Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) batter Ayush Badoni found himself embroiled in controversy during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 clash against Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Bharat Ratna Shri Ata?l Vihari Bajpyee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Tuesday (April 30).

Ayush Badoni’s dismissal drama

In the critical 19th over of the match, Badoni executed a cut shot towards the deep cover region off a short and wide delivery from Hardik Pandya. With swift footwork, the batters completed the first run and eyed the possibility of a second. A precise throw from substitute fielder Naman Dhir aimed at the striker’s end heightened the tension. Wicket-keeper Ishan Kishan, though initially fumbling, successfully dislodged the? bails. Badoni, in a desperate attempt, dived to cross the c??rease, but his bat momentarily lifted into the air.

Umpire’s final decision

Upon reviewing the replays, the third umpire ruled Badoni out, deeming his bat to be airborne when the LED stumps were lit up. The batter, visibly stunned by the umpire’s decision, left the field disheartened. However, the replays revealed a nuanced scenario: while the entirety of Badoni’s bat extended over the line, including a portion of the handle, neither his bat nor body made contact with the ground beyond the crease when Ishan Kishan even??tually dislodged the bails on the second attempt.

MCC Law: Understanding the rule

As per MCC Law 30.1.1, if neither the batter’s bat nor body is grounded beyond the crease when the bails are dislodged, they are deemed out, as was the case with Badoni.

“A batter shall be considered to be out of his/her ground unless some part of his/her person bat is grounded behind the popping crease of that end,” the law reads.

LSG triumph despite controversy

Fortunately for LSG, the contentious dismissal didn’t prove costly as they clinched the match by four wickets, with four balls to spare, chasing down the target of 145. The main architect of LSG’s victory was the experienced Australian all-rounder, Marcus Stoinis, whose brilliant innings of 62 runs off 45 balls, featuring seven boundaries and two maximums, turned the tide in their favor in the low-scoring encounter. With this triumph over MI, LSG rose to third place in the standings, accumulating?? 12 points from 10 matches, with six victories to their credit.

In the highly anticipated match between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Mohsin Khan and Marcus Stoinis were the standout performers.

Despite Mayank Yadav‘s return to the game after an injury, he seemed to struggle, bowling 3 overs and only managing to take 1 wicket. He was spotted chatting with Jasprit Bumrah after the match.

Heartwarming gesture of Jasprit Bumrah

Following the match, Mayank made his way back onto the field where he engaged in a conversation with Bumrah, accompanied by fellow LSG pacer Yash Thakur. Bumrah’s firsthand experience with injury setbacks is apparent, having encountered his own hurdles, including missing the IPL and significant tournaments like the 2022 T20 World Cup due to a severe back injury that sidelined him for over a year.

Bumrah was observed sharing bowling advice with Mayank. The newcomer was noted for attentively absorbing every insight from the seasoned Indian bowler. Even Yash, positioned next to Mayank, was seen eagerly embracing Bumrah’s valuable guidance.

LSG secures their sixth victory in IPL 2024

After being assigned to bat first, MI managed to put up a below-par total of 144/7 in their allotted 20 overs. Despite a rough start, Nehal Wadhera‘s resilient 46 off 41 balls and Tim David‘s explosive innings of 35 off 18 balls, boasting a blistering strike rate of 195 including 3 boundaries and a massive six, helped lift their score. Mohsin proved to be a key player for LSG, claiming 2 important wickets in his 4-over spell.

In response, LSG got off to a strong start, reaching 52/1 after the power play. However, MI made a comeback in the middle overs, though it wasn’t enough to secure a win. Stoinis played a commendable innings of 62 off 45 balls with a strike rate of 138. Hardik Pandya impressed with the ball for MI, bowling 4 overs and conceding only 26 runs while taking 2 wickets. Stoinis was rightfully awarded the?? Player of the Match for his outstanding performance.

The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) bowler Naveen ul Haq once again made it to the headlines during Eliminator of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 against Mumbai Indians (MI) on Wedn??esday (May 24). Naveen picked a brilliant four-fer for the Lucknow-based team in the clash, but it was his celebration that became a major talking point on the internet.

