At the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, veteran Bangladeshi cricketer Shakib Al Hasan sealed a historic victory by smashing a boundary off Pakistan leg-spinner Abrar Ahmed. This shot not only secured Bangladeshs six-wicket win in the second Test but also marked their first-ever men’s Test series victory over Pakistan on Pakistan soil.

Disastrous series defeat against Bangladesh

As Shakib celebrated with his teammate Mushfiqur Rahim, their jubilant comrades rushed onto the field to join the celebrations. For Bangladesh, it was a momentous occasion, especially considering they had lost 12 of their previous 13 encounters with Pakistan. The contrast could not have been starker for the hosts. Captain Shan Masood and his side walked off the field, symbolic of the gloom enveloping Pakistan cricket after this unprecedented series defeat. It was only the second time in their history that Pakistan had been clean-sw?ept in a home Test series.

Javed Miandad on Pakistan’s cricket struggles

Former Test captain Javed Miandad did not mince words when reflecting on the series defeat. He highlighted the collapse of their batting throughout the series “It is deeply hurtful that our cricket has reached this stage. Bangladesh deserves credit for their disciplined performances, but the collapse of our batting throughout the series is a troubling sign,” He pointed to the turmoil within the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) as a significant factor affecting the playersâ€?confidence. “I wouldn’t just blame the players. The issues within the board and the constant changes in captaincy and management over the past year and a half have taken a toll on the team,” Miandad concluded.

Inzamam-ul-Haq on home series defeats

Former captain Inzamam-ul-Haq expressed concern over Pakistan’s dismal home record. Inzamam emphasized, highlighting the need for consistency among the batting lineup. “Losing three series and failing to win a single Test at home in nine attempts is alarming. Home series were once our stronghold, but to achieve success, the batsmen need to deliver runs,”  Inzamam said.

Younis Khan on the importance of mental resilience

Pakistan’s record-breaking batter Younis Khan stressed the importance of mental fortitude in overcoming the current crisis. He suggested that the team’s struggles are as much psychological as they are technical. “Our batters have performed well in the past, but right now, they need mental strengthening and clarity to break out of this losing streak,” Younis observed.

Ahmed Shehzad on batting challenges against pace

Former Test batter Ahmed Shehzad was particularly critical of the Pakistani batter’s inability to handle the Bangladeshi pacers. and called for a reevaluation of the team’s approach to batting. “If you can’t handle a bit of pace and movement even at home, then the future doesn’t look very bright for us,” Shehzad bluntly stated.

Iqbal Qasim on the need for spin focus

Former Test spinner Iqbal Qasim urged the team management to focus on grooming spin bowlers, arguing that Pakistan’s best chance of success at home lies in spin-friendly conditions. “We no longer have pacers of the calibre of Sarfaraz Nawaz, Imran Khan, Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, or Shoaib Akhtar. We should be banking on our spinners and providing them with supportive pitches,” Qasim advised.

Decline of a once-formidable force

Historically, Pakistan have been one of cricket’s powerhouses, with memorable triumphs like the ICC Men’s 50-over World Cup 1992 and the T20 World Cup 2024. However, recent performances have seen a sharp decline across all formats. The men’s side has been plagued by defeats against lowe??r-ranked teams in bilateral series and ??shocking results in global tournaments.

The T20 World Cup in 2024 saw Pakistan fail to advance beyond the first round after a shocking loss to the United States of America (USA). Their disappointing exit from the ODI Cricket World Cup 2023 in India, where they lost five of their nine matches, further underscored the team’s struggles. The defeat against Bangladesh in the second Test marked a new low for Pakistan cricket. It was their sixth defeat in the last 10 home Tests, and the first time Bangladesh had beaten them in a Test series. The magnitude of the loss prompted str??ong reactions from some of Pakistan’s greatest cricketing legends.

Mohammed Shami has publicly defended his Indian teammate Arshdeep Singh against allegations of ball tampering made by former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq. The accusatio?ns surfaced during a podcast hosted by Shubhankar Mishra, where Inzamam suggested that Arshdeep was engaged in dubious practices during the? T20 World Cup 2024.

