Guyana Amazon Warriors showcased an outstanding all-round performance to secure a commanding six-wicket win over St Lucia Kings in Match 10 of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024. The match, held at the Daren?? Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet, St Lucia, sa?w the Warriors completely outplay the Kings in both batting and bowling.

St Lucia Kings falter with the bat

The Kings, after being put into bat, struggled to get going and were bundled out for a meager 100 runs in just 14.3 overs. Matthew Forde was the lone bright spot, scoring 31 runs off 21 balls with two sixes and three boundaries. However, the rest of the batting order failed to provide any resistance, crumbling under the pressure of Warriors’ disciplined bowling attack.

Imran Tahir and Gudakesh Motie were the chief destroyers for Guyana, each claiming three wickets. Their crafty spin bowling kept the St Lucia batters in check, and with Keemo Paul chipping in with two vital wickets, the? Kings found themselves unable to build any meaningful partnerships, ultimately folding for a paltry total.

Azam Khan’s spectacular catch dismisses Johnson Charles

One of the pivotal moments of the match was Pakistan’s Azam Khan taking a sensational catch to dismiss the dangerous Johnson Charles. The incident occurred during the sixth over of the St Lucia innings. Paul, who had been bowling with precision, delivered a full-length ball outside off stump. Charles, attempting to drive through the off side, ended up playing away from his body, producing a faint edge. Azam, stationed behind the stumps, displayed exceptional agility and reflexes, diving sharply to his right to complete a stunning catch. This catch not only removed a key player but also set the tone for the rest of the innings, as Warriors’ batting line-up quickly unraveled.

Here’s the video:

Guyana Amazon Warrior’s powerful response with the bat

Chasing a modest target, the Warriors made quick work of the Kings’ bowling attack. Rahmanullah Gurbaz led the charge with a blistering knock of 47 runs off just 19 balls, hammering seven sixes in a show of raw power. Tim Robinson also contributed with a solid 33 off 20 balls, ensuring that Guyana reached the target w??ith 10 overs to spare.

Despite the overall disappointing performance, Noor Ahmad was a standout for St Lucia Kings, delivering an impressive spell of bowling. He picked up 3 wickets for just 22 runs, putting in a lone effort to try and stem the flow of runs. Alzarri Joseph also managed to take a wicket, but their efforts were not enough to?? stop Guyana’s relentless march to victory.

MS Dhoni is widely recognized as one of the greatest players in the history of cricket. While he is acclaimed for his leadership and batting prowess, his skills as a wicketkeeper are often underrated. Dhoni’s abilities behind the stumps have been exceptional and played a significant role in his success.

The Indian stalwart agility and reflexes have allowed him to take spectacular catches that have amazed spectators. Whether it’s diving to his left or right or taking catches standing up to the stumps, the World Cup winning skipper has showcased remarkable anticipation and quick reactions.

One area where Dhoni truly excels is in effecting stumpings. The Ranchi-born awareness and inventiveness have often led to dismissals through clever stumping techniques. The forme??r Indian cricketer is known for his quick thinking and accurate glovework, enabling him to dislodge the bails in the blink of an ?eye. His ability to react swiftly to any deflection or movement has resulted in numerous stumpings throughout his career.

Known as the fastest man behind the stumps, the 42-year-old has produced some masterpieces with his canny mind and quickness. The five-time Indian Premier League (IPL) champion who lifted his latest trophy in the recent finals for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) vowed to stay one more year if his body permits.

With such an incredible career that has spanned over decades, the former Indian Captain has pulled off some outstanding pieces that have left fans awestruck by his brilliance. Therefore, let’s have look at the five brilliant pieces of stumpings by Dhoni that have been etched in the memory of fans.

1. MS Dhoni against Keemo Paul in 2018 – 0.08 seconds

Dhoni’s fastest stumping ever came against West Indies in 2018. In the fourth ODI of the series between India and the Windies, the team from the Caribbean already had their backs against the wall in a 377-run chase. And then in the penultimate ball of the 28th over, Dhoni was at his brilliant best by stumping Keemo Paul in just 0.08 seconds. Paul lunged forward while facing a delivery from Ravindra Jadeja only for the ball to turn away from him as Dhoni remo??ved the bails in the blink of an eye to effect the fastest-recorded stumping in cricket history.

