]]>Australia and India are set to square off in the second Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25, commencing on December 6. After a decisive performance in the first Test, both teams are ready to battl?e under the unique conditions of a pin??k-ball, day-night encounter in Adelaide.
India will enter the second Test brimming with confidence after a dominant 295-run victory in the opening game at Perth. Set a daunting targe??t of 534 runs, Australia鈥檚 batting lineup faltered, folding for just ?238, handing India an emphatic win and an early advantage in the series.
Stand-in skipper Jasprit Bumrah was the standout performer, delivering a match-winning performance with the ball, including a sensational five-wicket haul that dismantled the Australian batting unit. For the second Test, India will welcome back Rohit Sharma as captain, with Shubman Gill also expected to return after recovering from injury. These inclusions add depth? and experience to an already formidable Indian side.
On the other hand, Australia will be eager to bounce back and level the series. With the World Test Championship (WTC) final qualification in sight, the stakes are incredibly high. Historically, Australia have excelled in pink-ball Tests with a hundred percent record at Adelaide Oval in the pink-ball format, and the team will lean on this experience to challenge India under the lights. The Australian camp faces a crucial change as Scott Boland is likely to replace the injured Josh Hazlewood.
Experts and fans are split on the likely outcome of the second Test. Former players like Aaron Finch聽and Michael Clarke have tipped Australia to win, citing their dominance in pink-ball conditions. Clarke believed Mitchell Starc will emerge as the stando??ut player, while Finch sees Boland as the game-changer.
Clarke, appearing on ESPN鈥檚 Around the Cricket alongside Neroli Meadows and Lisa Sthalekar, predicted that Starc renowned for his extraordinary pink-ball record of 66 wickets in 12 Tests – would be the key player for Australia.
“Australia to win so one or at the end of Adelaide, man of the match, Mitchell Starc,” Clarke said.
Finch, h??oweve?r, placed his bets on Boland, citing his ability to exploit Adelaide鈥檚 conditions effectively.
” We’ve got a Victorian back in the side so Scott Boland on return (Player of the Match), Australia win. By the end of the series we could have his (Boland) statue everywhere,” Finch said.
The Adelaide Oval holds special significance in pink-ball cricket, especially for India. Their last outing here, in December 2020, remains etched in memory for its dramatic outcome. India had a strong start, with Virat Kohli鈥檚 composed 74 leading the team to a first-innings total of 244. In response, Australia managed only 191, thanks to Tim Paine鈥檚 fighting 73 and Ravichandran Ashwin鈥檚 four-wicket haul.
Nevertheless, the match took a shocking turn on the third day. Resuming their second innings at 9/1, India鈥檚 batting lineup crumbled spectacularly, collapsing to a mere 36 all out – their lowest-ever Test score. Hazlewood and Pat Cummins combined for nine wickets, delivering a masterclass in pace b??owling. Australia chased the modest target of 90 with ease, registering an eight-wicket victory.