Inzamam-ul-Haq’s allegations on Arshdeep Singh

Inzamam, a celebrated figure in cricket, raised eyebrows when he claimed that Arshdeep was manipulating the ball to achieve a reverse swing during a critical moment in the T20 World Cup match. He specifically pointed to the 15th over, suggesting that the Indian pacer was using illicit methods to enhance his bowling performance. This assertion has not only stirred controversy but al??so sparked a heated response from Shami, who felt compelled to addre?ss the claims directly.

Mohammed Shami’s burning reply

In a robust rebuttal, Shami dismissed Inzamam’s comments as “cartoongiri,” a term he used to describe what he perceives as trivial and unfounded accusations. He emphasized that such remarks are detrimental to the sport and undermine the integrity of players.

Shami stated, “I don’t expect that despite being ex-players you can say such thing. Even Wasim Akram said how umpires give you the ball and it is not possible to plant any device in it. This type of cartoongiri is not good. These statements are there to fool people.”

Here’s the video:

Shami further urged former cricketers to refrain from making unfounded claims that could mislead the public and tarnish players’ reputations. He expressed concern that such accusations could distract from the game and create unnecessary tension between rival teams.

“I have said in an interview that I will cut the ball and show if there is a device or not. Abhi ek aur namuna khod ke dia hai inhone. They said, ‘How can Arshdeep Singh get reverse swing?’ I want to say only one thing to Inzamam bhai. I respect him a lot. If you do the same thing, isn’t it ball-tampering? Those who do well against them, will be their target. India and Pakistan are arch-rivals. We should focus on cricket and not indulge in these kinds of baseless allegations,” Shami added, reinforcing his?? stance on ?maintaining sportsmanship and respect among players.

The impact of accusations

Accusations of ball tamperin??g are serious and can have significant repercussions for players and teams involved. The integrity of the game is paramount, and any suggestion of wrongdoing can lead to investigations a?nd disciplinary actions.

Cricket analysts and fans alike have weighed in on the controversy, with many supporting Shami’s call for accountability and respect. The cricketing community has largely rallied behind the idea that players should be allowed to perform without the shadow of suspicion hanging over them, particularly when such allegations are not substantiated by evidence.

Imam-ul-Haq, the Pakistan batter, recently unveiled his all??-time ODI XI for the Pakistan Nationa??l Cricket Team. His selection reflects a blend of iconic players spanning different eras of Pakistan cricket.

Opening prowess

For the opening pair, Imam chose Saeed Anwar and Babar Azam. Saeed, widely regarded as one of Pakistan’s best batters ever, earned his place at the top due to his prolific run-scoring and consistency. Babar, current captain of the team and one of the finest ODI batters globally, was selected to open alongside Anwar, primarily because of his outstanding performances over the past seven years.

“Since it was very difficult for me to set [him] in the middle order. So, I went for Babar Azam as the opener. The way he has performed in ODI cricket for the last seven years his performances for Pakistan are very good,” Imam was quoted as saying by A Sports.

Middle order dominance

Moving to the middle order, Imam picked Javed Miandad, Inzamam-ul-Haq and Mohammad Yousuf. These three stalwarts were pivotal in Pakistan’s success in ODIs, providing stability and match-winning performances throughout their careers.

Captain Marvel

Imran Khan, the legendary all-rounder who led Pakistan to their maiden World Cup victory in 1992, was chosen as the captain of the team. Known for his exceptional leadership and all-round skills, Imran Khan’s influence on Pakistan cricket in the 80s and 90s was immense.

Safe hands and power with the bat

In the wicketkeeper-batter role, Imam opted for Kamran Akmal. Despite other options like Moin Khan and Sarfaraz Khan, Akmal’s ability to deliver match-winning innings in ODIs swayed Imam’s decision.

