Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) off-spinner Sunil Narine has been reported for bowling with a suspected illegal action, the Indian Premier League (IPL) T20 confirmed in a media release on Saturday night.

Narine starred with the ball for KKR on Saturday as he defended 14 runs off the final over to help his team stun Kings XI Punjab by two runs in the 24th Match of IPL 2020 at Abu Dhabi.

The Caribbean picked up two wickets for 28 runs as KKR defended a par score of 164 against KL Rahul & Co. to register their fourth win in six matches and climb up to the third position on the points table.

“Sunil Narine, the Kolkata Knight Riders player, has been reported for bowling with a Suspected Illegal Bowling Action during his side’s Dream11 Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 match against Kings XI Punjab at Abu Dhabi.

“The report was made by the on-field umpires according to the IPL’s Suspected Illegal Bowling Action Policy. Mr Narine will be placed on the Warning List and is permitted to continue to bowl in the tournament.

“Another report will result in Mr. Narine being suspended from bowling in the Dream11 IPL 2020 until cleared by the BCCI Suspect Bowling Action Committee,” IPL’s release stated.

This is not the first time Narine’s bowling action has come under the scanner. He was reported for the same offence in 2015 and was banned to bowl in that season and even missed the ODI World Cup for the West Indies while working on his action.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) cleared his action in April 2016 but he had to pull out of the T20 World Cup in India that year. In March 2018, he was again reported during a game in the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) registered a thrilling two-run win over Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Saturday.

KXIP needed just 29 runs off the last four overs and with captain KL Rahul and Nicholas Pooran out in the middle it looked easy for the batting side to chase it down, but a disciplined bowling and some poor shot selection from the batsman led to their fifth consecutive loss in the ongoing IPL.

Prasidh Krishna, playing his first game of the season, took three for 29 from his quota of four overs as KKR stole victory from the jaws of defeat. With seven runs needed off the last delivery, Glenn Maxwell smashed the ball over covers but it landed just inside the boundary line and gave KKR a close victory.

“I have no answers. We just need to keep coming harder in the next seven games. We bowled really well. This was a fresh strip so we didn’t know what were good lines and lengths. And the bowlers adjusted really well. And they were brave at the death too,” Rahul said in the post-match presentation interview.

The KXIP skipper further said that losing wickets at the back end of the chase hurt his team.

“Don’t think we were satisfied at any stage in the chase. You are satisfied only when you win the game. Towards the end, we kept losing wickets, and couldn’t get us over the line,” he added.

Earlier, KKR skipper Dinesh Karthik won the toss and opted to bat first. The Knight Riders got off to a poor start losing the wickets of inform Rahul Tripathi and Nitish Rana inside the powerplay.

Eoin Morgan tried to steady the ship with Shubman Gill but was outfoxed by Ravi Bishnoi. Morgan scored 24 runs off 23 balls. Gill notched up a gritty half-century before he got run out on 57 in the 18th over.

Karthik, coming in to bat at 5, scored a quick-fire 58 and helped KKR post a competitive total of 164/6 in their stipulated 20 overs.

In reply, Mayank Agarwal and Rahul provided the best possible start for KXIP as the duo put on a 115-run stand for the opening wicket. After Agarwal was out caught on the boundary off Krishna for 56 (39), Pooran joined Rahul in the middle and they were cruising in the chase before a false shot from the West Indies batsman brought his downfall.

KXIP lost three more wickets in the last two overs as they fell short of the target by just two runs.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) registered a thrilling victory in the 24th match of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in Abu Dhabi on Saturday. KKR pulled off a miracle, defeating KXIP by 2 runs in a contest which went to the last over.

Chasing 165, KXIP started tremendously well after their opening pair of KL Rahul, and Mayank Agarwal put together 115-run for the first wicket. It was the fourth 100-run stand in IPL 2020 and second for Rahul and Mayank.

