India battled New Zealand in the second T20I of the three-match series at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Sunday (Ja??nuary 29).

New Zealand won the toss and elected to bat first, but the decision backfired on them as they struggled to score runs and managed to put up a mere 99 on the board for the loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs. Mitchell Santner fought hard for the Kiwis and contributed 19 runs to the team’s total. Meanwhile, Arshdeep Singh scalped two wickets for India, with Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal also picking up a wicket each.

The one wicket that Kuldeep took was of Daryl Mitchell, the Player of the Match in the previous game. It all happened on the last ball of the 10th over, when the left-arm chinaman bowled an absolute ripper of a turning delivery to Mitchell, which the latter failed to defend comp??letely and got clean bowled. After the dismissal, the New Zealand all-rounder was seen in shock following the sudden movement of the pitch while Indian teammates celebrated the wicket.

Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan expressed their joy by running up to Kuldeep and lauding the 28-y??ear-old over his phenomenal delivery.

Here’s the video:

In reply to New Zealand’s below-par total, India also struggled with the bat and failed to score quick runs. However, the Men in Blue chased down the set target with just one ball remaining courtesy of Suryakumar Yadav’s resilient 26 runs knock. Kishan (19) also contributed to the host’s six-wicket series-levelling victory. On the other hand, Michael Bracewell and Ish Sodhi scalped one wicket each for the visitors.

With India winning the second T20I, the next and fin??al scheduled match ??at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Wednesday ( February 01) will now be a series decider.

A flurry of happiness was sent among the New Zealand fans when their premier batter Ross Taylor flicked Indian pacer Mohammed Shami for a boundary at mid-wicket during the World Test Championship (WTC) final.

New Zealand won the summit clash by eight wickets and added a coveted International Cricket Council (ICC) trophy in their cabinet. Once the match was over, Black Caps skipper Kane Williamson humbly hugged Indian captain Virat Kohli.

The moment won more fans for the Kiwi leader as he showed empathy towards India’s loss in that particular instance.

Moreover, Kohli and Williamson have a long history of friendship, dating back to the U-19 World Cup 2008.

Talking about the same, Williamson shared that he has been friends with Kohli fo??r a long time, and it is quite special having a bond with people who have common interests.

“It was a great moment, you know, toe to toe, and obviously, Virat and I have known each other for a long time and we’re mates. And that’s always a great part of the sport as well that over the years you get the opportunity to meet people all around the world, form these different friendships through these different experiences you have had either together or against each other and often find a bit of common ground and share a few common interests and that’s quite special,” Williamson told India Today in an interview.

The Tauranga-born further added that the way India carried ??themselves even after ending second was the reason for them being the ambassador??s of the game.

“I’m sure that’s something the public can relate to, in India and around the world. Coming off second in this one and, you know, the way they hold themselves as the ambassadors of the game is, I think, an equally special thing to the talents that they bring,” Williamson concluded.

Meanwhile, New Zealand repatriated back to their country and are treating the WTC mace with reverence by giving ni??cknames to it.

New Zealand pacer Tim Southee took five wickets in the recently concluded World Test Championship (WTC) final against India. The Black Caps won the summit clash by eight wickets.

Southee proved useful for his side, especially during the second innings where he removed Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah. He also had a good match with the bat in New Zealand’s first innings as he scored a crucial 30 runs to help his side reach a respectable total.

Southee is now auctioning the jersey he wore during the marquee event with autographs from the whole New ??Zealand squad.

The official Black Caps Twitter handle posted an image of the same and re??vealed that Southee is sel?ling the memorabilia in order to raise funds for an eight-year-old suffering from a rare form of cancer.

The patient – Hollie Beattie – was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer called neuroblastoma in 2018.

Southee even took to Instagram to post a snap of the T-shirt and divulged that all the proceeds fr??om the auction would go to the Beattie?? family.

“Hey guys, I am auctioning off one of my shirts from the @icc World Test Championship Final to support @hopeforhollie. All proceeds from the auction will go to the Beattie family,” Southee captioned his post.

The 32-year-old further added that he empathize with the family and is in awe of their strength and p??ositive attitude.