“I’ll go with Kamran Akmal as the wicketkeeper-batsman. It was a bit tricky for me. There were a lot of options like Moin bhai and Saifi bhai but I’ll go with Kamran Akmal because he has a lot of match-winning performances in ODIs,” Imam concluded.

Bowling arsenal

Turning to the bowling department, Imam selected Saqlain Mushtaq, Mohammad Asif, Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis. Saqlain, known for his mastery of spin bowling and invention of the “doosra,” provided variety to the attack. Asif, renowned for his accuracy and ability to trouble batter, complemented the lethal pace duo of Akram and Younis, who are considered among the most feared bowlers in cricket history.

The 12th Man

Shahid Afridi, a dynamic all-rounder known for his explosive batting and effective leg-spin bowling, was named as the 12th man in Imam’s XI, highlighting his impact despite not making the starting lineup. While his son-in-law and Pakistan’s current leader of pace attack, Shaheen Afridi failed to make his place in the roaster.

As anticipation builds for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 final in Barbados, Team India stands ready to face South Africa in a highly anticipated c?lash. Throughout the tour??nament, the Men in Blue maintained an impeccable record, remaining undefeated in all their matches.

India’s triumph over Australia and England

In one of the tournament’s pivotal moments, India faced Australia in the Super 8 stage, a match they needed to win to secure the top spot in their group. This victory proved crucial, ensuring India’s advancement to the semi-finals even if adverse weather conditions affected their scheduled match against England.

In the semi-final, India showcased their dominance once again by defeating England convincin?gly, securing their place in the final match against South A??frica.

Controversy sparked by Inzamam-ul-Haq

However, amidst India’s successes, controversy erupted following their match against Australia. Former Pakistan cricket captain Inzamam-ul-Haq raised eyebrows with his comments on Indian bowler Arshdeep Singh. Inzamam had questioned the early reverse swing observed in the 15th over, suggesting that external factors may have been at play in achieving t?his bowling effect.

Rohit Sharma’s epic response

Following the controversial comments, Indian captain Rohit Sharma swiftly responded to Inzamam’s allegations, defending his team and dismissing any insinuation of foul play. With characteristic wit, Rohit pointed out the natural conditions in Barbados, where the tournament is being held, as conducive to reverse swing. He emphasized that such conditions are common in the Caribbean and should not be misconstrued as tampering.

“What can I say. Don’t you see the rough surfaces and the heat here? This isn’t Australia or England. Here the conditions will result in the ball reverse swinging in 12-15 overs. It’s happening for all teams and not us alone. Sometime people need to open their mind and think,” Rohit had ??said ahead of India versus England game.

Inzamam’s reaction and escalation

Inzamam, in turn, has now reacted strongly to Rohit’s remarks, expressing displeasure at being lectured on cricketing nuances by the Indian captain. He maintained his stance that his comments were justified, given the observations made during the match. Inzamam criticized Rohit for implying that his understanding of the game was lacking and argued that such allegations and responses should not overshadow the spirit of fair play in cricket.

“The first thing is he (Rohit Sharma) mentioned that reverse swing is happening, just like we said earlier. Secondly, Rohit Sharma doesn’t need to explain to us how reverse swing occurs, in what intensity of sunlight it happens, or on which pitch it occurs. Those who teach you these kinds of things don’t need to be told these things. We should tell him that such conversations are not appropriate,” reacted Inzamam while speaking to 24 News.

Team India are all set to take on England in the high-voltage second semi-final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. Ahead of the much-awaited game, Indian captain Rohit Sharma addressed the media, responding to ??recent allegations of ball-tampering against Indian fast bowlers.

Allegations by Inzamam-ul-Haq

Controversy arose when former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq alleged that Indian bowler Arshdeep Singh had tampered with the ball during their Super 8 match against Australia. Inzamam questioned the early reverse swing observed in the 15th over, suggesting that “significant work had been done” on the ball to achieve this effect.

