In the second Test match between Sri Lanka and New Zealand, Sri Lanka asserted their dominance, leaving the Blackcaps struggling to stay afloat.?? With a 1-0 lead in the two-match seri?es after a comprehensive victory in the first Test, the hosts are in prime position to secure a series sweep.

Sri Lanka’s spin wizard, Prabath Jayasuriya, has been at the heart of the Blackcaps’ misery, continuing his remarkable form from the first Test. Jayasuriya, who claimed 9 wickets in the series opener, was the star once again, picking up 6 crucial wickets in New Zealand’s first innings, reducing the visitors to a paltry 88 runs.

Prabath Jayasuriya’s magic strikes again

Jayasuriya wasted no time getting into the action, striking early in the 9th over of New Zealand’s first innings. Devon Conway was the first to fall, controversially given out after a review. Jayasuriya’s delivery skidded on straight, squared Conway up, and found the outside edge before being smartly caught by Dhananjaya de Silva at slip. Although Conway reviewed the on-field decision?, the third umpire upheld the call, dismissing him for 9 runs (off 21 balls).

The second wicket followed shortly after, with New Zealand’s stalwart Kane Williamson falling to a classic spinner’s trap in the 17th over. Playing with uncharacteristically hard hands, Williamson edged a delivery from Jayasuriya straight into the hands of Dhananjaya, who gleefully accepted the catch. Williamson’s cautious 7 from 53 deliveries wasn’t enough to withstand Jayasuriya’s relentless accuracy.

The wickets continued to tumble, with Tom Blundell departing in the 27th over, caught yet again by Dhananjaya, whose reflex catch at slip left Blundell stunned. In the very same over, Glenn Phillips fell for a duck, edging another turning delivery into Dhananjaya’s safe hands. With four wickets down, New Zealand was in tatters, thanks to Jayasuriya’s brilliant bowling and Dhananjaya’s flawless slip-catching.

By the 31st over, the carnage continued as Daryl Mitchell, attempting a big shot to ease pressure, mistimed his lofted drive and was caught by Angelo Mathews at long-on, gifting Jayasuriya his five-wicket haul. The collapse was completed in the 33rd over when Tim Southee edged a sharp turning ball, resulting in a fifth catch for Dhananjaya and a sixth wicket for Jayasuriya. The Blackcaps were all-??out for a mere 88 in their first innings, with no answer to Jayasuriya’s magic.

Sri Lanka’s batting masterclass

Earlier, Sri Lanka had posted an imposing 602/5 declared in their first innings, thanks to centuries from Dinesh Chandimal, Kamindu Mendis, and Kusal Mendis. The trio?s stellar performances, combined with aggressive stroke play, left New Zealand with a monumental task of cha?sing down a massive deficit.

Trailing by 514 runs, New Zealand was forced to follow on. As the match progressed into the third day, the visitors managed to put up a slightl??y better fight in their second innings. At the close of play, due to bad light and weather, New Zealand was 119/5 after 41 overs, still trailing by a ?daunting 315 runs. Jayasuriya continued to torment the Blackcaps, with Sri Lankas spinners once again looking dangerous on a turning Galle pitch.

In a strategic move, Sri Lanka have won the toss and chose to bat first in the 2nd Test against New Zealand. This match follows their recent victory in the first Test held in Galle, where they triumphed by a margin of 63 runs.

Lineup changes for Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka have made two significant changes to their lineup for the second Test. Milan Rathnayake, an all-rounder, has been brought in to replace Lahiru Kumara, a fast bowler who has been an integral part of the bowling attack. Additionally, Nishan Peiris will take over from Ramesh Mendis, aiming to bolster the team’s performance.

Reason behind donning black armbands

On Day 1 of the match, the New Zealand players wore black armbands to pay tribute to Ian Taylor, who recently passed away. Taylor had a distinguished career in various roles within New Zealand Cricket (NZC), serving as a board director, manager of the Kiwi men’s team, and chair of Cricket Wellington. The Blackcaps expressed their condolences in a statement: “The Test team is wearing black armbands on Day 1 of the 2nd Test in Galle to honor the passing of former BLACKCAPS manager, NZC director & Cricket Wellington chair Ian Taylor #SLvNZ.” This gestur?e highlights the respect and gratitude?? the cricket community holds for Taylor’s contributions.