“My family first learnt about Hollie’s story a couple of years ago through the cricket community and I have always been struck by the Beattie family’s perseverance, strength and positive attitude.Since hearing that Hollie required more treatment, I have been trying to find a way to support in some small way,” he added.

The Whangarei-born urged his fan??s to contribute to his cause by placing a bid on the jersey.

“I am hopeful that this shirt can help contribute in someway to the Beattie family’s ongoing medical needs as Hollie continues to fight. As a parent my heart goes out to them as they battle on. Any bid big or small is greatly appreciated!” Southee concluded.

After India’s horrendous loss to New Zealand in the World Test Championship (WTC) final, Virat Kohli & Co. are currently on a three-week break. They would now assemble in London on July 14. The team would then travel to Nottingham, where Team India is scheduled to start their five-match Test ??series against England? from August 4.

Talking about the same, former Indian cricketer, Dilip Vengsarkar stated that a one-week interval for travelling in United Kingdom (UK) was enough.

“I don’t know how we approach this kind of an itinerary. Where you go for a holiday in between and then come back to play Test matches. One week break was enough to post the WTC final. The thing is you need to play continuously. I am amazed this itinerary was approved,” Vengsarkar told PTI in an interview.

Kohli had opined that his team’s batters needed to show more intent during the summit clash. Taking cognizance of the same, Vengsarkar criticized the squad for not playing proper practice games for the commencement of the marquee event.

“If he [Kohli] is talking about intent, then why didn’t the team prepare properly for this match? Where was the intent then? They should have played at least two four-day games. You want to know whether the players are match fit or not by playing those games. The fast bowlers will know what lengths to hit straightway only in those practice games,” he added.

Many fans also reasoned that Kohli’s announcement of the playing XI a day before the match resulted in the opponents being well prepared for the encounter.

Concluding the parley, Vengsarkar asserted that it was the best team picked by the Indian captain and declaring it before didn’t make much difference since the side already had an idea about the playing conditions.

“You see, we had beaten Australia with a similar combination more or less. It was the best team they picked under the circumstances. Whether you announce it on the day of the game or day before it doesn’t make much difference. You have an idea about the conditions anyway,” the 65-year-old adumbrated.

New Zealand defeated India by ?eight wickets in the World Test Championsh?ip (WTC) final at Southampton’s Rose Bowl on Wednesday.

The contest was heading towards a draw when Virat Kohli & Co. faltered on the sixth day, making way for the Kiwis to chase a meagr?e 139.

New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson and middle-order batter Ross Taylor put up a formidable show to ??help their side cross the finish line.

Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra on his Youtube channel, evaluated the dismal perf?ormance by Indian cricketers and gave them r??atings.

Chopra started the assessment with the openers and proceeded in order of their batting line-up. The 43-year-old gave veteran cricketer Rohit Sharma 6 out of 10 and reasoned that the latter had faced the new ball in English conditions, which was one of the tou??ghest things to do.

Coming to youngster Shubman Gill, Chopra pointed out that?? the 21-year-old had assisted Rohit during the first innings but got out early in the next. Hence, Chopra gave Gill only four points out of 10.

“I will give Rohit 6/10. He got starts in both innings. I will say the glass is half full because Rohit saw off the new ball in both innings, the most difficult thing in SENA countries. Shubman Gill helped Rohit Sharma in the first innings but got out early in the second innings. Just 4/10,” stated Chopra.

The Agra-born then rated Cheteshwar Pujara and revealed that he’s disappointed with the latter’s performance. Chopra graded Pujara lowly by giving him only two rating points.

“His batting in both innings, you expect more runs from Cheteshwar. In this game, I am going 2/10,” Chopra enunciated.

Moving on, the cricketer-turned-commentator valued Kohli and his deputy Ajinkya Rahane at five points. The duo had built a sturdy partnership in the? first innings.

Chopra priced wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant at a score of five since he had made crucial 41?? runs in the second innin?gs while trying to do some recovery work.

The former Delhi cricketer gauged all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja’s performance with both bat and the ball and gave him only three points.

While Chopra gave off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin 6 points, he was particularly impressed with pacers Ishant Sharma and Mohammed Shami and classed them with six and seven points.

For Jasprit Bumrah’s poor show, Chopra gave him only three points.