2 . MS Dhoni against Mitchell Marsh in 2012 – 0.09 seconds

Australia were batting first and struggling to post a fighting total in the second game of the T20I series at Sydney during India’s tour of Australia 2012. Mitchell Marsh tried to work the ball into the gaps but missed it completely as the white leather turned away from him. Dhoni got hold off the ball and did the rest of job with ease; Marsh failed to make his g?round. India eventually won the match by eight wickets.

3. MS Dhoni against Shubman Gill in 2023 – 0.1 seconds

It was the final of the 2023 IPL where CSK were fighting against Gujarat Titans (GT) in quest to win their fifth title. GT batted first and their openers Shubman Gill and Wriddhiman Saha were going well. Then, came a moment in the seventh over when Ravindra Jadeja was called int??o the attack. On his sixth delivery, Gill got deceived and Dhoni behind the stumps merely took 0.1 seconds to collect the ball which he did and knocked the stumps to send the batter back to the pavilion.

This was a huge breakthrough for CSK as Gill was the leading run-scorer in the tournament and his wicket was way more crucial. In the end, GT posted 214 on the board and CSK were tasked to chase down 171 in 15 overs due to rain which the?y did on the final delivery; hence, won their fifth IPL title.

4. MS Dhoni against Tillakaratne Dilshan in 2016- 0.1 seconds

Ravichandran Ashwin was bowling the first over against Sri Lanka. India had already lost the first T20I of the three-match series. India needed to get rid of Tillakaratne Dilshan as soon as they can to put pressure on the Islanders. Ashwin bowled the first ball wide to Danushka Gunathilaka. Sri Lankan openers sneaked a single off the wide ball. Ashwin came round the wicket and bowled a straight??er one to Dilshan. The right-hander failed to get the bat on the ball and fumbled a bit in his attempt to work the ball into the gap. Dhoni removed the bails in a flash and got rid of the danger man on the first legal delivery of the innings.

5. MS Dhoni against George Bailey in 2016 – 0.19 seconds

Australia were chasing a target of 297 in the third ODI of India’s tour of Australia 2016. The hosts had already won first two games of the series.

They were 2 for 150 in 26 overs with George Bailey and Shaun Marsh trying to form a partnership between them. In the 27th over of the match, Jadeja bowled the first delivery outside off stump beating Bailey. Dhoni made no mistake and took off the bails leaving Bailey perplexed. The square-leg umpire went upstairs and the third umpire after looking at various angles made his decision. The replays showed Dhoni’s sheer agility behind the stumps.

St Kitts and Nevis Patriots (SKP) won the 2021 Caribbean Premier League (CPL) title by defeating Saint Lucia Kings (SLK) in the ??summit clash at Warner Park in B?asseterre on Wednesday.

Batting first, the Andre Fletcher-led side posted a competitive 159/7 on the board in their stipulated 20 overs. Chasing 160 for victory, St Kitts lost the wicket of swashbuckling opener Chris Gayle for a four-ball duck in the very first over.

Evin Lewis too departed early, but young Joshua da Silva steadied the ship with all-rounder Sherfane Rutherford, adding 45 runs for the third wicket stand. After their dismissal in successive overs, Dominic Drakes stepped up for the Patriots.

Drakes’ single-handedly took his side for the finish line by smashing a quickfire 48 off 24 balls. With the win, Patriots also clinched their maiden CPL trophy.

Naseem Shah lost his cool on Keemo Paul

SKP pacer Naseem Shah gave the Kings all-rounder Keemo Paul a fiery send-off after dismissing him for a brisk 21-ball 39. It all happened on the penultimate ball of the first innings. The 18-year-old Shah bowled a slower delivery on the middle stump, and the right-handed batsman tr?ied to? send the ball out of the park.

But Paul couldn’t time the ball well and was caught comfortably by substitute fielder Jonathan Carter. While the batsman started walking back to the dugout, Shah stared at him with a lot of aggression and pointed a finger towards the pavilion. Even Paul looked back at the youngster, and both the players exchanged a few words.

Over the years, the Delhi Capitals (f??ormerly: Delhi Daredevils) carried the reputation of bringing in strong sides on paper, but could not match their potential with performances.

Interestingly, before the auctions in December last year, DC let go of their retained all-rounde??r Chris Morris, along with Trent Boult, Colin Munro, and Colin Ingram.

Amongst the new faces in the squad, the franchise owners went for experienced Test stars such as Ishant Sharma, Ravichandran Ashwin,?? and Ajinkya Rahane.