]]>As the highly anticipated ICC ODI World Cup 2023 in India draws near, cricket enthusiasts and experts are beginning to share their insights and favorites for the tournament. Among them, former Australia women cricketer Lisa Sthalekar, a two-time World Cup winner (2005 and 2013) and a r??espected co?mmentator, has unveiled the first five players she would choose for her Dream ODI XI. Her selections span across batting and bowling, reflecting her keen understanding of the modern-day game.
Sthalekar’s Dream ODI XI begins with Indian pace sensation Jasprit Bumrah. She highlighted Bumrah’s ability to make an impact in all three crucial phases of the game – the initial overs, middle overs, and death overs. Sthalekar praised his versatility and considered him a valuable asset in any ODI lineup.
“I have to go Jasprit Bumrah at No.1. An opening bowler is very important as you need to pick up wickets early, but then also be able to bowl at the death when the players are going hard. He is someone that can be used in the middle overs as well, so is a handy bowler across all the three different phases,” stated Sthalekar as quoted by ICC.
Sthalekar’s second choice is none other than Indian cricket’s poster boy, Virat Kohli. She emphasized Kohli’s exceptional performances on the grand stage and expressed hope for him to shine in front of his home crowd during this World Cup. Sthalekar sees it as an opportunity for Kohli to bid farewell to ODIs with a memorable victory for India.
“From a batting point of view, I am going to go with Virat Kohli at No.2. On the big stage in front of his home crowd, he is someone you would bank on getting runs and lifting [the trophy], as it will probably be his last World Cup. A chance for him to say farewell and to also do India proud,” added Sthalekar.
In the third spot, Sthalekar named Pakistan’s skipper Babar Azam. She predicted that Babar would be a standout performer, amassing runs during the World Cup. Sthalekar highlighted Babar’s ability to lead from the front and described him as the linchpin of Pakistan’s batting order.
“I think he (Babar) will score a lot of runs (at the World Cup). The conditions and the way the 50-over format is played will suit him. He is the type of guy that likes to lead from the front as well, and he is almost the glue to that Pakistan batting line-up,” said Sthalekar.
Sthalekar’s fourth pick is former Australia skipper Steve Smith. She commended Smith’s adaptability to various conditions and his proficiency against spin, which she considers vital in the Indian subcontinent. Sthalekar believes Smith’s presence in the middle overs can be instrumental in controlling the innings.
“He is someone who has adapted his style to all types of conditions. He is a good player of spin, which I think will be important in those middle overs, and he will be able to control the innings from there,” explained Sthalekar.
For the final slot in her dream ODI XI, Sthalekar chose Pakistan’s left-arm quick, Shaheen Afridi. S??he described Afridi as a menacing bowler capable of wreaking havoc?? with his pace and movement. She also noted his effectiveness in the death overs, honed through experience in T20 cricket.
“My last player will be left-arm quick from Pakistan, Shaheen Afridi. He is so damaging with the ball. What he can do with his pace and if he gets a bit of movement. Again, [he is] that type of bowler who can bowl at the death. T20 cricket has helped him, and he will have a huge impact at the 50-over World Cup,” concluded Sthalekar.

]]>Former Australian Women’s cricketer and currently the Federation of International Cricketers’ Association (FICA) President, Lisa Sthalekar, has raised concerns regarding the densely packed schedule in the men’s international cricket calendar.
Amid the growing dominance of franchise cricket, which occup??ies a substantial portion of the cricket calendar annually, Sthalekar highlighted the potential for reaching a critical threshold if a timely resolution is not sought.
The former Aussie cricketer mentioned that discussions have taken place among the International Cricket Council (ICC), cricket boards, and the FICA regarding the red-hot topic??.
“The game is changing at a rapid rate. These conversations have been happening for a while behind closed doors [between the ICC, the cricket boards and FICA]. We are getting to a point where things may break. I know that the ICC is speaking to the national boards. We are speaking to the ICC as well. We have to wait and see how that happens,” said Sthalekar
Sthalekar acknowledged the growth and advantages of T20 cricket but als?o urged the ICC and cricket boards to collaborate on finding a solution to the challenges posed by the congested schedule.
“We all see the benefit of T20 cricket. We understand players have a small window to maximise their earnings. A lot of our players are enjoying playing bilateral cricket, ICC events and the T20 leagues. We understand that the men’s calendar is getting quite big. We are urging the ICC and national boards to come together because it is not a solution that can be solved straight away. Certainly, the players would like to play a role in that, to see if there’s a way forward for everyone to have their cake and eat it as well,” she added.
Sthalekar further reckoned that Women’s Cricket need to take a lesson from men’s calendar and try not to expand too many T20 tournaments, which could turn things ugly in the future.
“Ideally we would like to see the women’s calendar fit in T20 leagues, bilaterals and ICC events so that players don’t have to choose one or the other. We can learn some lessons from the men’s calendar. We have to nip things in the bud before it gets too big,” Sthalekar observed.

]]>Opening batsman David Warner is no longer in Sunrisers Hyderabad’s scheme of things. They made a shocking call during the initial phase of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 by sacking and dropping their skipper. Warner was out-of-form and, therefor??e, benched after scoring just 193 runs in 6 ma??tches.
The southpaw was also expected to stay on the bench in the UAE leg but returned to the playing XI in Jonny Bairstow’s absence. However, his stay didn’t last long, and he was again dropped after managing two runs in as many matches.
After being dropped, Warner had revealed that? he might not play for SRH after IPL 2021. After staying in the team hotel during SRH’s clash against Rajasthan Royals (RR), Warner returned to the stadium during Orange Army’s last fixture and was spotted cheering for Kane Williamson & Co. with a flag in his hand.