Final report card of India’s playing XI during the WTC final by Aakash Chopra:

  • Rohit Sharma (6/10)
  • Shubman Gill (4/10)
  • Cheteshwar Pujara (2/10)
  • Virat Kohli (5/10)
  • Ajinkya Rahane (5/10)
  • Rishabh Pant (5/10)
  • Ravindra Jadeja (3/10)
  • Ravichandran Ashwin (6/10)
  • Ishant Sharma (6/10)
  • Mohammed Shami (7/10)
  • Jasprit Bumrah (3/10)

betvisa liveINDvsNZ – Cricket Times - betvisa888 //betvisa68.com/2021/06/heres-the-reason-why-new-zealand-nicknamed-the-test-mace-after-michael-mason/ Sat, 26 Jun 2021 12:16:48 +0000 //betvisa68.com/?p=57063

New Zealand comfortably defeated India by eight wickets in the Wo??rld Test Championship (WTC) fi?nal at Southampton on Wednesday.

It was after a long gap of 21 years that the Black Caps won an International Cricket Council (ICC) tournament. The last time the Kiwis won a title was in 2000 when they had defeated India in the ICC Knockout Trophy final.

Hence, it is no surprise that the New Zealand cricketers are treating the Mace with reverence as it was strapped on the flight’s seat during their repatriation back home. The Mace also received different nicknames in the process.

One such byname that has been doing rounds is that of Michael Mason.

Mason is a former New Zealand cricketer who represented his country in one Test match, 26 ODIs and three T20Is. The Carterton-born was also a part of the inaugural T20 World Cup 2007 squad.

New Zealand veteran pacer Trent Boult revealed the details of the new title giv??en to the Mace??.

“It’s had a couple of nicknames already. I feel like Michael Mason is sticking ?ex-New Zealand cricketer, right-arm seamer from the mighty Central Districts,” Boult was quoted as saying by stuff.co.nz.

Mason, who now works as an apprentice builder, was a little perplexed when 1 NEWS contacted him about the same.

“When you mentioned TV1 I wasn’t sure if someone was taking the mickey or if it was one of the boys at work,” Mason told 1 NEWS on Friday.

The 46-year-old pointed out that he was called ‘Mace’ by his teammates and hence the relation to the new addition in New Zealand’s memorabilia.

“My nickname all the time was pretty much Mace. I spent quite a bit of time with a few of the guys so maybe that’s where it’s come from,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, Boult adumbrated that Neil Wagner hasn’t let go off the Mace, and his contingent hopes to continue the celebrations once they reach home.

“Waggy [Neil Wagner] probably hasn’t let the Mace go since last night. The boys are ecstatic. There’s been a mixture of emotion and jubilation. Once we get home and through quarantine, we’ll hopefully continue the celebrations,” Boult enunciated.

New Zealand defeated India by e??ight wickets in the World Test Championship (WTC) final at Southampton on Wednesday.

Some experts reasoned India’s loss to the fall of their premier batsmen Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara – on the sixth day within ten deliveries.

India had to suffer another setback as their veteran bowler Ishant Sharma injured his fingers during the high-octa?ne clas?h, which required the application of multiple stitches.

A senior Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) official revealed the grim news while stating that the 32-year-old would recover before his side’s five-match red-ball series against the hosts that starts in August.

“Ishant has had multiple stitches on his middle and fourth finger in his right hand. However, it is not very serious. The stitches will be off in around 10 days and with six weeks left for the first Test against England, he is expected to recover in time,” a BCCI official was quoted as saying by News18.

The functionary further revealed that the squad had been given a 20-day break during which the players might travel across the United Kingdom (UK).

“The squad travelled together to London. From here they can all leave for their respective destinations within the UK for a 20-day break,” the official divulged.

The officeholder adumbrated that the Indian cricketers might go to see Wimbledon and Euro games if spectators are allowed.

“Some of them are tennis fans and if Wimbledon allows spectators, you might see them going for some of the show court matches. A few might be checking out if tickets for the Euro games at Wembley are available,” the same source concluded.

Meanwhile, Indian cricketers will assemble in London on July 14, following which they will travel to No??ttingham, where the first Test is scheduled to be played from August 4.
