Joe Root, the England batting stalwart, is currently experiencing one of the best periods of his Test cricket career. The former England captain has been in scintillating form, piling up runs across various condit?ions and opponents. His exceptional consistency has cemented his place as one of the most dependable batters in modern cricket, as he continues to dominate bowlers with his elegant technique and adaptability.

Leading the charts among Fab Four

Root stands tall among the contemporary ‘Fab Four’ of cricket, which includes Virat Kohli, Kane Williamson, and Steve Smith. Not only he has scored more Test runs than his fellow elite batters, but his ability to accumulate runs in pressure situations has made him a standout performer. While Kohli, Williamson, and Smith have all had phases of brilliance, Root’s consistency in all conditions sets him apart, further strengthening his case as the best red-ball batter of his generation.

Surpasses Alastair Cook’s record

In a significant achievement last month, Root surpassed Alastair Cook‘s record for the most Test centuries by an England cricketer. His 34th century pushed him past Cook’s tally of 33, making him the most successful Test century scorer for England. Root’s remarkable ability to convert his starts into big hundreds has been a crucial factor in England’s batting success in recent years, and this milestone has further solidified his legacy in the annals of English cricket history.

Michael Vaughan picks two bowlers who can limit Joe Root

However, despite Root’s current dominance, former England captain Michael Vaughan believes there are a few bowlers who could pose a significant challenge to the Englishman in the near future. In his recent column for The Telegraph, Vaughan identified India’s Jasprit Bumrah and Australia’s Pat Cummins as the two bowl??ers capable of restricting Root’s run-scoring abilities.

“He can’t do it every week, and he didn’t do it this week. Jasprit Bumrah enjoys bowling at Root, and could severely limit his output next summer. The same goes for Pat Cummins in Australia, where Root has never scored a hundred. England have to have ways of succeeding when Root doesn’t make big runs,” wrote Vaughan.

Root’s biggest threats

Bumrah and Cummins have established themselves as two of the most formidable fast bowlers in Test cricket, and both have a history of troubling Root. Bumrah’s unique, deceptive action, coupled with his pinpoint accuracy, has made him one of the most effective bowlers against top-o??rder batters. His ability to reverse swing the ball and consistently target the stumps makes him a particularly dangerous prospect for Root.

On the other hand, Cummins, with his raw pace, bounce, and relentless accuracy, has always been a tough adversary for Root in Australian conditions. Root’s inability to score a century in Australia reflects Cummins?dominance on his home turf, and ??both bowlers will likely be crucial in limiting Root’s impact in future series.

betvisa cricketJaspit Bumrah – Cricket Times - betvisa888 live //betvisa68.com/2022/07/stats-most-runs-in-an-over-in-test-cricket/ Sat, 02 Jul 2022 13:58:23 +0000 //betvisa68.com/?p=64425

History was created by Jasprit Bumrah on Day 2 of the ongoing fifth Test at Edgbaston in Birmingham when the stand-in India captain took England pacer Stuart Broad to the cleaners, smashing 35 runs in the over.

Bumrah displayed his super ability with the bat by collecting 35 from Broad’s final over as India posted 416 in their first innings. Bumrah hit Broad for two massive sixes (one came from a no-ball), four boundaries, a single and was helped with five wides in the record-breaking over.

Here is how the over went:

  • 83.1: Broad to Bumrah, FOUR. Bumrah took on the short ball and top-edges it. Fielder Zak Crawley ran to his left and dived, but the ball escaped through his hands for a boundary.
  • 83.2: Broad to Bumrah, 5 wides. The bowler went for a bumper, but it was too short as the ball flew over the keeper for a four.
  • 83.2: Broad to Bumrah, no ball, SIX. Broad again went for a shot delivery, and Bumrah took it on. The top edge flew right over the keeper for a maximum.
  • 83.2: Broad to Bumrah, FOUR. The bowler attempted the yorker but ended up delivering a full toss, and Bumrah swung it over mid-on for a boundary.
  • 83.3: Broad to Bumrah, FOUR. Broad went for a good length ball, and Bumrah slogged across the line but the inside edge escaped past the stumps and raced to the fine leg fence.
  • 83.4: Broad to Bumrah, FOUR. Broad went round the wicket, but nothing changed. Another short delivery, and Bumrah pulled it over square leg. The batter fell on the pitch but still sent the ball in the gap for a four.
  • 83.5: Broad to Bumrah, SIX. Another short delivery by Broad and Bumrah slapped it to long leg for a flat six.
  • 83.6: Broad to Bumrah, 1 run, 35 runs off the over – highest ever in Test cricket. Broad finally nailed the yorker, and Bumrah dug it out and ran for a risky single with Mohammed Siraj at the other end. Broad ran forward, collected the ball and hit the stumps, but Siraj made his ground thanks to his full-length dive.

This also meant that the expensive over surpassed the previous record held by West Indies legend Brian Lara, Australia’s George Bailey and South Africa’s Keshav Maharaj. Notably, Lara smashed 28 runs off Robin Peterson‘s over back in 2003, while Bailey smacked James Anderson in 2013. Similarly, Maharaj slammed Joe Root in 2020 to share the record.

Most runs off an over in Test cricket:

  • 35 – Jasprit Bumrah off Stuart Broad, Birmingham 2022*
  • 28 – Brian Lara off Robin Peterson, Johannesburg 2003
  • 28 – George Bailey off James Anderson, Perth 2013
  • 28 – Keshav Maharaj off Joe Root, Port Elizabeth 2020
