Opening batter Hollie Armitage was the only bright spot for Central Districts in the game against Northern Districts. She ended up scoring a well-made 61 runs from 48 balls, including five boundaries. Rest of the batters never really stood up as the team got bundled out for j??ust 112.

Jess Watkin, Athapaththu sizzle in the chase

Chasing the paltry target, the Northern Districts managed to finish the game in 12.4 overs with nine wickets in hand. Captain Jess Watkin remai?ned unbeaten on 51 from 32 balls, including 7 fours and a six. Athapaththu, on the other hand, played a handy knock of 45 runs with the help of 8 fours a??nd a six. The Women’s Super Smash 2024/25 season is set to kick off on December 26 at Seddon Park, Hamilton, alongside the men’s competition, marking a significant milestone in New Zealand cr?icket.

Defending champions Wellington Blaze will enter the tournament as favourites, aiming to extend their record as the most successful team in the league’s history, having claimed eight titles. Close contenders Canterbury Magicians, with four championships to their name, will look to challenge the Blaze’s dominance.

Teams and Format

The tournament features six teams: Auckland Hearts, Canterbury Magicians, Wellington Blaze, Central Hinds, Northern Districts and Otago Sparks. The competition wil??l follow a double round-robin format, where each team will play home-and-away matches. The top three teams at the end of the preliminary stage will advance to the playoffs, culminating in the grand final at the Basin Reserve on Februar?y 2.

Unlike the league stage, which does not feature Super Overs for tied matches, the playo??ff rounds will include provisions for Super?? Overs, ensuring decisive outcomes in the knockout games.

The upcoming edition celebrates 20 years of T20 cricket in New Zealand, with a nostalgic?? touch as teams don retro-style jerseys inspired by the first-ever T20I between White Ferns and Southern Stars (now Australia women), played at Eden Park two decades ago.

Joe Carter and Brett Hampton on Tuesday created a world record by smashing 43 runs in an over including six sixes. While there are endless possibilities of how much can a bowler concede in an over, the duo has comfortably beat?en the List A record for most runs in an over.

Carter and Hampton achieved the record feat during New Zealand’s domestic one-day cricket match in Hamilton while batting for Northern Districts against Central Districts.

On?? the receiving end of the onslaught by Carter and Hampton was South Africa-born pacer Willem Ludick. In the over of 43 runs, two came from the no balls. Hampton struck 23 runs while Carter scored 18 runs off the last three deliveries.

Hampton began Ludick’s over with a boundary, struck two sixes off two consecutive no ball deliveries, struck another six before taking a single to give the strike to Carter.

Carter made the best of the momentum with his partner and struck three mo?re sixes to take the tally to 43 runs.
