeat.

The final Test of the two-match series between New Zealand and Pakistan began on Sunday (January 03) at th??e Hagley Oval in C??hristchurch.

Put in to bat first; the visiting got bundled out on 297 in 83.5 overs. Former leader Azhar Ali was the top highlight of Pakistan batting as he scored a tremendous 93-run knock while stand-in skipper Mohammad Rizwan brought up a crucial half-century (61).

Faheem Ashraf and Zafar Gohar also made valuable contributions with 48 and 34 runs r?espectiv?ely.

Apart from the decent batting display by the abovementioned players, there was another Pakistani cricketer who grabbed limelight during the innings. It was none other than Naseem Shah, who was spotted suggesting number 11 batsman Mohammad Abbas to give him a quick single in order to scor?e some runs.

Naseem was caught on stump mic conveying the message to his partner that all the responsibility is now on his shoulders to score runs. Naseem also added that he would be on the receiving end of backlash if Abbas doesn’t give him strike soon.

“Abbas bhai, Abbas bhai, aapko pata bhi hai sari zimedaari mere uper hai. Single karna hai warna daant par jayegi (Abbas brother, you know all the responsibility is on me now. You have to take a single else you will get scolded in dressing room),” said Naseem.

Williamson scored 24th Test century

On Day 2, New Zealand started the proceedings and were reduced to 71/3 in 30 overs. Tom Latham scored 30 while Tom Blundell was dismissed for 16. Similarly, Ross Taylor also fell cheaply on 12 runs.

Then, Kiwi skipper Kane Williamson and middle-order batsman Henry Nicholls took charg??e and comp?letely dominated the entire day.

New Zealand’s young sensation Kyle Jamieson impressed again with his superb performance in the ongoing second Test against Pakistan at Hagley Oval in Christchurch on Sunday.

The right-arm speedster picked up a five-wicket haul as the host?s bowled out visitors for 297. It was the third occasion when Jameison claimed a fifer in Test cricket. He f?inished the Day 1 with five scalps for 69 runs in 21 overs.

However, at one stage, Pakistan struggled on 83/4, before former captain Azhar Ali and current stand-in skipper Mohammad Rizwan took?? charge to take their team out of hot waters.

The pair we?nt on to add a crucial stand of 88 runs for the fifth wicket before Jamieson broke the ??partnership and removed Rizwan for a well made 61.

On the other hand, Ali kept on tickling the scoreboard and formed another vital partnership with Faheem Ashraf (48). Both the batters stitched 56 runs for the sixth wicket. Ali was looking set to score his 18th Test ton, but, Matt Henry dismissed him on 93.

Nerve-racking?, nail-biting and full of excitement, the last Test of 2020 had all the possible ingredients ?to entertain fans.

Eventually, New Zealand defeated Pakistan by 101 runs, but it wasn’t that easy for the hosts. The visitors exhibited top-class cricket and fighting spirit to push the game deep on the final day at Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui.

Pakistan started the fifth day with an overnight score of 71/3, and Trent Boult provided the breakthrough straightaway after he nicked Azhar Ali (38) in the second over. The Kiwi bowlers would have anticipated an early finish, but Fawad Alam (102) and stand-in skipper Mohammad Rizwan (60) had some other plans.

While Fawad notched up his second Test century (the first one came way back in 2009), Rizwan smashed his second fifty of the match. Both the batters were looking set to take the game away from Black Caps. However, Kyle Jamieson came for New Zealand’s rescue in the 103rd over when he broke the 165-run stand by trapping Rizwan lbw. Three overs later, Neil Wagner joined the party and dismissed centurion Fawad.

In the match’s final few minutes, tailenders Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah did their best to negotiate more than seven overs, but Mitchell Santner ended the Pakistan hopes of a draw with a brilliant caught ??and bowled off Naseem in th?e 124th over.

With th??e victory, New Zealand have reached the top of the ICC Trest rankings fo??r the first time.

Speedster Tim Southee became the third New Zealand bowler to take 300 Test wickets on Tuesday. In the ongoing first Test against Pakistan at Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui, when Southee dismissed Haris Sohail in the 18th over, the Kiwi pacer register??ed his name in the record books.

Black Caps edge closer to victory over Pakistan

Southee has so far taken four wickets in t??he Test. In the first innings, the right-armer bagged two scalps for 69 in 26 overs. While in the second innings, Southee has bowled 9 overs and taken two wickets for 15 runs.

At stumps on Day 4, Pakistan have reached 71/3, and they are still 202 runs behind, with Azhar Ali (34 not out) and Fawad Alam (21 not out). The unbroken 34-run partnership between Azhar and Fawad has helped?? visitors recover from a dreadful start that saw them two wickets down without troubling the scorers.

Earlier, New Zealand set Pakistan a target of 373 to win after leading by 192 on the first innings and declaring its second innings at 180/5. Tom Blundell and Tom Latham smashed tremendous half-centuries. Wh??ile Blundell mad?e 64, Latham contributed with 53 runs.
