England have announced significant changes to their white-ball setup ahead of the upcoming series against Australia, with Jos Buttler ruled out of the T20I matches due ??to a calf? injury.

Jos Buttler’s injury concerns

Jos, the regular white-ball captain, has been sidelined after experiencing a setback in his recovery from a calf injury that previously kept him out of the T20 Blast. The injury has prevented him from participating in the series against Australia, where he was expected to lead the team following a disappointing T20 World Cup campaign earlier this year. Buttler’s last appearance for England was during the T20 World Cup semi-final against India in June.

The England management is ho??peful that Buttler will recover in t?ime for the five-match ODI series that follows the T20Is, but his availability remains uncertain.

New T20I captain for Australia series

With Buttler unavailable, Phil Salt has been named captain for the T20 series. Salt has been a consistent per?former in domestic cricket and has previously played in the T20 format for England, making him a suitable choice to lead the side.

In addition to Salt’s appointment, the England squad for the T20I series has seen the inclusion of several new faces. Jamie Overton has been added to the T20I squad, while Jordan Cox, who was already part of the T20I setup, has been included in the ODI squad as a backup wicketkeeper. The selectors have also called up uncapped players like Josh Hull, Jacob Bethell and John Turner, indicating a shift towards building?? a fresh squad f??or the future.

The T20I series against Australia kicks off at the Rose Bowl in Southampton on September 11, followed by matches in C??ardiff and Manchester. The ODIs will commence on September 19, with England looking to bou??nce back after a series of disappointing performances in recent international tournaments.

Cox almost got the enough power, but Hose at long on took a superb catch. He caught it at the shoulder height and upon realising that he was losing his ba?lance, Hose threw it up as he took ?a step beyond boundary rope to compose himself and then completed the catch.

Young Indian fast bowler Arshdeep Singh made an impactful debut for Kent in the ongoing County Championship Division 1 clash against Surrey at the St Lawrence Ground in Canterbury.

Arshdeep, who joined Kent after the conclusion of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, showcased his talent by picking up his maiden wicket in the prestigious tournament. Although Arshdeep remained wicketless in his first eight overs, he displayed excellent control and kept the runs in check. His persistence paid off in the ninth over when he bowled a well-directed delivery to Surrey batsman Ben Foakes.

Foakes was caught on the crease, and the ball struck him on the pads, prompting the umpire to raise his finger and signal ‘out’.

Here’s the video:

Arshdeep’s impressive debut continued as he added another wicket to his tally, contributing to Surrey’s collapse. They were bowled out for a mere 145.

Kent gained a substantial first-innings lead of 156 runs. Kent had earlier posted a competitive total of 301 in their first innings, with batsman Jordan Cox playing a brilliant knock of 133 runs, comprising 17 ?fours and two ?sixes.

Arshdeep, who represents Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the IPL, has shown promise in domestic cricket and burst onto the scene during the 2019 edition of the IPL. In his T20I career for India, the left-armer has scalped 41 wickets in 26 matches since making his debut against England in July 2022. Notably, he was India’s leading wicket-taker during their T20 campaign in 2022, claiming ten wickets in six matches at an impressive average of 15.60.

While the Madhya Pradesh-born seamer is y?et to make? his debut in Test cricket, his performances in first-class matches have been noteworthy. In seven first-class games, he has taken 25 wickets, and showed his potential of being a potent bowler in the longest format.

In this year’s UK County season, Kent thumped past Sussex at Canterbury with the help of a quadruple-century partnership which was only curtailed by a new regulation put in place.

Kent’s batting mainstay, Jordan Cox (238*) and Jack Leaning (220*) added a 423-run partnership for the second wicket. The dynamic duo helped Kent post a monumental 530-1 in reply to Sussex’s score of 332.

Leaning and Cox notched up Kent’s highest partnership in County cricket. Their mega-partnership is the third-highest unbroken second-wicket stand in first-class cricket history.

The two were all set to add to the agony of the Sussex bowler’s before a new regulation gave respite to the latter.

It was decided that due to the prolonged COVID-19 hiatus, each team’s first innings score would be capped at the end of 120 overs.

Due to the gap and lack of pre-season training, bowler’s might sustain an injury while bowling long spells. Also, the regular County Championship has been displaced by the Bob Willis Trophy, which is a shortened-red ball competition.

Therefore, the number overs per-day were reduced to 90 from the original quota of 96 overs. Further, teams can only bat for 120 overs in an innings at the max?imum.

“It’s a dream come true and I am really happy. I was a bit nervous, everyone is a bit nervous when they walk out, but I said to myself, ‘it’s a good wicket, play good shots and you will get the rewards,” Cox was quoted as saying by cricket.com.au.

“I was absolutely chuffed to get my first 100. I had dreamed of it but I never thought it would come this early,” he added.

Furthermore, England’s world-cup winner Jonny Bairstow played his first red-ball match for Yorkshire in over two years. He managed to score 75 against Nottinghamshire at Trent B?ridge.

Elsewhere, in t??he Derbyshire and Leicestershire game, tweaker Matt Critchley ended with his career-best tally of 6 for 73.
