Mumbai Indians (MI) thrashed Delhi Capitals (DC) by five wickets in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 final at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Tuesday. Not just Mumbaikars, but fans across the nation were seen celebrating MI’s victory from their homes amid the COVID-19 scare.

Trent Boult’s magnificent opening spell and captain Rohit Sharma’s brilliant half-century in his 200th ??outing in the IPL steered the Mumbai-based franchise to their fifth tit??le.

Joining the fans in celebrating MI’s triumph was Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh. The actor took to Instagram and performed a rap from his film ‘Gully Boy’ to wish MI on their record win.

As for the clash, MI chased down the 156 run-target in 18.4 overs. They won the back to back titles.

Mumbai Indians are the only team to win consecutive IPL trophies since Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in 2010 and 2011.

Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult were among the wickets after Suryakumar Yadav scored 51 off 38 balls and Ishan Kishan (55 off 30) along with Hardik Pandya (37 not out off 14) hit a flurry of sixes as Mumbai Indians (MI) registered a clinical 57??-run win over Delhi Capitals (DC) to reach the final o??f Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020.

Asked to bat first, MI posted 200/5 on the board. In reply, the Capitals were restricted for 143 for 8 as Bumrah (4/14) registered his best bowling figures in T20 cricket. Boult (2/9) picked a couple of wickets while Krunal Pandya (1/22) and Kieron Pollard (1/36) settled with a wicket apiece. But against the Shreyas Iyer-led side, leg-spinner Rahul Chahar had an indifferent day. In the two overs he bowled, Chahar was taken for as many as 35 overs and he wasn’t entrusted to complete his quota.

It goes without saying that Chahar’s confidence wouldn’t have skyrocketed. In the meantime, MI captain Rohit Sharma had a heartwarming gesture for Chahar.

After MI’s emphatic victory at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, the 33-year-old was seen asking Chahar to lead the team towards the dressing room. Not to forget, Chahar has been a key bowler for MI in IPL 2020 and it was one of those rare matches where he was taken to the cleaners. The 21-year-old has so far picked 15 wickets in as many matches for MI in the UAE.

Talking about the context of the match, despite Rohit Sharma (0) and Kieron Pollard (0) failing to contribute with the bat, MI posted a huge total of 200/5 on the board. After being invited to bat first, MI lost Rohit’s wicket in the 2nd over itself when the skipper was trapped in front of the wickets by Ravichandran Ashwin.

Quinton de Kock and Suryakumar Yadav then went on to add 78 runs for the second wicket. Later in the innings, Ishan Kishan and Hardik Pandya provided Mumbai with a late flourish in ?the death overs to help their team reach the 200-run mark.

Former Indian off-spinner Pragyan Ojha has revealed a fascinating anecdote which took place during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2009 season, where one of the Deccan Chargers’ (DC) franchise owners gifted him a watch as a reward for taking the wicket of Sachin Tendulkar.

The now-defunct Chargers were the IPL winners of the 2009 edition which was held in South Africa. The incident Ojha narrated about was during DC’s encounter with Sachin-led Mumbai Indians (MI) at Kingsmead in Durban.

Ojha also scalped the wickets of Shikhar Dhawan and JP Duminy along with the prized scalp of Tendulkar, finishing with figures of 3/21. He also walked away with the ‘Man of the Match’ award.

“This was in Durban, just before our game against MI. Our owner came to me, and the way I was bowling in South Africa, he had a word with me. He is from Hyderabad [the team Ojha represented in Ranji Trophy], [he is] one of the team owners in our local leagues in the Hyderabad Cricket Association system. He knows me right from my childhood. He walked up to me and said ‘Pragyan, if you get Sachin Tendulkar’s wicket, then definitely I’ll have a special gift for you,” Ojha said during his chat with Wisden.

Further, Ojha made sure that hi?s old-accomplic??e and admirer knew about his fetish for watches.

“He knew exactly that I used to love watches. I told him, ‘Sir, If I get his wicket, I need a watch’. It so happened, the next day, I got Sachin paaji’s wicket and he gifted me a watch,” the retired cricketer added.

Interestingly, after his stint with Deccan Chargers, Ojha made a move to? Rohit Sharma led MI Paltan.

“It’s a special wicket. Getting someone like Sachin paaji is a wonderful feeling, one of those wickets that you always dream of getting as a bowler. You feel nice, that you’re good enough to compete with people who have dominated world cricket,” Ojha concluded.
