MS Dhoni has given a lot of joy to Indian cricket lovers over the ye?ars. Thus, his continued absence from international cricket, since taking part in the 2019 World Cup semi-final against New Zealand in England, has been a worrying factor f?or many Dhoni fans.

MSD was all set to lead Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL 2020 and also stake claim for a place in the national squad ahead of the forthcoming T20 World Cup. But with the 13th season of IPL postpon??ed and the fate T20 World Cup in limbo due to the coronavirus pandemic,? cricket fans are worried whether they will see their beloved Mahi in the India jersey again.

There have been rumours about his retirement in the past as well, and the similar thread was ?started on social media on Wednesday evening again. However, those following the former Indian captain knew that these were false rumours.

Dhoni’s wife, Sakshi, took to Twitter to give the rumour-mongers a piece of her mind.

“Its only rumours! I understand Lockdown has made people mentally unstable! #DhoniRetires .. Get a life!” Sakshi wrote on Twitter. However, just a few minutes later, she deleted the tweet.

Now, Dhoni’s childhood coach Keshav Banerjee has also rubbished the rumours of the legendary cricketer’s retirement.

During an interview with a news daily, Banerjee said that one should not go by social media as many things become ‘trends’, but end up as fake news. Banerjee then mentioned that he has no clue why people are after Dhoni because the latter is someone who will let everyone know when the time will come for him to take a call on his career. He then added that the veteran stumper is not the kind of person who will call up people and tell them that he is retiring because he knows how to do it.

Furthermore, Banerjee also added that when the two-times World Cup-winning skipper feels that the time has come, he will inform the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), call a proper press conference and do all the t??hings that need to be done just like he had done by announcing his surprise retirement from Test cricket in December?? 2014.

Talking about the Ranchi-born cricketer’s comeback chances to the national team, Banerjee said that one will get to see in the IPL how fit Dhoni still is and he can play the T20 World Cup even if it is postponed or played next year.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Dhoni has been on a sabbatical since India’s World Cup exit and is unlikely to feature in the upcoming three-match T20I series against Bangladesh. While Dhoni has not announced his international retirement, the selectors have time and again made it clear that they intend to move forward, keeping next year’s World T20 in mind.

However, Dhoni’s childhood coach Keshav Banerjee believes the former India captain will return to play, but as of now, he needs rest.

“Dhoni has been playing relentlessly since 2004. So he deserves this sabbatical. Let him spend some time with his family,” Banerjee was quoted as saying by Times of India. He also said that Dhoni might have plans to play the next year’s T20 World Cup in Australia and then deliver a parting shot. “I think he will play the World T20 next year, then take a call,” Banerjee added.

Dhoni’s coach wants new players to be given opportunities

He also advised the Indian team management to give the deserving candidates a chance rather than settle for Dhoni’s return.

“More important than Dhoni’s return is providing the young ones who have impressed in domestic cricket a chance to play for India,” said Banerjee. “We should not waste their peak by making them play only domestic matches. Bangladesh series is the ideal opportunity to test them,” Banerjee further added.

Dhoni’s take on his retirement talks

MSD had broken his silence just before India’s last group stage game against Sri Lanka in the 2019 World Cup.

Dhoni said, “I don’t know when I will retire. But a lot of people want me to retire before tomorrow’s game,” according to ABP News.

After stepping down from captaincy in January, India’s star cricketer MS Dhoni is enjoying his game to the fullest in ODI’s and T20I’s.

Meanwhile, his childhood coach, Keshav Banerjee, feels that the upcoming Champions Trophy would decide the fate of India’s most successful skipper.

“At the moment, his sole focus is on the Champions Trophy. If he’s successful there, I think he would go on till the World Cup 2019,” Banerjee said during the launch of an U-14 cricket tournament.

Though there has been a dr??op in success ratio of Dhoni in finishing the games but Banerjee feels that Mahi still has a sharp brain.

“It’s natural that with age, you would not hit the same strike rate. But his will power and game-analysing sense are the two qualities that make him special. He’s out there playing domestic one-dayers (Vijay Hazare Trophy) to keep himself in shape ahead of the Champions Trophy.”

On MSD stepping down from limited overs captaincy, Banerjee said, “He never liked to be pushed so he called it quits before anyone could point fingers at him in the Tests format.” “He never kept anyone in the loop, even his best friend or parents did not know when he quit Tests.”

The coach seemed to be unhappy with the way Mahi was removed as skipper of IPL team Rising Pune Supergiants for the upcoming season. “It appeared to me a decision by the team owners as Dhoni did not have any choice now but to play this season (with Chennai Super Kings being suspended),” he added.
