In a scary incident, IPL auctioneer Hugh Edmeades collapsed midway during the IPL 2022 auction? taking place in Bengaluru.

The incident happened when the 63-year-old auctioneer was going through a long bidding war between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) over Sri Lankan all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga. The bidding process was immediately halted as the camera caught Edmeades lying flat on? the floor of ??the auction room.

The official broadcasters then went to a?? lunch break and did not return to t?he auction afterwards.

Thankfully, Edmeades was OK. Now, Indian commentator Charu Sharma will resume the bidding process, set to resume at 3:30 ?pm IST.

“Update from ground zero! Hugh Edmeades the auctioneer is fine but a bit shaken! Was a physical fall no internal issues with him,” tweeted TV presenter Gautam Bhimani.

“Relief. Hugh Edmeades is fine,” wrote sp??orts writer turned journalist, Ayaz Mem??on.

Edmeades is a British international fine art, classic car and ?charity auctioneer. In his 35-year career as a Christie’s auctioneer, he has conducted more than 2,500 auctions, selling over 310,000 lots for a sum in excess of £2.7 billion.

The players’ auction for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 is ready to take place on? February 12 and 13 at Hotel ITC Gardenia in Bengaluru. Notably, it is the fifteenth IPL auction and the fifth mega-auction, with the last one, occurred in 2018.

As many as 590 players (370 Indian and 220 overseas) are part of the bidding process. Ahead of the auction, 30 players were retained by the eight existing franchises, while the two new teams – Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans ?roped in three players each.

It would be interesting to see how many players amongst 229 capped, 354 uncapped, and seven from the Associate teams would fetch a big deal in the auction. Many experts have already revealed their picks in different categories. Following the pattern, senior Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has also made a huge prediction regarding an uncapped Indian player, who can ?trigger a bidding war.

Ashwin named fast bowler Avesh Khan as his choice and felt that franchises would fight it out to get the Madhya Pradesh pacer in the squad. Avesh, who made his IPL debut in 2017, grabbed the limelight in the 2021 season with consistent performances for Delhi Capitals (DC).

The right-arm pacer played 16 matches for the Capitals and took 24 wickets at an ??economy rate of 7.37. Despite showing utmost consistency, Avesh was released by DC ahead of the mega-auct??ion.

“There is definitely going to be a bidding war for Avesh Khan. No doubt about that. Guarantee. Just like how Vijay Mallya fought for me with CSK in 2010, I can picture a Parth Jindal or a Kiran Rao fighting it out for Avesh Khan this year. With whom will they fight? Well, that might be any team,” said Ashwin on his YouTube channel.

Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra has picked a list of finishers who will fetch a high price tag in the upcoming mega-auction for Ind?ian Premier League (IPL) 2022. Finishers are extremely crucial for any franchise as they set up the game nicely with their power-hitting at the later stages of an ??innings.

Chopra reckoned that the finishers might not be in the race for the Orange Cap but will come in as match-winners for IPL franchises. Notably, the likes of MS Dhoni, Hardik Pandya, Andre Russell, Kieron Pollard are ??some standout names who have proven their dexterity as the finishers for their respective sides.

However, these giants of the game have already been bought or retained ahead of the forthcoming auction. But still, there are few names on whom every franchise will be eying in the players’ bidding process, and Chopra has picked such stars who will be on the target of every team.

The cricketer-turned-commentator started the proceedings by naming Shahrukh Khan as his first choice. Chopra opined that Shahrukh w??ould end up as the most expensive uncapped Indian player in IPL 2022 aucti?ons.

“In my opinion, the finisher’s job is the most difficult because you get 10-15 deliveries. This is a very short list, and I feel, Shahrukh Khan will be the most expensive uncapped Indian at the IPL 2022 Auction. He is the only Indian left whom you can expect to play the finisher’s role well. Whether he does that or not, we don’t know, but the expectation is that he will be able to do that, so he will be sold very expensive,” said Chopra on his YouTube channel.

Chopra then went with South African David Miller, stating the explosive left-handed batter will ??also ?find takers at the auction.

“That is why David Miller is bought every time – he is not getting bought very expensive because his performances have not been very good in the recent past. I feel he will be bought this year as well,” added Chopra.

Chopra also picked Indian all-rounder Deepak Hooda and England’s star Liam Livingstone as finishers who will be in demand.

“Deepak Hooda- his name has come in the team, the attempt is being made to prepare him as a finisher. He could be sold expensive if he has a good ODI series. You can get Liam Livingstone to do that job, he does something close to that for England,” explained the 44-year-old.

Chopra further selected a few other players such as Dinesh Karthik, Mitchell Marsh, Dwayne Bravo and Sam Billings for the role of finishers who will gain attraction f??rom the franchise?s.

“There are very few cricketers like that in world cricket. You repeatedly go towards Dinesh Karthik because of that. Mitchell Marsh – he is extraordinary, but there is also an injury issue. Then Dwayne Bravo, Sam Billings – he is good, but it is sometimes difficult to hit in Indian conditions,” Chopra concluded.

The players’ auction of the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 is all set to take place in Bengaluru on February 12 and 13. This year, the auction will be huge as from 2022 onwards, the cash-rich league will be a 10-team affair with ??two new s??ides entering the competition.

Notably, all 10 teams were allotted a purse of INR 90 crore, which was utilised firstly by the already existing eight teams, who revealed the list of players they retained ahead of the players’ auction. In total, 27 players have been retained by the teams, which include 19 Indians and 8 overseas. Further, six more players were picked in the drafts by the two new franchises (three players each) – Lucknow and Ahmedabad.

There is no doubt that several stars will now go under the hammer in the auctions and the franchises would be keen to buy their services. But who will be able to crack a million-dollar deal would be the red-hot topic amongst fans, and regarding the same, veteran Indian commentator Harsha Bhogle has named two players who can fetch the big bucks i?n IPL 2022.

Bhogle first picked explosive opening batter Ishan Kishan, who was released by Mumbai Indians (MI) prior to the auction process. Bhogle reckoned that Ishan fulfils three basic requirements – Indian player, left-handed batter and wicketkeeper ?which every franchise looks for in the auctions.

“Ishan Kishan, because he ticks off an Indian player, left-hander, wicketkeeper?left-hand top-order wicketkeeper, that’s three boxes you’re looking for,” said Bhogle on Cricbuzz.

Bhogle then named Tamil Nadu star Shahrukh Khan, who impressed one and all with his exploits in the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in IPL 2021. The veteran commentator felt that Shahrukh, who was not retained by PBKS for the next season, reminds him of explosive batter Yusuf Pathan.

“I’m expecting him to do really well this year because there is a spark about him, and he’s got a huge presence at the crease. He’s big built, a bit like Yusuf Pathan. You know, Yusuf Pathan in his prime when he was batting, he had that presence about him at the crease, and I find a little bit of that in Shahrukh Khan,” added Bhogle.