“Arshdeep Singh, when he was bowling the 15th over, the ball was reversing. Is it too early (for reverse swing) with the new ball? This means the ball was ready for reverse swing by the 12th or the 13th over. Umpires should keep their eyes open (to spot) these things…If it was Pakistani bowlers (reverse swinging the ball) this would have been a big issue. We know reverse swing very well and if Arshdeep can come in the 15th over and start reversing the ball, it means some serious work had been done before,” Inzamam had said on Pakistani news channel.

Rohit Sharma’s firm rebuttal

The Indian captain refused to accept any part of the accusation made against left-arm bowler Arshdeep, who performed exceptionally well during India’s 24-run victory over Australia in St Lucia. In a pointed response to Inzamam’s claims of ball tampering, Rohit stressed that if the ball doesn’t reverse swing under these circumstances, where else would it, given that the Men in Blue are not competing in conditions similar to those found in Australia or England.

“What can I say. Don’t you see the rough surfaces and the heat here? This isn’t Australia or England. Here the conditions will result in the ball reverse swinging in 12-15 overs. It’s happening for all teams and not us alone. Sometime people need to open their mind and think,” said Rohit.

Former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq has sparked controversy by questioning the bowling methods of Indian fast bowler Arshdeep Singh. These accusations come after Arshdeep’s impressive performance of 3/37 against Australia in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Super 8 match.

Inzamam questions Arshdeep’s reverse swing

During a talk show appearance, Inzamam raised doubts about the legitimacy of Arshdeep’s bowling, specifically focusing on his ability to reverse-swing the ball in the 16th over. “Arshdeep Singh was reverse-swinging the ball in the 15th over. Isn’t that too early for a new ball?” he questioned. “This means the ball was ready for reverse swing by the 12th or 13th over. Umpires should be alert to such things,” Inzamam added.

It’s important to note that Arshdeep has been a standout performer throughout the tournament, currently at the second place in the list of the most wickets. However, Inzamam’s comments were further amplified by former Pakistan cricketer Saleem Malik, who appeared alongside him on the show.

Saleem Malik implies bias in umpiring calls

Malik suggested a potential bias towards certain teams when it comes to enf??orcing bowling regulations.

“Inzy [Inzamam], I always say this, eyes are kept shut when it comes to some teams, and India is one of those teams,” Malik claimed. He?? recounted a personal experience from his playing days where he wa?s penalized for questioning a similar situation.

Inzamam went on to suggest that a Pakistani bowler achieving similar feats might have attracted more scrutiny. “We know reverse swing very well,” he stated. “And if Arshdeep can reverse the ball in the 15th over, it means some serious work has been done before.” He acknowledged the possibility of natural factors contributing to the ball’s condition but emphasized the need for vigilance by umpires.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is yet to respond to Inzamam’s allegations. Arshdeep meanwhile, continues to be a vital cog in India’s bowling attack as they take on England in the semifinals. Cricket fans will be watching closely to see if these a?ccusations have any impact on the remainder of the tournament.

Navjot Singh Sidhu, who is a part of Hindi commentary panel on Star Sports for IPL 2024, has compared the wristwork of a star Indian batter with that of legendary cricketers Mohammad Azharuddin and Zaheer Abbas.

Despite India’s rich history of producing exceptional batters, the unique finesse in this particular batter’s wrist work captivated Sidhu so much that he couldn’t control his emotions and expressed his admiration.

Only three batters used their wrists with perfection: Sidhu

This statement came from the commentator during the match between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on April 2 in Chinnaswamy Stadium. Sidhu lauded ace Indian batter Virat Kohli for his wristwork and compared him to Az??haruddin and Zaheer Abbas after se?eing some of his top-class shots against LSG bowlers.

“What a good use of the wrist by Virat Kohli. I have seen only three batters using their wrist to perfection. Mohammad Azharuddin, Zaheer Abbas and Virat Kohli. Virat knows how to send the ball for a four using his wrist,” Sidhu said on Star Sports.

In the match against Lucknow, ??Virat scored 22 runs off 16 balls, but his knock was laced with some quality shots.

