In a thrilling encounter at The Gabba, Brisbane Heat outclassed Sydney Thunder by five wickets in Match 25 of the Big Bash League 2024-25. A scintillating knock by Max Bryant and a disciplined bowling performance ensured a crucial victory for the Heat as they success??fully chased down the target of 174 with seven balls to spare.

David Warner shines amid Sydney Thunder’s struggles

After winning the toss and electing to bowl, Brisbane Heat put up a commendable performance with the ball, restricting Sydney Thunder to 173/8 in their 20 overs. Spencer Johnson was the pick of the bowlers, claiming 3/39 in his four overs. Michael Neser and Matthew Kuhnemann supported him well, picking up two wickets each. Sydney Thunder’s innings was anchored by skipper David Warner, who smashed 50 off 36 balls with seven boundaries. Despite small contributions from Daniel Christian (23 off 15) and Tom Andrews (13 off 6), the Thunder fell short of posting a more chal?lenging total.

Max Bryant’s heroics seal the deal

In reply, Brisbane Heat got off to a shaky start, losing early wickets, including Colin Munro (23 off 25) and Nathan McSweeney (7 off 9). However, Matt Renshaw steadied the ship with a composed 48 off 33 balls, which included four boundaries and two sixes. The star of the evening, though, was Bryant, who played a match-winning innin??gs of 72 off just 35 balls. His knock, studded with seven fours and four sixes, turned the tide in Brisbane’s favor.

Sydney Thunder’s bowlers struggled to contain the Heat’s aggressive approach, with Wes Agar conceding a costly 61 runs in 3.5 overs. Lockie Ferguson stood out with figures of 2/21, but his efforts weren’t en??ough to derail Brisbane’s chase. Bryant’s sensational batting earned him the Player of the Match award, a fitting recognition for his heroics under pressure.

betvisa casinoMatt Renshaw – Cricket Times - betvisa casino //betvisa68.com/2024/01/australia-unveil-test-squad-for-the-west-indies-series-names-a-new-opener/ Wed, 10 Jan 2024 05:39:02 +0000 //betvisa68.com/?p=117345

Australia have unveiled their 13-man squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against the West Indies, starting on January 17 in Adelaide, as part of the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-2025 cycle.

Change in opening slot after David Warner’s retirement

The team, led by Pat Cummins, will witness a notable change in the opening slot, with Steve Smith set to take on the role following David Warner‘s retirement. Chief selector George Bailey confirmed Smith’s move to the top order and described it as a significant chapter in his career.

“Tongue in cheek I could say everything’s an experiment. That’s been part of the discussions with Steve, I believe he’s keen for this to be a significant chapter of his career. We don’t look too far ahead (but) for all intents and purposes, this is where Steve wants to stay,”  Bailey was quoted as saying by cricket.com.au

Strategic decision and selfless approach

Bailey emphasized that the decision wasn’t made hastily and acknowledged Smith’s selflessness in accepting a new challenge. The veteran batter, known for his success in the middle order, expressed a keen interest in exploring a different role. The move is viewed as part of an experiment to assess Smith’s performance as an opener before determining a long-term batting position.

“He may do. It’s not something he’s doing on a whim, or he wants to do for one match and see how he goes. It’s selfless that someone who has had so much success in one position or a couple of positions in the middle order is open and willing and hungry to have a crack at something new and something different,” the 41-year-old added.

Matt Renshaw’s inclusion

In another development, Matt Renshaw secured a spot in the squad, edging out other Test-capped openers Marcus Harris and Cameron Bancroft. However, Renshaw will have to wait on the sidelines initially, with all-rounder Cameron Green expected to return to Australia’s starting XI. Bailey further mentioned that Renshaw and speedster Scott Boland will participate in their respective Big Bash League (BBL) clubs before joining the Test squad.

“Cameron Green will come into the playing XI for the Test in Adelaide in a squad also containing Scott Boland and Matthew Renshaw. We have selected a team we believe contains the best six batters in the country. Scott Boland and Matt Renshaw will join the squad prior to the first Test after playing for the Melbourne Stars [on January 15] and Brisbane Heat [on January 13] in the BBL,” Bailey concluded.

