After a delay due to excessive rain, the fixture, reduced to eight overs-a-side, commenced with Ireland captain Laura Delany winning the toss and choosing to bowl first. Wickets fell at regular intervals, including a run-out by Cara Murray, and Zimbabwe posted a total of 65/5 from their eight overs. Kelis Ndhlovu top scored for Zimbabwe with 17 while Chiedza Dhururu made 14.

Nail-biting run-chase ends with Orla Prendergast’s six

Chasing 66 for victory, Ireland faced a challenging run-chase against Zimbabwe’s resilient bowling attack. Although Amy Hunter provided a positive start, her dismissal on 19 ?heightened the pressure. Ndhlovu was entrusted with defending nine runs in the final over. Gaby and Prendergast showcased composure in managing the chase, with Prendergast sealing the win with?? a six over midwicket on the penultimate delivery. The series will conclude with the final match on Friday, 2 February, at the Harare Sports Club and will be played under lights.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the ICC Women’s Player of the Month winner for April 2023. Earlier this month, the apex international body had revealed three nominees for the award featuring two Associate batters and a Zimbabwe bowling all-rounder.

Thailand’s star veteran batter Naruemol Chaiwai, Kavisha Egodage from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Zimbabwean Kelis Ndhlovu. Both Chaiwai and Ndhlovu played against each other in the recent ODI series betw??een Thailand and Zimbabwe, where Chaiwai powered Thailand to a 3-0 series win. Similarly, Egodage exhibited?? her batting skills in the Vi?ctoria and Capricorn Series.

Chaiwai has been adjudged the ICC Women’s Player of the Month for April 2023 for her splendid shows against Zimbabwe. She smashed two unbeaten half-centuries in the 3-0 series win. She scored 57 not out in the opening game and an undefeated 52 in the third ODI.

Notably, Chaiwai was named Player of the Series for her efforts, also contributing 55 runs in the three T20Is. Her 29? in the second T20I helped the side to a five-wicket ?win.

“I am deeply humbled and proud of myself to display performances worthy of the accolade.The recent series was an important series for the team and myself to cement our progression in the ODI arena.