The four MI batters dismissed by Naveen included the likes of Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Cameron Green and Tilak Varma. However, more than the sensational performance of the right-arm pacer, what caught the attention of the world was his celebration after dismissing Rohit and Green. Naveen celebrated the wicket of the MI skipper and all-rounder by covering both his ears with his fingers. It is noteworthy that injured LSG skipper KL Rahul also celebrates his milestone in ?the same manner.

Although many seemed to like Naveen’s celebration, legendary Sunil Gavaskar expressed his displeasure with the act of LSG pacer and went on to school him??. Gavaskar said that he did not understand such kinds of celebrations and suggested Naveen not to close his ears but instead hear the applause ?from the crowd.

“He has had issues with the crowd. You should not celebrate by chucking your ears. This is the time he has got a wicket. He has got to listen to the applause. When somebody scores a hundred also, don’t chuck your ears. Listen to the applause, chuck your hand behind the ears and say ‘hello, now can I hear you?’. That’s how the celebration should be. That’s old me saying this, by the way,” said Gavaskar on Jio Cinema.

Notably, Naveen had been subject to consistent hate and teasing from the spectators after his heated altercation with Virat Kohli and ‘sweet mango’ dig at the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) star following the fight?. He is also often ridiculed by the chants ??of Kohli at different venues.

Speaking of the match, despite Naveen’s four-wicket haul, MI posted a competitive total of 182/8 in their allotted 20 overs, which LSG failed to chase down a?nd were bundled out for 101 in 16.3 overs. While MI sailed to the Qualifier of IPL 2023 with the win, LSG were eliminated from the tournament.

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) would like to forget the kind of outing they had against Mumbai Indians (MI) in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 Eliminator in Chennai on Wednesday (May 24).

Five-time IPL champions MI thrashed LSG  by 81 runs courtesy of a fifer from MI’s new pace sensation Akash Madhwal. The LSG never found the batting momentum while chasing a total of 183 and were wrapped up by?? the opposition bowlers for just 101 runs.

Mumbai dominated Lucknow in the entire game. However, star all-rounder Marcus Stoinis was seen playing a fighting knock for Lucknow during the chase and seemed to be in good shape. But his bizarre run out was the biggest turning point of the match. From there, Mumbai’s victory got confirmed in this knockout contest.

Stoinis played the anchor role in LSG’s run chase and scored 40 runs off 27 balls. He got run out after facing a collision with Hooda while running between the wickets. In the 12th over of the second innings, Stoinis played a ball toward the mid wicket region and called for two runs. While returning for the second run, the Australian all-rounder collided with Hooda and fell short of his crease.

Here’s the video:

Speaking about the playoffs, while LSG are knocked out of the tournament, MI will see defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) in Qualifier 2 at the Narendra Modi Stadium on May 26. The winner of Qualifier 2 will face MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the final on Sunday (May 28).

The young pacer’s performance was lauded by the legendary India spinner and former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper Anil Kumble.

“Great bowling in a high pressure game, Akash Madhwal. Welcome to the 5/5 club,” wrote Kumble.

“Akash Madhwal 5 wickets in the eliminator after the 4 he took in the last league game which was a do or die game. Such a delight to see newcomers doing well. This is the season where many of the experience guys have had a great season and many newcomers have made a big mark. Congratulations Mumbai on an empathic win. Will they be the first team?? to win the IPL after finishing 4th in the league stage??/em> twee??ted Sehwag.

Speaking of the match between MI and LSG, Mumbai posted a competitive total of 182/8 in their allotted 20 overs after winning the toss and deciding to bat first. Cameron Green top-scored for his team with quickfire 41 runs off 23 deliveries. Meanwhile, Naveen ul Haq scalped four wickets for the Lucknow-based side,

In reply, LSG failed to survive the lethal bowling of MI led by Madhwal and were bundled out for 101 in 16.3 overs. Although Marcus Stoinis scored a fiery 40 off 27 deliveri??es, he couldn’t get his team across the line, and LSG eventually lost the contest.

With the win MI have now sailed into the Qualifier 2 of the IPL 2023, where they will lock horns with defending Champions Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Nar?endra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday (May 26).