100+ opening stands this IPL:

  • 183 ?Mayank and Rahul vs RR
  • 181* ?Watson and Du Plessis vs KXIP
  • 160 ?Warner and Bairstow vs KXIP
  • 115 ?Mayank and Rahul vs KKR

During the 13th over of KXIP’s chase bowled by Pat Cummins, Rahul and Mayank reached their consecutive half-centuries. Mayank scored 56 off 39 balls before Prasidh Krishna sent him back to the dugout in the 15th over.

Rahul, on the other hand, held his end and kept on scoring runs. It appeared that KXIP will win the game easily, however, in the last few overs, KKR completely turned around the things and came back in the game.

In the 18th over, Sunil Narine cleaned up Nicholas Pooran (16) and conceded only two runs in the over.

Prasidh Krishna, who was playing his first match in IPL 2020, turned the tables when he came to bowl the penultimate over. He gave only 6 runs and bagged two wickets in the form of Simran Singh (4) and Rahul (74).

KXIP needed 14 from the last over with dangerous Glenn Maxwell at the crease. KKR Dinesh Karthik made a match-winning move by giving the white leather to Narine. The Caribbean superstar held his nerves and conceded only 11 runs, taking his team over the line.

Dinesh Karthik’s 22-ball fifty guided KKR to 164/6

Earlier, KKR posted 164/6 in their allotted 20 overs, thanks to skipper Karthik, who after a string of low scores rose to the occasion and played a sensational knock. The 35-year-old came to bat at number five in the 11th over and was expected to not only stabilize the innings but also score runs at a high pace.

Karthik lived up to the expectations and smashed KXIP bowlers all over the park to complete his half-century off just 22 balls. It was his joint-fastest fifty in IPL. Back in 2018, Karthik had scored half-ton from 22 balls against the same opposition.

Apart from the Tamil Nadu cricketer, youngster Shubman Gill also shined in the game as he smashed his second fifty in the ongoing thirteenth season. Gill scored 57 off 47 deliveries before meeting a run-out. Interestingly, Karthik also got dismissed through a run-out on 58 from 29 balls.

For KXIP, Mujeeb Ur Rahman was their most expensive bowler. He bowled 4 overs and conceded 44 runs at a terrible economy of 11. Arshdeep Singh and Ravi Bishnoi were the most successful bowlers for Punjab. The duo gave 25 runs in their respective 4 overs with one wicket each.

Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) will take on Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in their first afternoon game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Saturday.

For KXIP, this game would be practically a must-win game as a victory in this contest would help lift them from the bottom of the table and help build momentum to string a few results together.

At the top of the order, KXIP veteran Chris Gayle may be included in the playing XI given his record against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). The Punjab-based franchise is in full mood to drop out of form Glenn Maxwell and include Gayle in the line-up to add more firepower to their batting. In this case, either Mayank Agarwal or KL Rahul may bat at three lending solidity to middle-order.

Gayle was set to play against SRH, but he was ruled out at the last moment

The ‘Universe Boss’ was on Thursday about to feature in his first game of IPL 2020, but due to food poisoning, he was pulled out of the playing XI at the last moment.

“Chris Gayle was going to play today’s match but he is sick. He is down with food poisoning that’s why he isn’t in playing eleven,” KXIP head coach Anil Kumble told the commentators during the game against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).

Also, KXIP batting coach Wasim Jaffer had recently said they would like to play Gayle before it becomes too difficult for the side to keep their playoffs hopes alive.

The KL Rahul’s brigade has managed to win just one of their first five matches so far and will be eyeing to make a winning return in the T20 extravaganza with victory over KKR.

In the ongoing 12th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Friday continued their winning momentum by defeating Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) by seven wickets at the PCA stadium in Mohali and kept their playoff hopes alive. The win might make the KKR squad happy but all was not good during the first innings when KXIP were batting.

Skipper Karthik – who is known to keep his calm even during high-pressure situations – was seen lashing out at his teammates during the first strategic time-out in the KXIP innings.