While Warner’s form is certainly a reason behind his axing, former Australia all-rounder Lisa Sthalekar has criticized SRH for their ??behaviour towards Warner.
“It’s actually very heartbreaking when you think of the fact that David Warner has produced so much for that franchise. He has led them to so many finals, obviously, title victory in 2016. I don’t know what’s going on behind, but it has to be massive for them to be treating him like this.
She added: “It doesn’t sit well with me regardless of what he has done. I hate it, to be honest, I hate it.”
Warner has been synonymous with Sunrisers. He was the second-highest run-scorer for them in their title-winning effort with 848 runs at a strike rate of 151.42. The Aussie had a good IPL season in 2017 as well and returned strongly in 20??19, scoring 692 runs in 12 matches. As captain in the 2020 IPL edition, he took SRH to number 3 on the points table.

]]>Former Australia Women’s cricket team skipper Lisa Sthalekar has lambasted Bangladesh star cricketer Shakib Al Hasan for his shocking behaviour on the cricket field. The veteran Bangladesh p??layer was caught on camera kicking and uprooting the stumps while involving in a heated argument with an on-fie??ld umpire in Dhaka Premier Division Twenty20 Cricket League.
While captaining Mohammedan Sporting Club in a match against Abahani Limited, Shakib was first spotted talking roughly to the umpire after his lbw appeal against Mushfiqur Rahim was denied. The 34-year-old was then angered by the umpire’s decision to take the players off the field, and in frustration, he uprooted the stumps and then slammed them on the field.
Sthalekar took to social media and requested young cricket admirers not to follow the Shakib’s footsteps. She further questioned that the fascinating game needs players like Shakib or not.
“I hope young cricketers, especially in Bangladesh, don’t follow this terrible example! First a ban from all cricket (2 years, with one year suspended), now this poor behaviour. Do we really need players like this in our game? Love to know your thoughts,” Sthalekar tweeted.

— Lisa Sthalekar (@sthalekar93) June 11, 2021
Hours after his video went viral on social media, Shakib issued a statement and apologized for his on-field actions. He took to his official Facebook page and wrote: “Dear fans and followers, I am extremely sorry for losing my temper and ruining the match for everyone and especially those who are watching from home.”
“An experienced player like me should not have reacted that way but sometimes, against all odds, it happens, unfortunately. I apologize to the teams, management, tournament officials and organizing committee for this human error. Hopefully, I won’t be repeating this again in the future. Thanks and love you all,” Shakib added.
It wasn’t the first time that Shakib was involved in a controversy due to his rude actions. In 2015, Shakib was banned for one match concerning his poor on-field behaviour. And, in 2018, he was fined for shouting at an umpire during a T20I fixture against West Indies. Further, he was also banned for two years for failing to report bookies approach in 2019 by the International Cricket Council (ICC).

]]>Former Australian women’s cricketer Lisa Sthalekar has lambasted the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for ignoring Indian Women star Veda Krishnamurthy in the recently announced Test, ODI and T20I squad for the much-awaited England tour.
On Friday, the Indian cricket board released the squad details of the India Women cricket team concerning their upcoming international project in the English summer, starting June 16. The Indian team will play one Test, three ODIs and as ?many T20?Is.
Speaking about Veda’s absence from the outfit, Sthalekar said that the BCCI did not check on Veda after the twin calamities in her family. A few days ago, the talented middle-order batter lost her elder sister Vatsala Shivakumar to COVID-19, two week??s after her mother passed away from th?e deadly virus.
The ICC Hall of Famer said the associations should think about players rather t???han solely paying attention to the game.
“Whilst not selecting Veda for the upcoming series may be justified from their point of view, what angers me the most is that as a contracted player, she has not received any communication from BCCI, just even to check how she is coping. A true association should deeply care about the players that play the game… not focus solely on just the game at any cost. So disappointed,” Sthalekar wrote on her Twitter handle.
The Aussie reckoned the time has come in Indian women cricket to form a players’ association.
“As a past player, the ACA (Australian Cricketers” Association) have reached out daily to see how we are and provided all kinds of services. If there was a need for a player association in (India) surely it is now,” she added.
“The stress, anxiety, fear and grief that many players have experienced through this pandemic will take its toll on them as individuals and inadvertently affect the game,” concluded Sthalekar.
There is still time to fix this!! pic.twitter.com/LT3hApMioJ
