With another win in limited-overs cricket, India now have a 2-0 lead over England in the 3-match series. But amongst widespread celebrations in the cricketing world over a series win for India and several positive for the Indian team, some are rather unhappy with the kind of decisions team management has been taking during the ODI series. A prominent voice amongst skeptics is that of former Indian batter and selector Krishnamachari Srikkanth, who has now decided to hold it back in the face of victory and speak his heart out against a controversial decision of the Indian team concerning KL Rahul.

Kris Srikkanth criticizes Gautam Gambhir for demoting KL Rahul in ODIs

After India’s win in Cuttack, the former Indian legend, who has been in the decision-making of the Indian team in the past, was not happy with the kind of playing combination and the batting order Indian has chosen to go for in the 2nd ODI. The former Indian selector seemed visibly unhappy with India’s head coach, Gautam Gambhir, and raised alarm bells of sorts over demoting Rahul at No. 6 in the battin??g order.

“I feel so bad for KL Rahul, Axar Patel is hitting well. What they are doing with Rahul isn’t fair; look at his record. He has a brilliant record at No.5, and not a lot of people can match that. I don’t know what the team management is doing with him, they are pushing him to No.6, where he’s scoring just six or seven,â€?Srikkanth said on his YouTube Channel.

Additionally, Srikkanth launched a full-scale attack against Gambhir, implying that it is after all hi??s decision-making that has led to the side??lining of talent like KL Rahul in the limited overs format.

“Gambhir, what you are doing isn’t fair. It is not at all right. It is very ??unfair. In a crucial contest in the Champions Trophy, there is a good chance that Ra?hul might not be in form. You don’t need a left-right combination in the top four, but you need it after that. It is very unfair. Why waste KL Rahul at No.6? Play Rishabh Pant instead. Because of this, they might even drop Rahul, absolutely unfair to Rahul,/em> Srikkanth further added.

Srikkanth defends Rahul’s batting position at No.5

Furthermore, the former Indian batter argued that a sudden shift in Rahul’s batting order can not only prove detrimental to his?? momentum rhythm and form but can also harm India’s prospects in the future.

“See, you have to play your best player at No.5, that’s all. It doesn’t matter if he’s a right-hander, left-hander, or middle-hander. I DON’T CARE! The whole thought process is flawed. It might work now but it might not work in ??the long run. India should just play their best batter at No.5 and not tinker too much with the winning combination./em> Srikkanth concluded.

Rahul has made a total of 30 appearances at No.5 for the country and amassed a total of 1259 runs, averaging 57.22, almost ten runs more than his career average, with a strike rate of 95.45 to his name. Recently, the Indian team has dropped him down to No.6 giving way for Axar Patel to bat at No.5.

With the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction set to take place in Jeddah on November 24 and 25, anticipation is reaching a fever pitch. Former Indian cricketer Krishnamachari Srikkanth added to the excitement by organizing a mock auction on his YouTube channel, which highlighted the immense demand for star players like Mohammed Shami and David Warner. The mock auct??ion gave a glimpse of the fierce competition expected during the real auction and underscored the strategic planning franchises are undertaking? to build balanced squads.

Mohammed Shami: The ace bowler returns to Gujarat Titans

One of the most intense moments of the mock auction revolved around Indian pacer Shami. After missing IPL 2024 due to injury, Shami made a stunning comeback in domestic cricket, taking seven wickets in his first Ranji Trophy 2024-25 match for Bengal. This remarkable performance, coupled with his past success in IPL, made him one of the most sought-after players in Srikkanth’s auction.

With a base price of INR 2 crore, Shami’s bidding started with Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) going head-to-head. The Royals pushed the price to INR 7.25 crore before exiting. This opened the door for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to enter a three-way bidding battle that saw the price soar to INR 10 crore. Just when it seemed Kolkata had secured Shami, Gujarat Titans (GT) exercised their Right?? to Match (RTM) card and reclaimed th??eir former star for 1 crore.

Shami’s value lies in his ability to swing the new ball and deliver under pressure. His IPL record includes 127 wickets in 110 matches, with best figures of 4/11. As the Purple Cap winner in IPL 2023, Shami took 28 wickets in 17 games, showcasing his consistency and match-winning abilities. Gujarat’s decision to bring him back highlights his pivotal role in their bowling unit.