Let us look at the strongest playing ?XI for the Delhi Capitals this season:

Shikhar Dhawan

Shikhar Dhawan

Comin??g back from a freak injury to the knee, Shikhar Dhawan got injured while fielding in one of ?the ODIs against Australia.

Dhawan? suffered a long layoff from the national side and came back to f?itness with his outings in the DY Patil tournament.

Eyeing his pl?a??ce in the T20 World Cup squad, Dhawan will look to make a strong statement, in this edition of IPL.

Jason Roy

Jason Roy

With Jason Ro??y available, the Capitals?think tank featuring Ricky Ponting will look to play him for the fireworks he can provide with the new ball. Featuring for Quetta Gladiators in PSL 2020. Roy has pick??ed off decent form, with few impressive performances.

Prithvi Shaw

Prithvi Shaw

With both Dhawan and Roy in the side, Prithvi Shaw can only bat one-wicket down. Shaw’s comeback into the national side ??has been patched up in New Zealand.

Therefore, there’s much ?at stake for the explosive Mumbai batsman, who comes in with a huge reputation behind him.

Shreyas Iyer

Shreyas Iyer

After Gautam Gambhir abruptly stepped ??down from captaincy in the middle of 2018, Shreyas Iyer has done well to keep his franchise?? going under his captaincy.

The c??rafty right-handed batsman has recently tasted i??nternational success at the much-debated number four slot in the Indian team.

Rishabh Pant

Rishabh Pant

Another batsman from the Indian team who will?? look to revive his career through the?? upcoming edition of IPL, using the big stage, is Rishabh Pant.

Last few months, Pant has c??opped a substantial amount of criticism for squandering opportunities with his attacking mindset.

However, his record for the Capitals has been impec?cable, with over 684 runs in the 2018 edition, following up with a tally of 488 runs in the subsequent edition.

Marcus Stoinis

Marcus Stoinis
Marcus Stoinis. (Image Source: Twitter)

The recent edition of Big Bash League belonged to only one man, Marcus S?tonis. In BBL, Stoinis scored 533 runs and had 14 scalps to his name.

In the auction, Capitals had?? no hesitation in acquiring the services of the Melbourne Stars?all-rounder. Stoinis?? provides a three-dimensional balance to the side, with his lusty blows, gun fielding, and handy death overs.

Keemo Paul

Keemo Paul

Another important player who will add the much-needed balance in the Delh??i li??neup is West Indies all-rounder Keemo Paul.

In the absence of injure??d Chris Woakes, Paul could ?offer a couple of overs at the death with his change of pace and slower deliveries.

When the time comes, Ponting and Co. will surely look forward to Paul’s cont?ribution with the bat down the order.

Kagiso Rabada

Kagiso Rabada

During the early stages of the tournament, in the absence of Kagiso Rabada due to injury, Nepal sensation Sandeep Lamichanne sho??uld make it into the XI.

However, once Rab?ada comes back into fitness, their ace bowler will surely feature with the ball for the Capitals.

R Ashwin

After being app??ointed as the Kings XI Punjab captain, Ravichandran Ashwin was released from the squad ahead of the auction.

This is Ashwin’s fourth team i??n his IPL career, and now the Tamil Nadu offie will be looking to boost?? his skills in white-ball cricket.

Amit Mishra

Amit Mishra

One of the most ??successful bowlers for the Delhi-based franchise, as well as in the history of IPL, Amit Mishra has 157 dismissals to his name.

His form of late has been excellent, featuring for Railways in First-Class cricket. Together with Ashwin, and Lamichhane later on the dry, spinning wickets later in the season, Capitals w??ill be a force to reckon with the ball.

Ishant Sharma

Ishant Sharma

Another Indian i??nternational who will be looking to revive his white-ball career is Ishant Sharm. He now has the opportunity to silence ??his critics in the IPL.

With his supreme Test bowling spells, Sharma went on t?o state that he is good enough at the? international level.

It is only a matter of time when we see him ??translating his red-ball prowesses in the limited-overs format.

Delhi Capitals’ Best XI for IPL 2020:

Shikhar Dhawan, Jason Roy, Shreyas Iyer,? Prithvi Shaw, Ris?habh Pant, Marcus Stoinis, Keemo Paul, Kagiso Rabada, R Ashwin, Amit Mishra, Ishant Sharma.

