In the recently concluded warm-up game between India and New Zealand XI at Seddon Park in Ham?ilton, Prithvi Sha?w had a couple of forgettable outings.

After getting dismissed without opening his account ?in the first innings, Shaw lost his middle stump to all-rounder Daryll Mitchell, while playing an expansive drive through the on-side, in the second innings.

The Mumbai-ope??ner looked to continue his template of counter-attacking stro?ke play through his breezy knock of 39 off just 31 deliveries, with six scorching boundaries.

However, he looked to play one shot too many times and gave ?his wicket to Mitchell, who terrorized the Indian batting order with three wickets in the second inning?s.

After a racy start, ??the Indian team lost both Gill and Shaw in quick succession to Mitchell. Gill was adjudged leg-before to a delivery from the Northern District cricketer.

The three-day match ended in ??a draw with Wriddhiman Saha and Ravichandran Ashwin holding fort, and India at 252 for the ??loss of four wickets.

After scoring just seven in the first innings, Rishabh Pant scored a quickfire 70 in the second innings as India’s three-day warm-up match against New Zealand ended in a draw.

It was a typical Pant knoc?k as he?? slammed four fours and as many sixes during his 65-ball stay on the crease.

Mayank Agarwal and Prithvi Shaw walked in to bat from where they had left on Saturday. As the duo looked on accel?erate, Daryl Mitchell sent Shaw back into?? the hut. Shaw scored a quickfire 39 off 31 balls.

At No. 3, Shubman Gill disappointed once again as he was trapped right in front by Mitchell for just 8. Pant came in next and soon took the attack to the host bowlers. He brought up India’s 150 by hitting Ish Sodhi for two consecutive sixes.

Mayank Agarwal (81 retired) and Rishabh Pant (70) had a field day as India’s three-day warm-up match against New Zealand XI ended in a draw at Seddon Park on Sunday.

If the Indian pacer?s came out with a remarkable performance on Day 2 of the practice game, the batsmen had a good hit on the third day.

While Mayank and Pant put on a 134-run partnership for the third wicket, Prithvi Shaw scored a quickfire 39 off 31 balls. Even Wriddhiman Saha didn’t do his reputation any harm as he hit an unbeaten 30 off 38 balls. But Shubman Gill couldn’t make much of the opportunity as he managed to score just eight runs.

The Indian openers came out from where they had left on Saturday and looked to put the foot on the accelerator, but Daryl Mitch?ell sent Shaw back after the Mumbaikar managed to add just four runs to his overnight score. An ??attempted drive saw him miss the line and the stumps were disturbed.

Gill disappointed as he was? trapped right in front of the wickets by Mitchell. With things suddenly not looking perfect, the Indian team management decided to give Pant a chance ahead of Saha, and the southpaw obliged as he took the attack to the Kiwi bowlers.

On Day 2 of the New Zealand XI vs India practice game, the Indian fast bowlers displayed top-notch skills with the ball. In particular, it was Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah, who bowled incredible spells to give a tough time to the Kiwi b??atters in the middle.

While Shami claimed three wickets, all of Bumrah, Umesh Yadav and Navdeep Saini picked up two apiece to pile New Zealand XI at 235 i?n their f??irst innings.

The pick of Shami’s brilliant spell was a delivery with which he got rid of all-rounder Jimmy Neesham.

As Neesham went for a full-fledged drive against Shami’s length delivery, the red cherry squeezed back in after pitching to take a small inside edge of Neesham’s bat before crashing on to the stumps. Neesham departed for just 1. It was a great display of swing and seam bowling by Indian pacer.

Indian openers – Mayank Agarwal and Prithvi Shaw – started on a positive note in the second innings. They played on the front foot and smashed the New Zealand XI bowlers at a strike rate of more than 100. Agarwal remained unbeaten for a 17-ball 23, and Shaw made 35 not out off 25 balls as India ended the day with 59/0 in 7 overs.

Jasprit Bumrah gave an exhibition of high-quality fast bowling on Day 2 of India’s warm-up match against New Zealand XI, send??ing a warning signal for the home team ahead of the first Test in Wellington.

In reply to India’s 263 in the first innings, New Zealand XI were bowled out for 235 in 74.2 overs, but Bumrah (2/18 in 11 overs) and Mohammed Shami (3/17 in 10 overs) used the conditions well and in the process added miles to their legs ahead of the two ICC World Test Championship games.

The pick of the delivery by Bumrah came against Finn Allen as the premier Indian pacer rattled the stumps with ??a peach of an inswinging delivery. It was a length ball from Bumrah, and the Kiwi batter left the delivery in anticipation that it will miss the stumps. However, the red cherry came in sharply to disturb the timber.

The youngster duo of Prithvi Shaw and Shubhman Gill are expected to have a hard competition to fill the position o??f an opener in red-ball? cricket for Team India against New Zealand in the upcoming Test series starting from Friday (Fri 21) at Basin Reserve in Hamilton.

Before the main event, both Prithvi and Shubhman got the opportunity to prove their worth in the 3-Day practice match against New Zealand XI started today. However, the pair failed to impress? as they were out for a duck.

Speedster Scott Kuggeleijn got the wickets of both Shaw and Gill at Seddon Park on the first day of the practice game. After facing four balls, Shaw was dismissed in the opening over of India’s innings, Gill, on the other hand, came to bat at No.4 and was sent back to the pavilion on the very first ball he faced. Before Gill’s wicket, pacer Kuggeleijn also got Mayank Agarwal (1 off 13 balls), and India were 5-3 after 6.2 overs.

A few runs later, all-rounder James Neesham got Ajinkya Rahane’s wicket, and India were 38-4. However, then Hanuma Vihari and Cheteshwar Pujara took India out of the trouble. The duo added a 195-run stand for the sixth wicket to get their side back in the game. Vihari scored a gritty hundred before retiring on 101, Pujara, on the other hand, missed out from the triple-figure score as he went out on 93.

The last five batsmen could only add 24 runs as the visitors got all out for 263 in 78.5 overs. Leg-spinner Ish Sodhi dismantled the lower order ??and earned three wickets for 72 runs in 14.5 overs. Batting all-rounder Jake Gibson also joined the party and took two wickets for 26 in his ten overs.