Consistency in bowling attack

The bowling attack will remain unchanged from the recent series against Pakistan, featuring Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, Nathan Lyon and Mitchell Starc. The series against the West Indies marks ?a c??rucial phase for Australia in the ongoing WTC cycle

Australia’s Test squad for West Indies series:

Pat Cummins (c), Scott Boland, Alex Carey, Cameron Gr??een, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head (vc), Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan Lyon, Mitchell Marsh, Matthew Renshaw (only for 2nd Test), Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc

Brisbane Heat’s left-handed batter Matt Renshaw exchanged a few tense words with Sydney Thunder captain Chris Green after being dismi?ssed in t?he Eliminator of ongoing Big Bash League (BBL).

The incident took place in the?? 19th over of the first innings as Green bamboozled the menacing Renshaw, who was till then striking the ball at will??.

Th?e southpaw departed after scoring 24 runs off just eight balls and his inning was laced with three huge sixes and one four.

Green, the Thunder off-spinner, was elated to send back Renshaw and showed some emotion which didn’t go down well with the batter. Renshaw said a few words to Green while walking back. The Thunder skipper responded with a smile and started celebrating with his teammates.

Here’s the video:

As far as the result of the match is concerned, Heat def??eated Thunder by 8 ru?ns (DLS method) to reach the Knockout, where they will face Melbourne Renegades.

Batting first, Heat posted a mammoth total of 203/5 on the scoreboard in their allotted 20 overs. Thanks to their captain Usman Khawaja and his partner Marnus Labuschagne as the duo added 128 runs for the second wicket in quick? time. In the 29th match of the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL), a moment came which left players, umpires, commentators, and fans in confusion. All thanks to Matt Renshaw’s incredible effort at the boundary rope to dismiss Matthew Wade.

During the 15th over of Hobart Hurricanes innings, skipper Wade smashed a Ben Cutting’s delivery to deep mid-wicket, which almost cleared the ropes, but Brisbane Heat’s middle-order player Renshaw had some other plans.

Renshaw, who was positioned at ??long-on, ran and jumped to grab the catch; in the attempt, he crossed the ropes, but before that, he flicked the ball up in the air. Renshaw again bounced up and tapped the ball to another fielder around; Tom Banton, who eventually caught it.

The “Laws of Cricket” were updated in October 2013 to deem such a catch legal; therefore, the third umpire gave a decision in Heat’s favor, and Wade was given out. This stirred social media with a barrage of confusion over the decision.

The official Twitter handle of the Lord’s Cricket ended the confusion with the detailed analysis of the catch. It said that according to the law, the catch is legal.

“Amazing catch today in the @BBL. Under Law 19.5, the catch is deemed lawful. The key moment is when he first touches the ball, which is inside the boundary. He’s airborne for his second contact,” tweeted Lord’s cricket.

On Day 2 of the ongoing Test match between India and Australia, Indian captain Virat Kohli got involved in many on-field? conversations with the Australian batsmen as sledging finally made ?its mark in the series.

After the end of the day’s play, the Aussies opener Matt Renshaw re?vealed one of the conversations ??he had with Kohli.

The India skipper tried to unnerve Renshaw by reminding him of the “toilet break” he took in the Pune Test. But, the Queenslander just laughed and moved on to score patient 60 runs.

Here’s what Matt Renshaw said in the press conference on Day 2:

“I was just trying to enjoy it and laugh at what (Kohli) was saying because some of it was quite funny.”

“He was just reminding me to run off and go to the toilet again which happened in Pune, so it was quite funny.”

“There was a bit of talk but I think that’s because just (Smith and Kohli) are trying to unnerve each other and try and get under the skin.”

“It’s about embracing different conditions and challenges that we get.

“It was all good fun and a good contest out there.

“It was really loud out there when (Kohli) was doing that (pumping up the crowd) but it’s something I’m probably not used to.”