Head coach Jacques Kallis was also present on the field when Karthik called his teammates into a huddle and expressed his displeasure about something. After the end of the match, Karthik revealed that he wasn’t happy with the bowlers and fielders and that is why he lost his cool in the middle.

Dinesh Karthik loses cool

“We live to fight another day. It’s been a hard few days. I wasn’t too happy with what the bowlers and the fielders were doing, so I thought I should let the boys know what I felt at that time. It is rare, not many people have seen me angry. If I feel I need to be angry to get the best out of the boys, then maybe. The last over went for 10 runs too many, but we have to give it to Sam Curran,” said Karthik in the post-match presentation.

“IPL is that kind of a tournament where someone comes in and scores run for you, so there’s that balance. It’s a big ground, but we did the small things well. Ran well, put pressure on the bowler, and good execution on the batsmen. It’s fair that we have given Gill a chance at the top of the order, and he has grabbed the opportunity with both hands,” the KKR captain added.

Batting first, KXIP scored 182-6 in 20 overs after a sensational 24-ball unbeaten 55 by all-rounder Sam Curran. However, opening the innings for KKR, Gill scored his second consecutive half-century as he helped the Kolkata outfit chase down the target with two overs to spare.

KKR will next compete with Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede stadium on Sunday as their bid to qualify for the playoffs continue.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) young sensation Shubman Gill produced Man of the Match performance in his side’s thumping 7-wicket win over Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) the PCA stadium in Mohali on Friday. The win ensured that the Knight Riders’ playoffs hopes remain alive while the defeat has knocked Punjab out of the ongoing IPL.

Chasing 184 to win, the 19-year-old Gill showed his range on his ‘home turf’ with an attractive 65 not out off 49 balls, anchoring the chase after Chris Lynn (46 off 22 balls) set the pace with some big hits in the Powerplay overs.

Not only did KKR reached the target in 18 overs but they also improved the net run-rate as they now have 12 points with a must-win away game against Mumbai Indians left.

Earlier, youngsters Sam Curran and Nicholas Pooran displayed belligerence as KXIP posted a respectable 183 for 6 on the scoreboard after being put into bat.

While West Indies’ Pooran smashed 48 off 27 balls to give the innings initial impetus as he added 69 runs for the third wicket with Mayank Agarwal (36 off 26 balls), England all-rounder Curran walloped KKR bowlers to smash an unbeaten 55 off 24 balls.

KL Rahul and Chris Gayle scored half-centuries at the Eden Gardens as Kings XI Punjab outclassed Kolkata Knight Riders by nine wickets in a rain-hit IPL encounter on Saturday.

While KKR scored a competitive 191 for 7 in 20 overs, KXIP had a revised target of 125 in 13 overs after rain halted play.

Gayle completed a hat-trick of half-centuries with an unbeaten 62 from 38 balls that had five fours and six sixes while Rahul helped himself to a 60 off only 27 balls.

Gayle hit the winning runs six off Tom Curran over long-on as they sealed the issue with 11 balls to spare. This was also KXIP’s first win in Kolkata since 2012.

Earlier, Chris Lynn scored a brilliant 74 off 41, while captain Dinesh Karthik smashed a 28-ball 41 as KKR posted a healthy total on the scoreboard.

Kings XI Punjab’s co-owner Preity Zinta is an ardent cricket lover and can be seen supporting her team during IPL matches.

On Tuesday, Preity was caught in a very jolly mood during Kings XI Punjab’s match against Kolkata Knight Riders in Mohali. In the 18th over of KKR’s innings, Chris Lynn hit a shot towards the mid-wicket region and ran for two runs. But, Akshar Patel, who is one of the best fielders in Punjab’s side, picked the ball and threw it in a flash to the wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha.

Saha quickly removed the bails before Lynn could make it to the crease. After the TV umpire judged Lynn run-out, one of the cameras captured the Bollywood beauty shaking a leg in celebration.
