After Alzarri Joseph dismissed Zak Crawley for a duck in the very first over, Pope stepped in to stabilize the innings. He formed a vital 105-run partnership with Ben Duckett, who scored a br?isk 71 off 59 balls before being dismissed.

After Shaheen Afridi‘s historic four wickets in the first over of T20 Blast 2023, another Pakistani player Imad Wasim took everyone by surprise as he bowled a double-wicket maiden over in the 3rd quarter-final match of the English league on Friday (July 7). Wasim’s sensational spell came for Nottinghamshire in a last-over thriller against Somerset.

Winning the toss and electing to bat first, Nottinghamshire’s innings got off to a shaky start as Joe Clarke and Alex Hales departed early without contributing much to the scoreboard. Although Colin Munro showe??d some promise with a quickfire ten off six deliveries, wick??ets kept falling at regular intervals for Nottinghamshire.

Matthew Montgomery steadied the innings with a well-constructed knock of 51 off 38 deliveries, comprising eight fours. Wasim provided a late flourish with his blistering 31 off just 15 balls, including two fours and a six, helping Nottinghamshire finish their inni?ngs at 157/ 6 in ??their allotted 20 overs. Somerset’s bowling attack put up an impressive display, with Craig Overton being the pick of the bowlers, claiming two wickets while conced??ing only 23 runs in his quot?a of four overs.

Chasing a target of 158, Somerset failed to start well as Tom Banton and Tom Kohler-Cadmore fell early without making significant contributions. Both Banton and Kohler-Cadmore fell victim to Wasim’s web of spin, which eventually turned out to be a double-wicket maiden over for the all-rounder.

However, despite a few early setbacks, Will Smeed (22 off 18 balls) and Tom Abell (26 off 21 balls) steadied the ship and kept the innings going for Somerset. But it was Lewis Gregory who turned the game in Somerset’s favour with his exceptional batting display. He played a blistering knock of 57 runs off just 34 deliveries, which included one four and five sixes. Gregory’s aggressive approach put the Nottinghamshire bowlers on the back foot and tilted the match in Somerset’s favour. Vitality Blast 2023 witnessed an exhilarating encounter between Nottinghamshire and Warwickshire in the North Group at Trent Bridge. Moores smashed 73 runs off just 42 balls, comprising six fours and four sixes. However, despite Moores’ heroics, the rest of the Nottinghamshire batting lineup struggled to contribute significantly. Chasing a target of 169 runs, Warwickshire faced a few early setbacks courtesy of a sensational opening over from Nottinghamshire pacer Shaheen. Coming back to the match, despite the terrible start, Warwickshire managed to pull off a win against Nottinghamshire. Robert Yates played a remarkable innings for his team and scored impressive 65 runs off 46 deliveries. Derbyshire Falcons locked horns with Nottinghamshire Outlaws in the 69th match of the Vitality T20 Blast 2023. However, Derbyshire failed to break the T20 jinx against Nottinghamshire. The Outlaws controlled their nerves to claim a three-wicket victory in a tight game. The Falcons fought till the end in defending a modest total of 1??42/6. But Pakistan cricketer Shaheen Shah Afridi smashed two sixes in the second last over as the Outlaws got home with eight balls to spare. Nottinghamshire rises to the second spot in North Group

When it comes to the chase, Lancashire lost wickets at regular intervals, but a half-century stand for the seventh wicket between Steven Croft (41) and Luke Wood (33 no) took the game down to the wire.

However, when the Dane Vilas-led side needed 20 from 9 balls, a well-set Steven Croft was sent back to the hut by Jake Ball, ending Lancashire’s hopes as they eventually fell short by seven runs.

The thrilling victory has taken Nottinghamshire to the second spot on the points table in the North Group. It was their fifth triumph out of a total of nine matches. The leader of the table are Yorkshire, with six wins out of nine games.
