SA20, a T20 f?ranchise cricket tournament orga?nised by Cricket South Africa (CSA), is all set to be played from January 10 to February 11. The inaugural season of the T20 extravaganza will see as many as six teams competing across six venues – Paarl, Cape Town, Durban, Johannesburg, Eastern Cape and Pretoria.

Many overseas stars, including World Cup-winning England captain Jos Buttler, all-rounder Sam Curran, Afghanistan wrist-spinner Rashid Khan, New Zealand all-rounder Jimmy Neesham and West Indies’ seamer Alzarri Joseph will be seen in action.

The much-awaited SA20 league â€?South Africa’s inaugural T20 tournament â€?is all set to begin today, with MI Cape Town taking on Paarl Royals in ??the opening match at the ?iconic Newlands cricket stadium.

A total of 33 matches will be played from January 10 to February 11 in six venues. Apart from MI Cape Town and Paarl Royals, four other global franchises participating in the 20-over showpiece event are Durban Super Giants, Joburg Super Kings, Sunrisers Eastern Cape and Pretoria Capitals.

Bef??ore the 20-over competition starts, the SA20 announced exciting additions to its playing format. To endorse the innovation in the game, each captain can nominate 13 players to take the field ahead of toss. Further, after the toss, the captain will have the right to pick a final XI, while the remaining two ??players will become the substitute players.

Teams will also be encouraged to exhibit their ‘A Game’ as according to the new rules, the winning team will be awarded four points and a bonus-point as well, subject to a team who achieves a run rate of 1.25 times that of the opposition. In case of no result, both teams will be awarded two points.

In case of an intentional attempt to run out the batter, there will be no extra runs if a direct hit deflects off the stumps. Additionally, a bowled dismissal can’t lead to byes if the ball ricochets off the stumps on a free hit.

Moreover, if teams finish on equal points, the right to progress through to the final and in the play-off will be determined a??s follows:

• the team with the most number of wins;
• If still equal, the team with the highest number of bonus points;
• If still equal, the team with the highest net run rate;
• If still equal, the team with the most number of wins over the other team(s) who are equal on points and have the same number of wins;
• If still equal, the team with the highest runs-to-wickets ratio throughout the tournament;
• If still equal, the team with the highest wickets to runs ratio throughout the tournament.

Cricket South Africa (CSA) on Tuesday announced the complete schedule for the inaugural edition of the SA20 League.

The star-studded to??urnament will run from January 10 to February 11, 2023 as it will be halted between January 25 and Fe??bruary 1 when South Africa hosts England for a three-match ODI series.

Each of the six SA20 franchises – MI Cape Town (MICT), Paarl Royals (PR), Pretoria Capitals (PC), Jo’burg Super Kings (JSK), Durban’s Super Giants (DSG) and Sunrisers Eastern Cape (SEC) – will have five home and five away matches, with the fixtures in Cape Town, Paarl and Gqeberha to be completed first as these venues need to be ready before February 10 for the 2023 Women’s T20 World Cup.

Start times for the matches ?are s?et for 13:30 and 17:30 local time, which would be 17:00 and 21:00 IST, respectively.

“Fans will be able to watch the best local and international T20 stars live in action at prime viewing times for the afternoon and evening matches,” Graeme Smith, SA20 lea??gue commissioner, said in an official statement.

MICT will take on PC in the ?inaugural match of SA20 League on January 10, 2023 at Newlands Cricket Ground in Cape Town.