The duo has forged a strong partnership, accumulating 80 runs in 24 overs at a run rate of 3.34. New Zealand’s bowlers, Ajaz Patel and Mitchell Santner, have struggled to take wickets, with Patel c??onceding 30 runs in 10 overs and Santner only 7 runs in 6 overs. The current run rate stands at 3.80, with 65 overs remaining in the innings. Sri Lanka maintains all three reviews, while New Zealand also? have three reviews available.

Prabath Jayasuriya played a pivotal role in Sri Lanka‘s 63-run victory over New Zealand in the first Test at Galle on Monday (September 23). His left-arm spin proved to be the decisive factor, as he took nine wickets across both innings, including a crucial five-wicket haul in the second innings. Jayasuriya’s performance, particularly on the final day, sealed the win for Sri Lanka, wrapping up New Zealand’s second innings for 211, leaving them?? short of the 275-run target.

The final day at Galle: Breaking New Zealand’s resistance

New Zealand resumed the Day 5 needing just 68 runs to win with two wickets in hand. However, Jayasuriya quickly crushed their hopes. His first major breakthrough came when he trapped the overnight batter, Rachin Ravindra, leg-before-wicket for 92. Ravindra, who had kept New Zealand alive with a resilient knock on Day 4, was outdone by Jayasuriya’s precision, This crucial dismissal signaled the beginning of the end for the Black Caps. In Jayasuriya’s very next over, he bowled the last man, William O’Rourke, for a duck, securing Sri Lanka’s hard-fought victory in just 3.4 overs on the fifth day.

  • Rachin Ravindra (69.3): Jayasuriya gets the much-needed breakthrough for Sri Lanka by dismissing the well-set Ravindra, who was nearing a century. Tossed up on middle and leg, it’s an arm ball that Ravindra misreads, playing down the wrong line. The umpire gives it out LBW after a lengthy consideration, and despite Ravindra’s review, the decision stands as the ball was pitching in line. Ravindra departs for 92 off 168 balls, leaving New Zealand at 209/9.
  • William O’Rourke (71.4): Jayasuriya wraps up the innings with his fifth wicket, delivering a fuller ball from wide of the crease on off-stump. It straightens, and O’Rourke, playing for the line, misses it as the ball clips the top of off-stump. This wicket seals a five-wicket haul for Jayasuriya, ending New Zealand’s innings at 211.

Prabath Jayasuriya’s match-winning spell

Jayasuriya’s second-innings figures of 5/68 in 30.4 overs highlighted his dominance throughout the match. His spell on Day 4 had already wrecked New Zealand’s top and middle order, claiming the prized wickets of star players Kane Williamson, Tom Blundell and Glenn Phillips.

  • Kane Williamson (16.2): Jayasuriya outfoxes Williamson, who was using his feet confidently throughout the innings. Anticipating Williamson’s charge, Jayasuriya pulls his length back slightly, causing the batter to miss. The ball turns past the edge, and Mendis completes a neat stumping. Williamson is dismissed for 30 runs off 46 balls, leaving New Zealand at 51/2.
  • Tom Blundell (46.1): Jayasuriya strikes again with his consistent strategy of bowling over the wicket. Blundell attempts a premeditated reverse sweep to a delivery tossed outside leg but misses. The ball spins sharply into the stumps, sending Blundell back for 30 off 43 balls, reducing New Zealand to 152/5.
  • Glenn Phillips (51.5): With clever balling, Jayasuriya dismisses Phillips. A sharp ball catches Phillips’ edge as he attempts to defend, and it’s taken cleanly by Kusal Mendis at head height. Phillips departs for 4 runs from 14 balls, leaving New Zealand at 171/6.