Sidhu demands quick debut of Mayank Yadav

While talking further on Star Sports, Sidhu urged that the selectors should not delay giving Mayank Yadav an international opportunity. He also gave the example of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), who handed debut caps to Wasim Akram and Inzamam Ul Haq ??during the 1992 World Cup a?nd eventually emerged victorious.

“I am not a selector, but this guy deserves to play for India. The decision-makers shouldn’t wait as he is in red-hot form with the ball. His pace, line, and length do not allow the batters to score runs. Mayank is putting the ball in the right areas, which a batter doesn’t like. Pakistan debuted Wasim Akram and Inzamam Ul Haq when they were raw and had hardly any experience. The two won the 1992 World Cup,” added Sidhu.

The Punjab-lad also remarked that fast bowler Mayank Yadav has proved his skills in the ongoing IPL, so now he doesn’t need anyone’s approval to play for India.

“A talent doesn’t need a stamp of approval. Mayank has done enough to play for the Indian team in the upcoming matches and the selectors should take his performance into account,” Sidhu concluded.

Former India cricketer Harbhajan Singh reacted angrily after a video clip of former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq‘s interview went viral on social media where he suggested that the Indian Sikh cricketer was close to converting to Islam.

Inzamam-ul-Haq’s controversial claims

In the video, Inzamam claimed that Harbhajan was among the Indian cricketers who used to attend preaching of Maulana Tariq Jameel, known for reading namaz with the Pakistan cricket team. During a tour, Inzamam stated that he invited Irfan Pathan, Zaheer Khan and Mohammad Kaif to join the prayers sessions, stating that Harbhajan, too, attended the preaching. Inzamam further suggested that the for?mer Indian spinner was influenced by the preaching and even expressed a? desire to convert.

“We had a room where prayers were conducted. Maulana Tariq Jameel used to visit us in the evening and lead us into a namaz. After a few days, Irfan Pathan, Mohammad Kaif, and Zaheer Khan also started coming.  I noticed that 2-3 more Indian players also used to join; they won’t say the prayers but used to listen to the Maulana,â€?Inzamam was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

“Harbhajan once told me, ‘my heart says that I should agree to whatever he (Maulana) says’. I said, ‘then follow him. What is stopping you?’ Then, he replied, ‘I see you and then I stop. Your life isn’t like that’. So, it is us who are not following our religion. We are to be blamed,” the former cricketer concluded.

“Yeh kon sa nasha pee kar baat kar raha hai ? I am a proud Indian and proud Sikh..yeh Bakwaas log kuch bi bakte hai (What was he drinking before speaking such nonsense? I am a proud Indian and a proud Sikh),” Harbhajan wrote.

Former Pakistan Inzamam-ul-Haq, who too??k up the crucial position of chief selector in August this year, has resigned from his post.

Reasons for Inzamam-ul-Haq leaving the chief selector post

As per the reports in Pakistan media, Inzamam cited the team’s underwhelming display in the ongoing ICC Men’s ODI World Cup and the leaking of captain Babar Azam’s private Whatsapp chat as t?wo of the primary reasons for his decision t?o step down.

Inzamam’s resignation will definitely raise questions about the direction and strategy of the Pakistan cricket team, with concerns being about the team’s ability to compete effectively at the international level.

During his tenures as chief selector in 2016, 2019 and 2023, Inzamam played a pivotal role in identifying and nurturing young talent and bringing fresh faces into the national squad. However, Pakistan’s recent performances have left fans and cricket enthusiasts disappointed, leading to speculation about potential changes in the team’s leadership and the coaching staff.

PCB will investigate the allegations in respect of conflict of interest

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is expected to initiate the process of finding a suitable replacement for the vital role of chief selector, with the aim of revitalizing the team a?nd enhancing its performance in the remaining World Cup.

Not only this, PCB has also set up a five-member fact-finding committee to investigate allegations in respect of conflict of interest reported in the media pertaining to the team selection process. The committee will ??submit its report and any recommendations to the PCB Management in an expeditious manner.
