The Zim Afro T10 2024 tournament is set to kick off on September 21 at the Harare Sports Club in Zimbabwe. The second edition of this exciting T10 league will feature six teams competing for the title over the course of nine days.

The eagerly anticipated third season of the Global T20 (GT20) Canada tournament is all set to commence on Thursday (July 20), with six teams vying for supremacy. The CAA Centre will serve as the exclusive venue for all 25 matches of the tournament.

In the league stage, each team will play seven matches, leading up to the playoffs scheduled to begin on August 4. The top four teams in the points table will advance to the playoffs, culminating in the grand finale on August 6.

Adding to the excitement, the esteemed British-Indian model, actress and TV presenter Karishma Kotak has been announced as the host of the tournament. Legendary West Indies cricketer Curtly Ambrose has revealed his Retro T20 XI during a chat session with celebrity anchor Karishma Kotak. In the Curtly and Karishma show on YouTube, Ambrose talked about his good old classic days and listed out his favourite players of the present era.

The veteran Caribbean fast bowler picked Test cricket as his favourite format, saying players get legend status only if they excel in the red-ball setup. However, Ambrose also mentioned that he loves T20 as well.

“There are so many different versions of the game these days. T20 bring a different type of audience, and it’s exciting. It’s a short game, and most people love it. I do love it as well, but for me, Test cricket is the ultimate,” said Ambrose.

“At the end of a career, you will be judged on how many Test matches you’ve played, how many wickets you’ve taken as a bowler, how many runs you’ve scored as a batsman. It has to be Test cricket to gain legendary status,” he added.

Ambrose then revealed his Retro T20 XI and stated that he is picking players from his era up to the year 2000 when he retired from international cricket. The 57-year-old started the proceedings by naming Gordon Greenidge and Sanath Jayasuriya as openers. Greenidge had played 128 ODIs, scoring 5134 runs at an average of 45. Similarly, Jayasuriya had amassed 13,430 runs from 445 ODIs.

Next on the list of Ambrose were Viv Richards, Jacques Kallis and Collis King. While Richards made 6721 runs in the white-ball format, Kallis accumulated 11,579 runs in ODIs. Kallis also scored 2427 runs in the T20 format. On the other hand, King made 2738 runs in his List-A career.

For the wicket-keeper’s spot, Ambrose went with Australian star Adam Gilchrist, who amassed 9619 runs in ODIs and 2622 runs in T20s. The former Antiguan cricketer named Ian Botham as an all-rounder. He picked Shane Warne and Muttiah Muralitharan as spinners.

For the fast bowlers, Ambrose selected Wasim Akram and Joel Garner. Akram picked up 502 wickets in ODIs, whereas Garner bagged 146 scalps in the 50-over format.

Interestingly, Ambrose did not pick any Indian cricketer in his list. The likes of Sachin Tendulkar, who played well before the 2000s was completely ignored by the West Indies veteran.

Apart from naming the XI, Ambrose also picked his favourite cricketers from the current era. He picked Virat Kohli, Joe Root and Jasprit Bumrah as his most loved players of modern-day cricket.

Ridhima Pathak, Zainab Abbas, Archana Vijaya and Karishma Kotak among the other female cricket presenters have paid tributes to former Team India captain MS Dhoni as the latter has announced his retirement from international cricket.

On Saturday (August 15), taking to Instagram, the veteran wicket-keeper-batsman Dhoni shared a video and captioned the post, “Thanks a lot for ur love and support throughout. from 1929 hrs consider me as Retired.”

The video had the iconic song ‘Mai Pal Do Pal Ka Shayar Hu’ from Amitabh Bachchan’s ‘Kabhie Kabhie’ playing in the background and in it, Dhoni shared his incredible journey in the Indian side including his run out in the last game against New Zealand in the 2019 World Cup 2semifinal.

Dhoni was slated to return to the cricket field on March 29 during the IPL’s opening match between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians. However, the tournament was postponed amid COVID-19 and will now be played in the UAE from September 19 to November 10.

Dhoni will continue to lead CSK in the IPL.

In a bid to spread awareness with regards to road safety, legends of the gentlemen’s game have come together in the Road Safety World Series 2020. The first two games saw India Legends and Sri Lanka Legends triumph over West Indies Legends and Australia Legends, respectively.

The third match is taking place between Sachin Tendulkar-led India Legends and Tillakaratne Dilshan-led Sri Lanka Legends at DY Patil Sports Academy in Mumbai. However, for the legends, even fielding for full 20 overs is not easy in the post-retirement life, and former India opener Virender Sehwag’s recent words made it evident.

The 41-year-old Sehwag jokingly said that his captain’s decision to bowl first after winning the toss is leaving a toll on their bodies since they have to run around the ground for full 20 overs.

“We are getting sore while fielding and Sachin elected to bowl first and makes us field 20 overs, tires us before batting,” Sehwag told TV Presenter Karishma Kotak.

The tournament will take place from March 07 to March 22 as per the schedule and will be played across Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Pune.

A total of five teams will participate in the Road Safety World Series 2020: India Legends, Australia Legends, Sri Lanka Legends, South Africa Legends and West Indies Legends.

The tournament will be played as per the round-robin format, with each team facing the other once. The top two teams from the league stage will face off in the final, which will take place on March 22 at Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai.