The West Indies announced their 15-member One-Day International (ODI) squad for the upcoming thre?e-match series against Sri Lanka on Monday. The board left out power-hitter Shimron Hetmyer and opener Evin Lewis on fitness grounds.

Left-handed-batsman Darren Bravo has been recalled into ??the squad along with Rovman Powell and Fabian Al?len.

“Evin Lewis and Shimron Hetmyer missed out due to the fact that they came up short in the fitness test. They will be missed; Lewis was the team’s best batsman in the recent Colonial Medical Insurance ODI Series against Ireland where he batted with great composure and proved the bedrock for the team’s series win. Hetmyer appeared to be getting his act together and was an integral part of the team’s batting group,” Roger Harper, CWI’s Lead Selector, said as quoted by Cricbuzz.

Harper said that they are looking forward to the Sri Lanka series as their side seems quite promising. They had a good time in?? India and grabbed lots of learning experiences from there, which will ??eventually help the team.

“Sri Lanka are a very good team in their own conditions. I do not expect it to be easy but our team has shown that it is very capable. These are the series we will have to win in order to move up the rankings,” added Harper.

Abou??t the inclusion of Bravo and Powell, Harper said that their recent performances in the domestic tournaments is the reason the duo has been picked for Sri Lanka ??ODIs.

“Darren Bravo and Rovman Powell owe their recall to their outstanding performance in the recent Colonial Medical Super50 tournament. Bravo brings good form, a renewed appetite for runs, and lots of experience, which will benefit the team tremendously. Powell, who is back from injury, will add batting firepower to the lineup, increase the team’s bowling options and strengthen the fielding unit,” Harper added further.

The opening game of the three-match series will begin from February 22 at Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo. The second contest will take place on February 26 in Hambantota, followe?d by the final?? match on March 01 in Pallekele.

West Indies squad for the Sri Lanka ODI series:

Veteran ope??ner Chris Gayle has been named in a strong 14-member West Indie??s squad for the three-match One-Day International (ODI) series against India, the WICB announced on Friday (July 26).

Ahead of the England s?eries ??in March, Gayle had said that he would retire after the ODI World Cup but surprisingly changed his mind during the tournament and has made himself available for the India series.

The sou??thpaw will miss the preceding T20I series as he will be busy playing in the Global ?T20 Canada league.

“Chris is a very valuable player and he brings a lot of experience, a lot of knowledge, he lends a lot to any dressing room and it is great to have him in the squad,” interim West Indies head coach Floyd Reif??er said.

West Indies have also recalled Keemo Paul, Roston Chase and John Campbell as the three changes from thei?r World Cup squad. S?unil Ambris, Darren Bravo, Shannon Gabriel and Ashley Nurse have been dropped while Jason Holder will continue to lead the side.

“We have a mixture of some experienced and young ODI players,” said Reifer. “It is good to have Keemo, John and Roston back, and they will help to bring further balance to the team. Looking ahead to the series, I think we have a lot to build upon following the World Cup.

“We have retained a large number of players from the World Cup squad, so there is a lot to build on and I am looking forward to the series.”

West Indies had a poor outing at the World Cup finis??hing ninth on the points table with just two wins out of eight completed matches. They had a few individual flashes of brilliance all the way through the tournament but fell short when it came to firing as a unit.

Reifer said that West Indies’ preparation for the 2023 World Cup will begin right away with the India series.

“We have to start planning now for the World Cup in 2023 and we are looking for a solid squad that we can work with over the next four years. We want to build them into a consistent winning team in this format so that they have a real chance of success in 4-years’ time,” Reifer said.

“We had a number of young players in the last World Cup squad. We played some decent cricket. We were in match-winning positions, but we just didn’t win the key moments or finish off the games. The players have learnt a lot from the World Cup, and we are looking to improve their skills, their mindsets and playing together as a team. The more they can play together, the better it will be for them.”

The three-match ODI series will get underway on August 8 at the Guyana National Stadium before the two teams head to the Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad for the remaining two fixtures on August 11 and 14.

West Indies squad:

Jason Holder (c), John Campbell, Evin Lewis, Shimron Hetmyer, Nicholas Pooran, Roston Chase, Fabian Allen, Carlos Brathwaite, Keemo Paul, Chris Gayle, Sheldon Cottrell, Oshane Thomas, Shai Hope?, Kemar Roach.
