]]>With the fifth season of The Hundred Women just months away, the women鈥檚 competition is already heating up following the Deadline Day for direct signings on February 25, 2025. The new rule allowing each team to secure one overseas player ah?ead of the official draft has given fans a preview of the star power set to grace the tournament, which kicks off on August 5, 2025. While some teams have swooped in to snag global superstars, others have doubled down on continuity, setting the stage for a fascinating squad-building phase as the draft looms on March 12, 2025.
Southern Brave wasted no time in making their move, securing South African batting sensation Laura Wolvaardt as their direct signing. Wolvaardt, known for her elegant stroke play and ability to anchor innings, joins a formidable batting lineup that already boasts retained stars Danni Wyatt-Hodge and Maia Bouchier. After reaching the final in 2024, only to fall short against Oval Invincibles, Brave are clearly aiming to go one better this year. Wolvaardt鈥檚 consistency鈥攕he was among the top run-scorers in the Women鈥檚 Big Bash League this season鈥攎akes her a perfect fit for a team looking? to dominate with the bat once again.
Over at Manchester Originals, the addition of New Zealand鈥檚 Amelia Kerr signals intent to build a squad capable of challenging the best. Kerr, a leg-spinning all-rounder with a knack for turning games with both bat and ball, joins a side featuring retained overseas ace Beth Mooney and England鈥檚 spin queen Sophie Ecclestone. Originals have struggled to find consistenc??y in past seasons, but ??Kerr鈥檚 versatility could be the missing piece. Her recent performances for New Zealand and in domestic leagues worldwide underline why she鈥檚 one of the most sought-after players in the game.
The defending champions, Oval Invincibles, have pulled off a coup by signing former Australian captain Meg Lanning as their direct overseas pick. Lanning, widely regarded as one of the greatest batters in women鈥檚 cricket history, brings a wealth of experience and a winning mentality to a team already brimming with talent. Retained stars like Marizanne Kapp and Alice Capsey will relish playing a??longside a player who has lifted multiple World Cup trophies. After their triumphant 2024 campaign, Invincibles are leaving no stone unturned in their bid to defend the title, and Lanning鈥檚 arrival only strengthens their aura of invincibility.
The direct signings have set the tone, but the real drama is still to come. With the draft scheduled for March 12, 2025, teams will finalize their squads, filling the remaining slots with a mix of overseas and?? domestic talent.

Despite losing their talisman, the Superchargers managed to secure a seven-wicket victory over the Manchester Originals thanks to impressive innings from Nicholas Pooran, Harry Brook聽and Adam Hose.
“Doesn’t look great unfortunately, will get a scan tomorrow and see how it is,” Brook said of Stokes’ injury in the post-match presentation.
Stokes was expected to feature in all four of the Northern Superchargers’ group stage matches in The Hundred, with the po??tential for further involvement in the knockout rou??nds.
Stokes faced just one ball in his first match, being dismissed by Tim Southee. He managed to score two runs in a rain-affected game in Cardiff but has now been ruled out of the final group match against London Spirit due to ?his injury.

]]>Kathryn Bryce has etched her name in the history books of The Hundred 2024 by becoming the third player ever to take a hat-trick in the women’s competition. Bryce, who also captains the Scotland women’s team, achieved this remarkable feat while playing for the Manchester Originals in their clash against the Northern Superchargers.
Her hat-trick, spread across two sets, saw her dismissing Annabel Sutherland, Alice Davidson-Richards聽and Kate Cross. On ball 80, Bryce bowled with reduced pace, leading to Sutherland’s mistimed shot, which was caught comfortably by Eve Jones at the boundary.
On ball 96, Davidson-Richards attempted a big hit but only managed to send the ball skyward, allowing Beth Mooney to take an easy catch. Bryce completed her hat-trick on the very next ball when Cross missed a wide delivery, and Mooney swiftly removed the bails to seal the milestone. With this achievement, Bryce joins Shabnim Ismail and Alana King as the only players to have taken a hat-trick in The Hundred women’s competition.
Bryce didn’t just stop at the hat-trick; she went on to take a five-wicket haul, with her other wickets bookending the hat-trick. Her exceptional bowling performance was the highlight of the second innings, but it was Beth Mooney who laid the foundation for the Originals with a stunning unbeaten 99. Mooney’s knock, which is now the highest score of the ongoing edition and the second-highest overall in the tournament, helped the Originals post a formidable total of 151/3. She hit 14 boundaries and three sixes in her 54-ball innings, ensuring the Originals set a challenging target for the Superchargers.
Chasing 152 was always going to be a tough ask for the Superchargers Women. Phoebe Litchfield, batting at number three, fought valiantly and scored 45 runs before being bowled in the 65th set. Sutherland (26) and Georgia Wareham (25) also contributed, but their efforts weren’t enough to chase down the target. In the end, the Superchargers Women fell short by 17 runs, as Bryce’s fifer and Mooney’s unbeaten 99 guided the Originals to a well-deserved victory.

]]>West Indies batter Nicholas Pooran delivered one of the most memorable moments of The Hundred Men’s 2024 on Sunday, August 10, by smashing a colossal 113-meter six. The match, held at Old Trafford, saw the Northern Superchargers take on the Manchester Originals in an intense encounter.
Pooran’s remarkable shot took place on the 74th ball of the Superchargers鈥?intense run chase. As Scott Currie delivered a full-length ball aimed at the leg stump, Pooran executed a masterful flick with perfect timing and extraordinary power. The ball rocketed off his bat, arching high into the night sky, and sailed well beyond the deep mid-wicket boundary. The sheer force of the hit sent the ball out of the stadium, clearing the railings effortlessly. This monumental six left the crowd in raptures and had the commentators marveling at Pooran’s incredible display of batting prowess.

Pooran’s spectacular performance didn鈥檛 stop at that one shot. He played a vital role in guiding the Superchargers to a seven-wicket victory over the Originals, remaining unbeaten on 66 off just 33 balls. His knock, which featured eight towering sixes and two boundaries, came at a blistering strike rate of 200. Pooran was well-supported by captain Harry Brook, who scored 43 runs off 26 deliveries, including two sixes and four boundaries, and Adam Hose, who contributed an unbeaten 27 off 14 balls, with two sixes and one boundar??y. The trio鈥檚 clinical batting display saw them chase down the target with ease, as they shared crucial fifty partnerships.
Earlier in the match, the Originals batted first and posted a total of 152/7 in their allotted 100 balls. Captain Phil Salt was the standout performer for the Originals, scoring a quickfire 61 off 28 balls, which included four sixes and five boundaries. However, the rest of the batting lineup struggled to build on Salt鈥檚 solid start. Jamie Overton, Thomas Aspinwall聽and Matthew Hurst provided some resistance with scores of 21*, 18* (12), and 17 (8) respectively, while Max Holden managed 13 off 11 balls. Despite ??their efforts, the Originals鈥?total proved insufficient against the Superchargers鈥?power-packed lineup.
Mitchell Santner was the pick of the bowlers for the Superchargers, finishing with figures of 3/24, while Patrick Brown, Adil Rashid and Matthew Potts each took one wicket. With this victory, the Supercharge??rs climbed to third place in the points table, securing four wins in seven matches. On the other hand, the Originals, with only one win in seven games, were eliminated from the race to the playoffs, marking a disappointing end to their campaign.