Here’s the video:

Jayasuriya’s impressive stats for Sri Lanka

This stellar performance marked Jayasuriya’s eighth five-wicket haul in Test cricket. Across the match, he picked up nine wickets, adding to his career tally of 88 wickets in just 15 Tests at an impressive average of 29.27. Notably, 13 of his wickets have now come against New Zealand, underlining his knack for troubling the Black Caps’ batters

Earlier Sri Lanka posted 305 in their first innings, with Kamindu Mendis scoring a century, while New Zealand responded with 340, thanks to fifties from Latham, Williamson and Daryl Mitchell. In Sri Lanka’s second essay, Dimuth Karunaratne’s 83 helped the hosts set New Zealand a target of 275. Ajaz Patel was the standout bowler for the Black Caps, taking six wickets in Sri Lanka’s second innings. Despite a valiant fight from New Zealand, including Ravindra’s 92, they were bowled out for 211, with Jayasuriya’s nine wickets leading Sri Lanka to a memorable win.

betvisa liveKane Williamson – Cricket Times - betvisa888 //betvisa68.com/2024/09/3-players-gujarat-titans-can-release-ahead-of-ipl-2025-auction/ Thu, 19 Sep 2024 02:40:47 +0000 //betvisa68.com/?p=155629

The Gujarat Titans, champions of the Indian Premier League 2022 (IPL), faced a? stark contrast in their 2024 campaign. After a promising start, their ??journey was marred by a series of disappointing performances, culminating in a finish outside the top four.

From champions to challengers: A saga of Hardik Pandya’s departure

Hardik Pandya‘s move to the Mumbai Indians left a significant void in the Gujarat Titans’ batting lineup and leadership. His all-round abilities, including his ability to finish innings and contribute with the ball, were sorely missed. His absence also disrupted the team’s balance and dynamic.

Mohammed Shami’s loss and bowling woes

Mohammed Shami‘s injury was another major blow to the Titans. His ability to swing the ball both ways and take wickets at crucial moments was a key asset. The team struggled to find consistent replacements for his bowling prowess, leading to a decline in their overall bowling performance.

Shubman Gill’s growth as a captain

While Shubman Gill faced challenges as a young captain, his resilience and determination were evident throughout the season. His ability to learn from his mistakes and adapt to the pressures of leadership was a positive sign. As he gains experience, Gill has the potential to? de?velop into a successful captain.

Lessons for the future

The Gujarat Titans’ 2024 campaign offers valuable lessons for the team. They need to address the issues that contributed to their struggles, such as finding suitable replacements for departed players and strengthening their bowling attack. Additionally, they should continue to nurture young talent and provide them with opportunities to develop. By learning from their mistakes and making necessary adjustments, the Titans can hope to return to their winning ways in future seasons.

3 potential key releases by Gujarat Titans ahead of IPL auction

The Gujarat Titans are expected to make significant changes to their squad ahead of the upcoming season. With a disappointing performance in IPL 2024, the team is looking to bo?lster their roster and regain their winning form.

Kane Williamson: A Disappointing Tenure

Kane Williamson, the former Sunrisers Hyderabad captain, was brought in by the Titans as a marquee player. However, his stint with the team proved to be a disappointment. Despite his vast experience and proven track record, Williamson struggled to adapt to the Titans’ playing style. In IPL 2024, he played only 2 matches and scored just 27 runs at an average of 13.50 and a strike rate of 100.00. His below-par performances and high salary make him a likely candidate for release.

Vijay Shankar: Inconsistencies and lack of impact

Vijay Shankar, a versatile all-rounder, was expected to play a crucial role in the Titans’ batting lineup. However, he failed to deliver consistent performances throughout the season. In IPL 2024, Shankar played seven matches and scored 83 runs at an average of 16.60 and a strike rate of 115.27. His lack of impact with both bat and ball makes him a potential target for release.

Umesh Yadav: Struggles with economy rate

Umesh Yadav, a seasoned fast bowler, was brought in to strengthen the Titans’ bowling attack. However, he struggled to contain the opposition batters. In IPL 2024, Yadav played seven matches and took just one wicket at an average of 26.25 and an economy rate of 15.7. His high economy rate made him a liability for the team, and his release seems inevitable.

These changes are necessary to rejuvenate the team and improve their chances of winning the championship. With a significant amount of money to spend in the auction, the Titans have the opportunity to build a strong and competitive s??q??uad for the upcoming season.