David Warner: A leader’s appeal draws RCB’s attention

Australian opener Warner, one of the most successful players in IPL history, became a major highlight in the mock auction ahead of IPL 2025. Warner, known for his aggressive batting style and leadership qualities, has left a lasting impact on the tournament, including leading Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) to their first-ever IPL title in 2016. His contribution in that victory was immense, as he scored 848 runs at a phenomenal strike rate of 151.42, finishing as the second-highest run-scorer for SRH. Over the years, Warner has accumulated over 6,000 runs in the IPL, making him one of the most consistent and destructiv??e openers in the tournament.

Having captained SRH to success, Warner’s experience and aggressive approach make him a valuable asset to any team. After playing for Delhi Capitals (DC) in the last two-three seasons, Warner became a prime target in the mock auction, wi?th teams eager to add his leadership and batting ??firepower to their ranks.

The bidding for Warner began with Chennai making the first move, followed by Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). The battle between Chennai and Lucknow saw the price rise to INR 7.5 crore before Chennai exited. Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) then joined the ?race, engaging in a neck-and-neck competition with Lucknow that took the bid to INR 10 crore. Ultimately, RCB s??ecured Warner, adding a proven match-winner and experienced leader to their lineup.

Former Indian cricketer and World Cup winner Kris Srikkanth has criticized the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) selection committee for overlooking in-form batter Ruturaj Gaikwad for the upcoming limited-overs series against Sri Lanka.

The BCCI announced a new-look squad for the series, with Suryakumar Yadav taking over the captaincy for the three-match T20I series, starting July 27. Rohit Sharma will lead the ODI squad, which follows the T20Is. Young opener Shubman Gill has been named vice-captain for both formats.

Kris Srikkanth questions the selection criteria

Srikkanth, known for his outspoken views, expressed his disappointment on his YouTube channel, particularly regarding Gaikwad’s omission. “Ruturaj Gaikwad is an automatic choice for T20Is,” the ex-India opener stated.

“He should be scoring more runs, and the selectors should be looking at him. After all, not everyone has a good zodiac sign like Shubman Gill,” Srikanth added.

Ruturaj Gaikwad’s stellar form in T20Is

This statement highlights Srikkanth’s belief that Gaikwad’s recent performances haven’t received due consideration. Gaikwad displayed exceptional form in his last seven T20I innings, averaging an impressive 71.20 runs at a blistering strike rate of 158.70. Despite this, he finds himself on the outside looking in.

Gaikwad wasn’t the only one dropped from India’s quad. Fast bowler Mukesh Kumar, who emerged as the joint-highest wicket-taker in the recent Zimbabwe series with eight scalps in just three matches, also missed out on a spot. Similarly, Abhishek Sharma, who smashed a century in the second T20I against Zimbabwe, couldn’t retain his place in the squad.

Schedule for India tour of Sri Lanka 2024

The three T20Is will be played at the Pallekele International Stadium in Pallekele on July 27, 28 and 30, respectively. Both teams will then move to Colombo for the three ODIs, scheduled for August 2, 4, and 7 at the R, Premad?asa Stadium.

The 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup is the upcoming mega project in the cricketing wo??rld. The last three editions of the global showpiece event were won by host teams. So the pressure will be on the Men in Blue to continue the trend as?? India will be hosting the upcoming ODI world cup.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has also started the preparations as they recently named 20 probables for the muli-tea?m?? event. The apex board wants to rotate the players in the upcoming bilateral series to obtain a ‘core team’. Regarding the same, former India selector Krishnamachari Srikkanth named two big players who did not make a way in his India’s ODI World Cup squad list.

In a conversation with Star Sports, the 1983 World Cup winner spoke in detail about the probables list and reckoned that Shubman Gill and Shardul Thakur should be out of the squad. Notably, Shubman has done relatively well in whatever chances he’s given in the absence of Rohit Sharma, while Shardul? was not part of th??e recently concluded ODI series against Bangladesh.

“Two of the players won’t be in my list, Shubman Gill and Shardul Thakur,” said Srikkanth before adding that his lis???t would feature four pacers and bank on match-winners who can take the game away single-handedly.

“If you want my medium pacers, they would be (Jasprit) Bumrah, Umran Malik, Arshdeep Singh, and Mohammed Siraj. Four medium pacers are enough. (Mohammed) Shami would be so-so. I’m speaking as a chairman of selectors and not a fan, I would instead bring in (Deepak) Hooda. And I believe these are the guys that will win matches, what do you want? You want to win matches, you need horses like Yusuf Pathan, who will win you matches single-handedly,” Srikkanth added.
